Beltre would go on to record two more home runs during the Rangers’ 4-3 series-clinching victory. As for the cameraman, he would find a way to stay on his feet and keep up with Beltre during his following two home run trots.

Here is a look at the incident.

The Rays would out-hit the Rangers, 7-6, but three of the Rangers six hits were solo homers, courtesy of Beltre. After hitting 32 home runs during the regular season, Beltre recorded his first three of the post-season and they would be the difference, as the Rangers held on for the 4-3 victory and the 3-1 series win.

The Rangers will now have plenty of time to rest their pitchers prior to the ALCS, and they have Beltre’s hot bat to thank. He earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, October 4, 2011.

Here is your weekly fantasy update, as the Detroit Tigers have clinched the American League Central division, and the Red Sox try to lock up the wild card spot with the Rays right on their heels.

Fantasy Stud of the Week – Adrian Beltre, 3B, Rangers

A huge off-season pickup for the Rangers, Beltre has had a great year, aside from the time he has spent injured. Beltre had another great week at the plate, going 11-24 (.458 AVG) with a monstrous 5 home runs and 8 RBIs. The Rangers third-baseman also hit 2 doubles and scored 6 runs, while only striking out twice.
(Honourable mention: B.J. Upton, CF, Rays .444 AVG, 10 R, 7 RBI)

Fantasy Dud of the Week – Casey McGehee, 3B, Brewers

The big third baseman had a terrible week to match his poor season, going 1-16 (.063 AVG) with 1 RBI, no walks, and 4 strikeouts. He also managed to ground into a double play, to put the icing on the cake. It’s going to take a huge amount of improvement for McGehee next season if he wants to continue being a lock for third base in Milwaukee.
(Dishonourable mention: Shane Victorino, CF, Phillies, .080 AVG, 1 RBI, 5 K)

Rookie to watch – Joe Benson, OF, Twins

The September call-up had a fantastic week, in which he managed to hit 5 doubles and a triple. He was 9-18 (.500 AVG), and he scored three runs. While the Twins aren’t playing for anything but development this late in September, it is nice to see some of their younger players succeeding at the major-league level after the team’s injury ridden and terrible season.

Waiver Wire Player of the Week – Mark Ellis, 2B, Rockies

The long-time Athletic had some success this week on his new team, going 9-21 (.429 AVG). Ellis didn’t display very much power, having only one extra base hit, but he managed to score 4 runs and drive in 3. He also stole two bases while hitting a home run. Ellis is only 3.1% owned in ESPN leagues so he should be an easy pickup.

Pierzynski was called into action in order to save former President George W. Bush from a fly ball.

Bush was seated in the owner’s box, which is located in the first row behind home plate, when a foul ball off the bat of Adrian Beltre was headed directly at him. Pierzynski rushed to the scene in an attempt to record an out and save the former President in the process. Bush did manage to avoid being hit by the ball, but Pierzynski couldn’t come up with the souvenir for the 43rd President of the United States.

The two exchanged words immediately after, with Bush likely asking Pierzynski if he would be interested in taking a security job in the off-season. Here is a look at how it all unfolded last night in Arlington.

Perhaps Major League Baseball should make jockstraps mandatory. I know one guy who would likely be in favor of such a decision, and his name is Carl Crawford.

During last night’s game between the Rays and the Orioles, Crawford found himself on first base, but would not be there for long thanks to a Jake Arrieta pick-off attempt, that didn’t get him an out, but did manage to pick something off. Unfortunately for Crawford, that something would be his right testicle.

Crawford would leave the game after this play. Whether he will end up on the DL with a torn testicle, like Adrian Beltre one year ago, remains to be seen.

From shoulder injuries, to concussions, all the way to the dreaded Tommy John surgery for pitchers. Adrian Beltre of the Mariners suffered quite the embarrassing injury the other night. While playing 3rd base, a ground ball hit by the White Sox Alexei Ramirez hit Beltre in the groin. Usually this isn’t much of a problem, as once the sting subsides the player is usually okay. Unfortunately for Beltre he is one of the few players that does not wear a protective cup, and is now feeling the repercussions. According to the injury report, Beltre suffered a severely contused right testicle. I’m no doctor but I personally wouldn’t want my testicle to be described as “contused”.

The manager for the Mariners has said that Beltre may need surgery to subdue the bleeding in his testicle. What is even more amazing is Beltre did not leave the game after his injury and actually singled in the 14th, and would eventually score the winning run in the game. Look for Beltre to be out for atleast 3 weeks.

Beltre has stated he has never worn a cup in his career, even in the minor leauges. Of his cup wearing antics, he said,

“I tried it when I first signed, I tried it a couple of times,” he said. “It was uncomfortable and I didn’t like it at all. And I never wore it. I wore it once to try it and I didn’t like it. It was so uncomfortable. I made a play and dove and it hurt more when you had the cup on than without it. I never liked it. It felt uncomfortable and I never used it.”

Here’s a suggestion for Beltre. Either wear the cup, or be a little bit more careful about your jewels.

Beltre Unsure He’ll Wear Cup – [FanHouse]
It was not so long ago that this time of year meant the beginning of a new season, the reporting of pitchers and catchers to their respective camps. Baseball has been part of the fabric of American tradition for over a century. Now we are faced with a new story in baseball, one that never seems to end. For the first time ever the phrase ” there is no such thing as bad publicity” has been proven wrong.

If you are unaware of what has been going on with Alex Rodriguez the last few weeks, you must be living under a rock (tell cousin slug I said hi). Here is a quick recap. A-Rod was exposed as a steroid user by Selena Roberts of Sports Illustrated. He then grants an interview with ESPN’s Peter Gammons, in which he admitted using steroids from ‘ 01-’03, his years with the Texas Rangers. Many people were dissatisfied with the interview, poking holes in A-Rods story. Rodriguez then holds a massive press conference upon his arrival to spring training. A few more details (the cousin), but pretty much more of the same. The public and the media having a field day ripping Alex apart,as he attempts to excuse all his actions by either saying he was ” young and stupid “, or that he didn’t think that they even used the steroids properly. You want to know something ? Personally, I couldn’t give a flying (insert your own word here!)

The thing is this, I don’t think I am the only one. I want to get to the business of baseball. I love the game and I really am tired of hearing all this garbage. Can we get to the part where we debate about who has the best pitching staff, or who is going to have a break out year ? No. This truly is the NEVERENDING STORY.
I keep hearing how the steroid guys have cheated the game, how they have tarnished the record books, how they have set a poor example for young athletes. You know what? Stop ! If you are that disgusted with this era, then boycott the game! Don’t go to the park, don’t watch it on T. V. and stop buying merchandise. No one is forcing you to participate. Sound extreme? I suppose but the point is I won’t, I love the game I love my Mets, I am a little saddened that all these players felt the need to put poison in their bodies, but who am I to judge? The fan does have some power here, it’s like I said you can boycott the game, but I can’t. I tell all of you this because as disgusted as you may be, it’s not going to go away anytime soon.

Yesterday it was reported that A-Rod has been linked to Angel Persinal. Persinal is a trainer from the Dominican Republic, who has been banned by MLB because he is a suspected steroid guy. Rodriguez was linked with this guy as late as 2007. What does that mean for A-Rod? I don’t know, but it certainly makes it hard to take him at his word about being clean since he has been in New York. It doesn’t end with A-Rod either. Persinal has been linked with other players: Juan Gonzalez, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Vladimir Guerrero, Bartolo Colon, Miguel Tejada, Adrian Beltre, Moises Alou, Jose Guillen, Ervin Santana, Ruben Sierra, Francisco Cordero, Jose Mesa and Juan Guzman, among others. Now this doesn’t mean that the players listed above are roid users, but you know it’s going to cause much speculation.

I do not condone steroid use. I feel badly for the fan who feel they have cheated. All I am saying is this; the steroid era is far from over. There is a lot more to come, and I am afraid some of the names you are going to hear are going to be guys you would not have ever suspected. I for one am done, I really don’t care what they do anymore, I am a fan of the game, and nothing is ever going to stop that.
