Whether it is Canadians, Socialism, sports journalists, or all of the above, UFC middleweight fighter Chael Sonnen seemed to have some sort of beef with someone, or something, when he took part in an interview with Michael Landsberg for a Canadian sports show called Off The Record.

Sonnen, who is expected to face UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for the title next year, stated in October that he would put his UFC career on the line if Silva agreed to do the same with his career as a middleweight fighter. However, Sonnen stated that the offer had “expired” in an interview one week later.

When asked by Landsberg why he “backed down” from the original offer, Sonnen immediately took aim at the host:

“You might want to take the base out of your tone, I’m not sure you know who you’re talking to here, but I’ve never backed down from anything, so check your facts,” Sonnen said.

Landsberg attempted to clarify his question, but it didn’t seem to help:

“What are you talking about?,” asked Sonnen. “What is this, your first day on the job? You’re mixing five different stories here. This is like doing amateur hour or something. What show am I on here? Is this for public radio?”

After going back and forth, Sonnen fired some shots at Landsberg’s home country of Canada, saying “in (America), that created business, offers expire…(Canadians) probably don’t do that in socialism, but in America, in a capitalistic society, that’s how things work.”

Sonnen also took the opportunity to poke fun at Canadian fighter and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, calling him “Grease St-Pierre,” before eventually taking off his microphone and walking out on the interview in disgust.

Sure, Landsberg can be awfully annoying at times, but Sonnen’s crankiness towards Canada has me thinking that someone probably spit in his poutine prior to this interview. Here it is.

So who does Silva owe a special thank you to? None other than Steven Seagal, who says the kick that was responsible for knocking out Vitor Belfort in the first round was “just something that (he) created.” Seagal claimed to have learned the kick 30 to 40 years ago in Japan and has been perfecting it ever since.

Seems like Silva, whom Seagal believed had the proper athletic ability to perform the maneuver, didn’t require quite as much time to perfect it himself.

Here is Seagal’s post-fight interview where he talks about the kick.

Rumors are flying that this devastating kick was taught to Silva by Steven Seagal. (SBNation)

Early on in his UFC middleweight championship bout against Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen got caught attempting to land a roundhouse kick to the leg of his opponent. Thankfully he was able to quickly counter with a barrel roll escape.

It is just too bad he couldn’t figure out the buttons to help him escape from a triangle choke with 2 minutes remaining in the final round of a fight he appeared to be in control of. Looks like it is back to the instruction manual for Sonnen.

Breaking News: Oregon Ducks RB LeGarrette Blount has been suspended for the season.

Total Pro Sports (By Adam Best “FanSided“) – Two great teams from the Pacific Northwest squared off tonight during the onset of yet another college football season. Boise State beat Oregon on their home blue turf, 19-8. But that’s not what you’re going to hear about. What you’re going to hear about is the time typically reserved for post-game handshakes and sportsmanship.

Boise State defensive end Byron Hout started taunting Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount after the game. Little did he know, Blount is a walking time-bomb, one that can go off at any minute. His coach even suspended him earlier this summer for behavioral issues. A Boise State coach tried to stop Hout from talking smack, but it was already too late. Blount absolutely leveled him with a jab that would have made UFC Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva proud.

Blount wasn’t done, though. Far from it, actually. He then went after his teammate before being restrained. Next, he channeled his inner Ron Artest and damn near charged into the stands, that is until an Oregon coach was barely able to pull him back. Finally, it took a brigade of Ducks to escort him back to the locker room, as Blount was still completely out of control. I think it’s safe to assume that we won’t be seeing Blount on a football field anytime soon.

Check out the video for yourselves… And Let us know in the comments Should or Shouldn’t LeGarrette Blount be suspended?

Total Pro Sports – WEC:42 was yet another great card put on by Zuffa, showcasing their lighter weight-classes. Headlining the card was consensus top 5 pound for pound fighter (GSP is still the Pound For Pond King), Miguel Torres facing off against an impressive up and comer by the name of Brian Bowles in a bantamweight title fight. Coming into this fight Torres was considered by many to be the cream of the crop in the 135 pound division, so much so that talks of a move up in weight to entertain super-fights with Urijah Faber and Mike Brown were being suggested.

It seems no one told Brian Bowles about this as the scrappy wrestler came out in stunning fashion to earn the winner over the heavily favoured Torres. About half way into the first round Bowles scores with a take down and is able to do some damage from the top. The fight is eventually stood up and after Torres catches Bowles with a crisp one, two combo. Bowles back peddles in retreat but manages to catch Torres and then the rest is just classic ground and pound. Reminds me how Anderson Silva caught Forrest Griffin for the KO during UFC 101.

This ended an absolute terror of a streak put on by Torres, not having lost in well over 5 years. Bowles is also the first fighter to ever KO or TKO Torres, and it really marks the first time that Torres has ever really been in trouble in the WEC during any fight.

Bowles is no pushover in his own right having finished all his fights in the WEC, and was the consensus number 2 bantamweight in the world heading into the fight. But you can’t understate just how much of an underdog he was, because of how good Torres looks amongst his peers. Miguel Torres will be back, and given his unbelievable run it isn’t out of the question for him to get an immediate rematch.

The much anticipated fight that many thought would provide Silva with his toughest test yet turned out to be the complete opposite. “The Spider” used the first minute to feel Forrest out, then took over the fight, landing a couple of significant shots. Seemingly playing with Griffin, Silva connected with his shots while dodging anything that came his way. It would eventually become too much for Forrest and after getting clipped in the face with a jab which knocked him to the ground, he would wave his arms signaling the end of his night.

Joe Rogan would go on to say “I love Forrest Griffin, but this is one of the most embarrassing knockouts I think we’ve ever seen.” Forrest may have felt the same way as he exited the ring immidiately after and ran for teh dressing room. It may not be a Yahir Reyes spinning backfist, a Marcus Aurelio Capoeira kick, or even a Dan Henderson overhand right, but I guess even Silva’s jabs have incredible knockout power.

This fight helped further illustrate why Silva should be considered the best pound for pound fighter in MMA. So who is next? It may be hard for find fights for Anderson should he continue to run right through his opponents like this. I can help but imagine the prospects of a Silva vs. Geroges St.Pierre battle. It may be far fetched, but if Rocky Balboa can come back and fight, than I guess anything is possible.

B.J. Penn vs. Ken Florian - Lightweight Championship Bout

Florian got his shot at the belt before and failed, but he will not want to let that opportunity slip away again. Ken is a different fighter this time around and he will want to prove that against Penn, who is widely considered the best lightweight fighter around.

Result: Florian by 4th round TKO

Anderson Silva vs. Forest Griffin

In this co-main event, Silva will test his strength in a higher weight class as he looks for some more competition. Griffin will give him a tough battle and it may take more than one of those devastating strikes to keep him down. He will also have to watch out for Forest’s submissions

Result: Silva by 2nd round KO

Johnny Hendricks vs. Amir Sadollah

Since winning The Ultimate Fighter Season 7, Sadollah has been plagued with ionjuries. He will finally be given the opportunity to step into the octagon for the first time under contract with the UFC. He will be ready to go, but the rust may be too much for him against Hendricks.

Result: Hendricks by 2nd round TKO

Kendall Grove Vs. Ricardo Almeida

Result: Grove by split decision.

Josh Neer vs. Kurt Pellegrino

Result: Pellegrino by unanimous decision.

Rich Franklin Vs. Wanderlei Silva- Catch weight 195lbs

I think that Franklin will have the upper hand in this fight thanks to coaching he received from UFC Middleweight Champion I think that this will give him the edge that he needs because Anderson and Wanderlei were long-time training partners.

Result: Franklin winner by 2nd KO.

Cheick Kongo Vs. Cain Velasquez – Heavyweight

Kongo has looked like a beast in has last couple of fights and Velasquez is undefeated. I don’t think this will be a long fight as Velasquez will look to end it early. Kongo took this fight on short notice because Heath Herring is injured and that should be the difference in this one.

Result: Velasquez 1st round KO.

Mike Swick Vs. Ben Saunders – Middleweight

Result: Swick 3rd round sumission.

Marcus Davis Vs. Dan Hardy – Middleweight

Result: Hardy decision.

Spencer Fisher Vs. Caol Uno – Welterweight

Result: Fisher submission.

Mirko Cro Cop Vs. Mostapha Al Turk – Heavyweight

Result: Cro Cop 1st round KO.

It features a decent enough main card with lots of Canadian fighters sprinkled in. Here is a look at how we think the fights will play out.

UFC Middleweight Champonship Bout
Anderson Silva (-600) vs. Thales Leites (+350)

Silva is riding an 8 fight winning streak inside the octagon with an astounding 4 title defences, finishing all of his previous 9 opponents. Leities is also on an impressive 5 fight win streak and should be a game challenger to “The Spider”. Silva should have a distinct advantage in the stand up and clinch, and should he keep this fight standing it should be good showing for Silva. If the fight hits the ground, the roles should be reversed as Leites is a very accomplished black belt in BJJ.

Silva in his own right is a very skilled ground fighter, but if Leities gets this to the ground he has a chance. With that said, I’m going to have to go with a gut feeling here and take Leities and his iron chin. I look for him to take this fight to the ground and do damage much like Gonzaga vs. Cro Cop but eventually catch a submission. Even the best strikers lose a bit after being pounded on. Leities by submission round 2.

Chuck Liddell (-200) vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (+150)
Stylistically, this should be a great match up for Liddell. Shogun is an aggressive striker that likes to get in your face. Liddell on the other hand does his best work while backpedaling and counter punching. This is definitely a must win for both fighters as they are a combined 2-2 in there last 2 fights. This is a match up that has come about 2 years too late but this should still be a very exciting fight. I think Liddell should control the first round with his striking, but i look for Shogun to get this fight to the ground somehow and submit Liddell. I know Chuck hasn’t been submitted in forever, but Shogun is pretty slick on the ground and is need of one of those great performances he had in PRIDE. Shogun by submission round 2.

Krzysztof Soszynski (-155) vs. Brian Stann (+115)
No idea why this fight is on the main card instead of Herman vs. Louiseau but this is a pretty even fight that can go either way. I think Soszynski’s a bit crisper of a striker so ill take him. Soszyski by TKO.

Luiz Cane (-250) vs. Steve Cantwell (+185)
My favourite pick of the night here. Cane is a beast of a man and should be a lock here. Cantwell will have no answer for Cane’s wicked Muay Thai. Cane by TKO round 1.
