NFL Free Picks: Week 2

Free Football Picks

So if Tom Brady does not get hurt, we are probably looking at a 3-1 record to start the season, however he did so we start out 2-2. Here’s a look at my free NFL picks for week 2.

New York Giants (-8.5, O/U 41.5) @ St. Louis Rams

Pick: New York Giants (-8.5) - The Rams are arguably the worse team in the NFL, getting blown out in week one, 38-3 against the Eagles. While the Giants, although not looking like Super bowl champions, but doing enough to beat the ‘Skins 16-7.  The Giants went 7-1 on the road in the regular season, plus another 3 wins in the playoffs to extend their record of 10 straight road wins in a season, and I like them to make it 11. Look for Brandon Jacobs to bowl over the feeble Rams defense.

Oakland Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5, O/U 36)

Pick: Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5) - Although I consider Damon Huard a mediocre Quarterback at best, you still have to like him better than Brodie Croyle.  The Chiefs hung in there for the whole game against the Pats, albeit without reigning league MVP Tom Brady, and were one play away from overtime.  The Raiders spent over 200 million dollars this off-season on “talent” but were embarrassed in their home opener 41-14 by a less than stellar Broncos team.  I expect the Chiefs to get it done at Arrowhead by a touchdown.

Buffalo Bills @ Jacksonville Jaguars (-5.5, O.U 37)

Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars (-5.5) - Buffalo looked great in their season opener, just smashing the Seahawks 34-10, while the Jags could do nothing on offense against a very stingy
Titans D.  So why am I picking the Jaguars?  Well, historically Jacksonville has been a much different team at home as opposed to the road, playing physical, smash-mouth football in their own house, and I look for this trend to continue.  Although the Bills are a young and up and coming team, I am not completely sold on them yet.  The Jags are expected to challenge for the AFC crown and I will be shocked if they start the season 0-2.  Jacksonville is 18-6 at home over the last 3 seasons.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys (-6.5, O/U 47)

Dallas Cowboys (-6.5) - The Cowboys looked mighty impressive in week 1, going on the road and just dismantling what many believe to be a solid Cleveland team. The Eagles also looked good in week 1, but it was at home to the aforementioned worse team in the league Rams.
Philly is banged up at receiver, with their top two pass catchers likely out for this game, Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis.  While Dallas got some great news as it looks like Marion Barber will be good to go on Monday Night.  I like the Cowboys by at least a touchdown in their last home opener at Texas Stadium.

Be sure to check back next week with my free football picks for week 3.  We love taking money from the bookie I hope you do to.

Last week: 2-2                            Season: 2-2

Overpriced Early Round Fantasy Football Ripoffs

August 27, 2008

Drafting these Fantasy football players early in your fantasy football league in 2008, will severely downgrade your chances of hoisting the trophy at the end of the season.  So be smart about every pick you have, and think how they may or may not help your fantasy football team.

Brandon JacobsBrandon Jacobs, RB, New York Giants:  Brandon Jacobs in 2007 was promoted to featured back in the Giants offense.  Well boy did he flop as a fantasy football runner, rushing for 26 yards in the season opener and then missing the next 3 games due to injury.  After returning from injury, he produced nicely as a fantasy back for 6 consecutive weeks.  But in weeks 12 and 13 he was sidelined due to hamstring problems.  In 2008 we would be cautions of picking Brandon Jacobs earlier then the first 3 rounds on any fantasy football team.  The New York Giants just give to many touches to different running backs.  Picking Brandon Jacobs early may result in your fantasy football team flopping early in the year.

Reggie Bush

Reggie Bush, RB, New Orleans Saints:  Reggie Bush not only had an opportunity to shine last year, but he had a chance to take sole reign as featured back on his New Orleans Saints team.  With Deuce McAllister going down in week 3 with a season ending knee injury.  This left the door wide open for Bush to show the world why he is the best running back in the NFL.  This didn't happen, Bush managed a measly 3.7 yards per carry and a total of 581 rushing yards adding 4 touchdowns.  Our recommendation is to leave Reggis Bush off your fantasy team, even as a third stringer we woul not select him.  Other then that, if you want to give him another shot because he is Reggie Bush, taking him as a third option on your fantasy football team may be well worth the shot.

Willie ParkerWillie Parker, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers:  It will be very difficult for Willie Parker to be the number 1 back this year, after getting injured in the second last game of last season and with the drafting of very talented running back Rashard Mendenhall out of Illinois.  Willie will have to prove he is still the featured back.  We think that with the addition of Mendenhall, Parker's fantasy status will fall a lot.  Less touches, less production will equal an overall decrease of fantasy points.  Don't be afraid, taking a chance with Willie Parker as a number one back is still a decent move.  But remember with Mendenhall right behind him, one mistake during the year Parker could easily fall to a second option back.

Roy WilliamsRoy Williams, WR, Detroit Lions:  In his first 4 seasons, all Roy Williams has accomplished is 1 1000 yard receiving season and has yet to score double digit touchdowns.  In Every fantasy football year Roy Williams seems to be drafted in the top 10 of wide receiver's, with the likes of Randy Moss and Chad Johnson, where still trying to figure out why? We know for a fact this year he's definitely staying of our list of wide receiver hopefuls.  With the passing offense of Mike Martz gone this year, the addition last year in the draft of Calvin Johnson and with the new coach and the run first offense.  You can be sure the Williams will again struggle to put up those fantasy points.  Roy Williams has all the talent in the world, just don't make him as your first option on any fantasy team.

So remember drafting these Fantasy Football Players will only hurt your team, be very cautions of your fantasy football selections and pick to win.

Favre a Jet…still a jerk

August 10, 2008

Good job Brett, you managed to do enough crying that the Packers finally gave in and shipped you out of town. The bad news is that you are now a member of the New York Jets. I hope you enjoyed the playoffs last year, because the Jets are not making it this year or next year.

The main reason why the Jets won’t make the playoffs is quite simple, they play in the same division as the New England Patriots, the AFC East. Therefore, they have no shot at winning the division. What about the wildcard you ask? Well let’s see. The AFC South has three playoff caliber teams that are better than the Jets, namely the Colts, the Jags and possibly the Titans. The AFC North also has two maybe three better teams than the Jets, the Steelers, the Browns and possibly the Bengals or Ravens depending on who has a better season. In the AFC West the Chargers are still the team to beat, with the only team having a real shot at the wild card being Denver.

So Brett, as you can see you will be playing on a very mediocre team and hoping to make the playoffs. I never thought that you would be the type to go and tarnish your legacy by playing for another team this late in your career. You have now joined the likes of Joe Montana, Joe Namath, and Franco Harris, all of whom left the teams who brought them glory only to fade away with strange jerseys on. I guess the whole world knows what a jerk you are; at least you still have John Madden to snuggle with at night.
