Allen Iverson

We all remember his infamous “practice? we talkin’ about practice?” tirade in his younger days in Philly.  Don’t worry, he didn’t let us down in the press conference he held in his return to the 6ers.  Iverson has always had a huge heart and he has always worn it on his sleeve.  Works for us.  As he started talking about his transgressions in his younger years (I think he was trying to explain why teams were reluctant to sign him), he broke down in tears.  It’s always fun to see a normally tough hard guy fall apart like that.  If he could just blame his teammates’ fat little girlfriends for a loss, that would be the ultimate moment.

Will AI’s return to Philly mark a resurgence in his career and the 6ers season?  That I can’t tell you, though my guess is he will be good for about 15 points a game and maybe a few wins here or there.  Also he’s playing next to a much more mature and talented Andre Iguodala, so that could help a lot.  What I do know is this, the return of the wacky Iverson press conference looks to be as fun as it ever was.

Andre Iguodala

He has an entirely different trick here, and considering his field goal percentage from outside 10 feet, its a miracle to see it go in.  Generally I’m more for trick plays during the course of a game, like that Pee Wee football one.  Anyways, he starts out by walking to the far wall of the gym.  Then he whips the ball underhand against the wall and it bounces over his head and right into the basket.

As most trick shots out there on the internet go, I would have to assume this one is real.  Why would Iggy go to the trouble of making a random Youtube video of a fake trick shot that he could probably hit anyways.  And why isn’t he in the gym practicing free throws or three-pointers?  The kid shoots 74% and 30% respectively.

Also I’ve seen a few variations of this shot out on web before, but what seems to set this apart is that Iggy’s back is completely to the basket and it doesn’t seem like he is really looking to much before he goes to take the shot.  Impressive.  Too bad its not the kind of play that can be used in a game like Devin Harris’s wild halfcourt winner.

We may have taken that a bit too far, but Nike gave the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise player a shot at the mic in their new commercial (which also features Andre Iguodala and Mo Williams), and he nailed it.  I think this whole production may even be above Shaq quality.

Durant plays “Velvet Rope” who, as he puts it, “makes a D freeze, bring the punks to their knees.”  Lyrical genius?  I’d say so.  And when you are averaging 25.3 points per game and 6.5 rebounds in your sophomore season, you have the right to say such things.

“Now get the hell out of my garage, unless you’re fixin’ my car.”  That’s just classic.

Iguodala and Williams also get their their turn at the mic and while their rapping was good, it was their wardrobe that stole the show.  Iggy’s mohawk was sweet, but what can we say about the Mo Williams jheri curl.  Best part of the video?  When he takes the hairspray out on the court (1:30 mark).

That seems to be the case for Hugh Hefner as a simple “Kobe or LeBron” question turned out to be a difficult one for the founder of Playboy Magazine.  JerseyChaser.com was on hand at the Playboy Mansion’s SportsDream Celebrity Poker Party asking athletes, celebrities and Playboy models who they thought was better, Lebron James or Kobe Bryant.  It seemed to be a split decision after asking the likes of Andre Iguodala, Tyson Chandler, Chad Ochocinco and Warren Moon, but the real shocker came when Hef and his ladies were asked about their opinion.

After Hugh Hefner and one of his girlfriends chose Kobe, the other two ladies went with LeBron.  That was when the first girlfriend stated “I don’t know who LeBron is,” and Hef’s reply was the following:

“I don’t either.  That’s what a sports fan I am.”

We can’t blame you Hef.  With ladies like that around all day, who need sports in their life.  Just don’t tell Kendra Wilkinson that.  Maybe he can catch the LeBron video on TMZ tonight to get a little more familiar.

The player of the game was Philadelphia 76ers forward/guard Andre Iguodala who poured in 20 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and hit the last second shot to win the game for the Sixers.  Ultimately making him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Sunday April 19th, 2009.

Andre Iguodala waited for the clock to tick down, took a few dribbles to his right and let go a high-arching jumper. Swish! The Magic were stunned, their fans silenced.

For the Philadelphia 76ers, it was the sweet sound of stealing home-court advantage.

Iguodala made a 22-foot jumper with 2.2 seconds remaining, and the Sixers rallied from an 18-point deficit to beat Orlando 100-98 in Game 1 of their opening-round playoff series Sunday.

He then stood at halfcourt waving his hands as teammates joined him to celebrate.

“We won one more game than people thought we would win,” Iguodala said. “I was pretty amped up.”

Iguodala nails winner, 76ers stun third-seeded Magic – [SportsLine]

The 76ers were led by Andre Iguodalawho had 20 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist, but that wasn’t the story of the night.  6’6″ Iguodala made headlines last night for his alley-oop dunk over Rockets 7’6″ center Yao Ming.  This dunk has nothing on the high school Double Alley-Oop dunk from last week but still is amazing as Iguodala is a foot shorter then Yao.

This is not the first time a player noticably shorter has dunked over a 7 foot monster.  Back in the Olympics a few years ago Vince Carter dunked over Team France’s center.
