Most people believed it would be Cam Newton leading the charge for Auburn last night during their BCS National Championship Game against Oregon, and while this season’s Heisman Award winner was solid throughout his team’s 22-19 victory, it was a future Heisman candidate that stole the show down the stretch.

Heading into last night, freshman Michael Dyer had carried the ball over 20 times in a game only twice all season, but with the game tight down the stretch the Tigers went to him time and time again, and he responded with 143 yards on 22 carries. What makes those numbers even more impressive is the fact that 57 of those yards came on the final drive that set Auburn up for the game winning field goal with no time left on the clock.

After Oregon scored a touchdown and two-point conversion to tie the game at 19-19 with 2:33 left in regulation, Auburn began at their own 25-yard line and quickly went to work. The drive started with a 15-yard pass from Newton to Emory Blake. That play was followed up by a remarkable 37-yard run by Dyer, who appeared to be tackled after a short gain but alertly got to his feet and sprinted down the field, taking advantage of a confused Oregon defense. Two plays later Dyer took the ball down to the Oregon 1-yard line, and the rest is history. It was a final drive that he will surely remember for some time, as it gave Auburn their first National Championship since 1957 and earned himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, January 10, 2011.

During last night’s BCS National Championship Game, Oklahoma’s 3rd play from scrimmage Sam Bradford tried to hit wide receiver Manny Johnson on the sideline. The pass was almost perfect by Bradford, but reached Manny Johnson the same time that Florida Gators Safety Major Wright came in for the hit.

Major Wright absolutely decapitates Manny Johnson and for a minute there I thought he may be dead. But Johnson jumps back to his feet as nothing happened.

You can bet Manny Johnson learned his lesson and will keep his head up from now on.

Watch the video of the Major Wright’s hit here.

Florida Gators vs Oklahoma Sooners

2009 FedEx BCS National Championship Game Preview

This matchup has everything that a fan dreams of watching in a 2009 FedEx BCS National Championship Game. The Oklahoma Sooners feature the nations most prolific offense ever, setting records in touchdowns (97) and points (702) this season. They have multiple threats at the wide receiver position and a Heisman winning quarterback Sam Bradford that gets the ball down the field quickly and efficiently. Sam Bradford has been the nations best passer this season, leading the country with a passing efficiency of 186.3.

The Sooners can also run the ball well, they have two backs that gained more than 1000 yards on the ground this year, however, DeMarco Murray will miss the game due to a ruptured hamstring. That means there will be alot of pressure on Chris Brown, the junior back had 1110 yards and 20 touchdowns, numbers that the Gators will surely be prepared for.

The Florida Gators have been the nations most consistent team this season, beating up on opponents with their only loss coming to the Ole Miss Rebels in the swamp. That loss is well behind the Gators, after their impressive win in the SEC title game against then No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide, they assured themselves a spot in the Championship Game.

TIm Tebow was sensational in that game and has been all season, his leadership qualities is evident in the players around him, his teammates elevate their game to another level when he is under center. The Gators will need Tebow to be at his best as they contend with an offense that has not been contained all season.

The x-factor in this game will be the Gators defense, a unit which creates turnovers which lead to scores will need to make some plays in order to get Sam Bradford off his game. The key will be pressure up front, if the Gators can create a pass rush that gets Sam moving from right to left and unable to plant when he throws, the deep ball will be less effective.

The game will be played at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida, the Gators should have the edge in fan support. The Florida fans will be glad to have Percy Harvin back in the lineup, the double threat running back missed the SEC title game with a sprained ankle but should be 100% healthy for this game.

2009 FedEx BCS National Championship Game Prediction

Both offenses are explosive, but they do it in different ways. The Gators use the Urban Meyer system, a method of offense that worked so well at the University of Utah, has carried over well with the Florida Gators.

The centerpiece of the Gators offense revolves around the quarterback as he makes decisions on every play. The Sooners move the ball down the field in big chunks, they are constantly searching out the deep ball, with their organized, no-huddle offense they keep the pressure on the opposing defense.

The difference in this bowl game like most of the bowl games will be defense, whichever defense can contain the opposition best should win the game.

Total Pro Sports – The Oklahoma Sooners coach Bob Stoops will receive a $3 million bonus for coaching the Sooners for 10 consecutive years. Bob Stoops replaced John Blake back in 1998. The Oklahoma Sooner will go on to face the Florida Gators in this years BCS National Championship Game.

This topic always creates a discussion every time a team or coach receives some kind of sponsorship or bonus. If the NCAA will allow bonuses for coaches, then we think players should be compensated as well. We can not justify the fact that all these college football teams are making millions upon millions of dollars from TV deals, sponsorships and stadium revenue.

Yes, the players should be grateful for their full scholarships at schools with such high notoriety like Florida and Oklahoma. But If their were no players then their would be no team and no revenue for the schools. People forget that these college football games attract more fans then most NFL games.

While attending the Florida Gators and South Carolina game in Gainesville this year, the Gators attracted more the 90,000 fans. That Sunday we attended the Jaguars game in Jacksonville and that game attracted just over 65,000 fans. That’s 25,000 more fans then an NFL game, which equals more revenue and more money for the University Of Florida.

Something has to be changed and athletes should be compensated. Were not saying to pay them millions of dollars like the NFL. But along with the full ride, room and board, and food a weekly allowance should also be included so they can live a normal life like people who are not in the spotlight.

Do you remember earlier on in the year when Ohio State Buckeyes Nathan Williams was caught for shoplifting? Maybe this wouldn’t happen if he received a weekly allowance or small salary from his team. This is what happens when your broke and have no money.

Do you possibly think Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford could work at McDonalds to earn some extra money while in school?
