Entering last night with points in three straight games, Jokinen wasted little time extending his point streak to four games, as he opened the scoring in the first period. We would add a goal and an assist in the second, and with the game tied 3-3 late in the third, it was Jokinen coming to the rescue once again, as he completed the hat-trick and gave the Flames the 4-3 lead. They would hold on from their, as Jokinen’s four-point performance helped Flames’ goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff earn his 300th career victory, while earning himself “The Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, February 8, 2012.

You can check out the hit and the ensuing fight in the video below.

The San Jose Sharks may have delivered a knockout blow to the Calgary Flames playoff hopes after handing them a 6-3 loss last night at the HP Pavilion, and the Sharks’ Ryan Clowe almost did the same to the Flames Cory Sarich during their third period fight last night.

After watching teammate Logan Couture get drilled in the corner by Sarich, Clowe stepped in to send a message to the Flames defenseman. I am pretty sure Sarich got that message, in the form of several punches to the face. I’ll give him credit, however, for standing in there and taking his punishment during our “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night” for Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

With the Flames on the powerplay, Alex Tanguay delivered a perfect cross-ice pass to Iginla, who appeared to beat Quick, but somehow couldn’t get the puck past the thin air that was situated in the Kings’ goal crease.

The commentator’s initial claim was that Quick had made the save, but replays show the puck beating him cleanly through the legs. However, as it headed straight for the net, it took an awkward bounce and detoured to the left, leaving the game scoreless.

So was this just an awkward bounce, or do we have a case of paranormal activity going on in the goal crease at the Staples Center? I know one man who can find the answer to such a question. Where is Ian Cashmore when you need him?

While the scoreboard makes it appear as though the Coyotes were the dominant team in this game, that was far from the case. Instead, they were forced to rely heavily on the stellar play of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, who stopped each of the 39 shots he faced for his sixth shutout of the season.

With the win, the Coyotes improve their record to 3-0 against the Flames this season, and they have also moved ahead of them in the Western Conference standings as a result of having one fewer game played. These two teams will hook up once more on March 15th, giving the Flames a few days to figure out a way to beat Bryzgalov. They couldn’t do so last night, and as a result, the Coyotes netminder earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, March 10, 2011.

Janssen may have won this bout, but it was his team who was taking the beating on the scoreboard, as they fell to the Flames by a score of 6-0. I guess if you are going to lose the game, you may as well try to win the war.

Before you begin to believe that Carey Price is as creepy as the mask he was wearing during yesterday’s NHL Heritage Classic, we should inform you that the design by artist David Arrigo, which featured the look of an old-school goalie mask with eyes on the top and a mouth on the bottom, was a tribute to legendary Canadiens’ goaltender Jacques Plante.

Unfortunately, Price couldn’t pull off some of that Jacques Plante magic, as his Canadiens fell to the Calgary Flames by a score of 4-0. I guess his mask was doing a better job of scaring away his own teammates from playing defense, rather than scaring away pucks and members of the opposition.

Hat Tip – [Puck Daddy]

During a second intermission performance by Metric, one fan’s over-exuberance became another fan’s golden opportunity. With his friend’s arms raised in the air as he soaked in some facetime on the jumbotron (and CBC), the opening was there to deliver an epic nut-shot on national television, and he did just that.

Does a nut-shot become more or less painful when it is endured outdoors at -8° Celsius? I know one man who can provide us with that answer.

They’re back!

It has been quite a while since we last seen the Vancouver Canucks’ Green Guys tossing waffles into the air as the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Tim Brent served a 2-minute goaltender interference penalty. On Saturday night during CBC’s Hockey Day In Canada, they made their triumphant return, this time breaking the indoor smoking rules at Rogers Arena as they puffed on their pipes while the Calgary Flames’ Steve Staios sat in the box.

This is just about as sophisticated a look as you can expect from two dudes in green spandex suits, leaving us wondering whether we should change their names from “the Green Guys” to “the Green Gentlemen.”

As for the video below, we are not quite certain why it appears inverted, but you get the picture.
