Reuters Title Fail: Gay & Dix (PIC)

Tyson Gay was back on the track for his first 200-meter race of the year, but was edged out by Olympic bronze medalist Walter Dix. That was what Reuters was trying to tell us. Unfortunately, this was what they came up with:

Perhaps they could have thought this one through a little more before deciding to go with a title about exhausted homosexuals surrendering to penis. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear someone got fired, or promoted, for this.

The Stat Line Of The Night – 08/20/09 – Usain Bolt

Total Pro Sports – We have been somewhat handcuffed in our stat line picks over the past couple of months, being left with little options other than baseball players. Today that will change because of the performance put on in Berlin at the World Track and Field Championships by Jamaica’s Usain Bolt.

He is the fastest man to ever grace this planet and yesterday he reminded us of just what kind of speed he has, blazing past the competition in the 200-meter men’s final to win the gold and set a new world record of 19.19 seconds. That is the second world record broken by Bolt at these championships as he did it in the 100-meter competition less than a week earlier. His outstanding performance was easily enough to run him into the record books and in the process, earn Usain “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Thursday, August 20th, 2009.

If there was ever any doubt regarding who the fastest man really is, it has surely diminished as Bolt has now shaved his previous marks in the 100 and 200 meter events, both by 0.11 seconds. Talk about consistency. It is amazing to watch this man’s long strides work almost effortlessly while those around him struggle to even keep up. Bolt has taken the athletic world by storm and there may be no stopping him anytime soon.

Usain Bolt Breaks 200-Meter World Record At World Championships

Total Pro Sports – Less than one week after breaking the 100-meter world record, Usain Bolt was at it once again on the Berlin race track. This time he set a new world record in the 200-meter event, running it in an incredible 19.19 seconds (0.11 seconds faster than his previous WR).

Although he did not win by the same margin as female 800-meter world champion Caster Semenya, he was able to cruise to victory over the final 20 meters, even taking a moment to look up at the stadium clock. It was an amazing display put on by the world’s fastest man.

With each race he runs, Bolt continues to cement his legacy as perhaps the greatest sprinter to ever grace a race track. He not only defeats his opponents, but he does so with ease in both the 100 and 200 meter distances. The Olympics are three years away, but if Bolt and American Swimmer Michael Phelps can keep their form, we may be in for another set of outstanding record-breaking performances in London for the 2012 games.
