The Minnesota Wild couldn’t slow down Jarome Iginla during last night’s game at the Saddledome, as the Flames captain scored the game-winning goal and added an assist during Calgary’s 2-1 victory. As for one female reporter who had a rather interesting question for Iginla following the game, she was able to stop the powerful winger right in his tracks.

With Iginla fielding questions at his locker following a solid performance on the ice, he was confronted with the following question:

“Setting up the play.”

Did you notice how I didn’t even put a question mark following that statement? That’s because it clearly isn’t a question! I know that and Jarome does too. But even after giving the reporter a few opportunities to correct herself, she was unable to do so, causing Iginla to break out the following confession:

“Ya, no. Sorry, I’m not sure what you mean.”

I’m going to have to agree with Jarome on this one. I’m not sure what she means either. And if fielding such a question wasn’t already tough enough, Iginla was somehow able to do so without breaking out into hysterical laughter and/or punching someone.

Check it out.

Female mixed martial artist Kim Couture shouldn’t have been allowed to take part in her bout with Sheila Bird in Calgary on Friday due to an indefinite medical suspension. However, a mix-up by the Calgary Combative Sports Commission and their failure to review the MMA database allowed Couture to take part in the fight, and the results were not pretty. Some of that had to do with the fact that Couture was simply over-match, but it certainly didn’t help that there was an equally unqualified referee officiating the bout.

After taking several hard punches and elbows while on the ground in the first round, Couture found herself trapped in a rare scissor lock. A few seconds later, she was unconscious, as her right leg could be seen flopping to the ground. A few second later, her left leg followed suit, collapsing to the ground. Still no stoppage. Not until he lifted her arm a few seconds later did the referee in charge realize that Couture was unconscious. At that point the fight was finally stopped and Bird was awarded the victory.

The official results read Bird by technical submission at 1:48 of the first round, but a look at the video below will show that the real time should be somewhere around 1:38.

(If you want to go right to the submission, it’s at the 1:58 mark of the video)

Last night in Calgary, the Canadian Football League season, which has been filled with numerous big hits, great plays, and even some crazy celebrations, was capped off with one of the most entertaining Grey Cup matches in recent memory.

The Montreal Alouettes and the Saskatchewan Roughriders were the two best teams throughout the year, leading their respective conferences, and it was only fitting that they battle it out in a final championship game which would come right down to the wire.

The majority of fans in attendance at McMahon Stadium were dressed in green to support their Roughriders, and hoping to be “on the receiving end” of the trophy when it was all said and done. It looked like that would be the case with their team up 27-10 going into the fourth quarter, but Anthony Calvillo and rest of the Montreal players would spoil the fun with a late comeback which was capped by a last second field goal to give the Alouettes the 28-27 victory.

Unfortunately this woman will have to wait one more year before having anything stuck in her “Regina.”

Total Pro Sports – And you thought the sport of curling was boring!!!!

I know most of you south of the border (USA) probably don’t even know that curling even existed, and that’s fine because sometimes I wonder why this sport was even invented? The unfortunate thing in Canada is that the sport of curling is huge and has always drawn large crowds.

Yes that’s right I’m more then happy to admit that Canadians love the cold and sports that involve a sheet of ice.

So if you didn’t know the 2009 Tim Hortons Brier is being held in Calgary, Alberta (Polar Bears and igloos do not exist there). After catching some of the nightly sports highlights on TSN (The equivalent to SportsCenter) the show ended with their nightly top plays that included a shot that occurred during curling match between Team Ontario and Team Saskatoon. Team Ontario was trailing 6-4 and down to their last shot. Skip Glenn Howard took the stone knowing that if he didn’t score 3 points they would lose the match. Well let me tell you Glen made one of the most amazing shots in curling history, he knocked both of Team Saskatchewan stones out and scored 3 points to win the match 7-6.

Howard executed the play of the week with the hammer in Ontario’s incredible 7-6 comeback win over Saskatchewan.

“It was an angle-raise, in-off double and then throw-your-hands-in-the-air-and-run-around-like-an-idiot shot,” said Howard, still shaking his head five minutes after the amazing play wowed the Saddledome crowd of 9,601 fans. “I don’t think I was happier when we won (the Brier) in 2007.” [TheRecorder&Times]

If you don’t believe us and have no clue what we are talking about just take a look at the video below and watch the reaction of Glen Howard, Joel Jordison and Team Alberta’s skip Kevin Martin, it’s priceless.

I have to admit after watching this amazing shot, I am now a fan of curling!

According to The Globe and Mail, Power Within Inc, has decided to drop Phelps from two of their shows in Western Canada. Next week, the company, which organizes motivational speaking events, will host engagements in Vancouver and Calgary. With regards to their decision, they had the following to say:

“Due to widely publicized alleged use of marijuana by Michael Phelps, the decision has been made to present the program without Mr. Phelps’ participation.”

With many stoners expecting Phelps in both Calgary and Vancouver (especially Vancouver!!), who is Power Within putting in as replacements? None other than Mehmet Oz and Martin Sheen.

That’s Right, Oz and Sheen. Looks like Michael Phelps is really no longer welcome in the country that under a year ago he had beat in the gold medal count all by himself.
