With Manchester United leading by a score of 3-1 late in the game, Torres broke in alone, danced around the Man U keeper, and found himself face-to-face with a wide open net, only to fire the ball several feet wide. Had Torres simply slid the ball into the back of the net, as you would expect a world class player like himself to do, it would have given Chelsea an opportunity to salvage the away draw with the Premier League’s top team. Instead, what the Spanish international provided was one of the most expensive misses in soccer history – a £50-million miss, to be exact.

Here is another look at the miss, accompanied by a rather fitting soundtrack.

Drogba went up up for a header, and although he was offside on the play, he was still leveled midair by Ruddy, causing the Ivory Coast international to come crashing down and smack his head on the pitch at Stamford Bridge. He remained unconscious for several minutes before being carted off the field wearing a breathing aid and taken to the hospital. He continues to recover from a concussion in London under the supervision of Chelsea’s medical staff.

As for Ruddy, he was not penalized for the challenge on Drogba, but he was assessed a straight red card following a challenge on The Blues’ Ramires in the 80th minute. Frank Lampard would capitalize on the ensuing penalty kick, and Juan Mata added another goal in extra time to give Chelsea the 3-1 victory.

We recently saw the latter transpire during a friendly against Portsmouth. Looking to preserve Chelsea’s 1-0 lead, Terry delivered a vicious boot to the face of Luke Varney, preventing him from capitalizing on a terrible back-header by one of his teammates.

As much as I’d like to applaud the never-say-die effort from Terry during this friendly, I can’t help but think that the game would be a lot better off without the flying kicks to the head.

That plan failed, as the wound reopened two days later and the media has since grabbed a hold of the story. As a result, Cole has been fined by the team and the police are now investigating the incident.

If this doesn’t sound all that interesting to you, I’d advise you watch the Taiwanese animated version of the story, which includes a rifle-touting clown, a Matrix-like shooting scene, and a volcanic eruption of blood spewing from the stomach of the wounded intern.

The Frenchman scored a goal in each half to help pace Chelsea to the 2-0 round of 16 victory over Copenhagen during their first leg in the Danish capital. His first goal came off a sloppy turnover at midfield, which allowed Anelka to walk in and fire a low shot past Copenhagen keeper Johan Wiland. He would use a similar shot to beat Wiland in the second half, this time off a beautiful feed from Frank Lampard in the 54th minute, putting Chelsea up by two goals and leaving them with a relatively easy task when they head back to Stamford Bridge for the second leg on March 16.

Anelka was the subject of much debate over the summer after being sent home by French coach Raymond Domenech during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but he has since silenced his critics with an impressive 7 goals during Champions league play, tied for most among all players. His two away goals last night may have been his most important, and they earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” for Tuesday, February 22, 2011.

For those who don’t get it, allow me to explain. After a heated exchange between himself and head coach Raymond Domenech during halftime of France’s 2-0 loss to Mexico at the World Cup, Nicolas Anelka was expelled from the team and sent home by the French Football Federation. Unhappy with his treatment in South Africa, Anelka refused to attend a hearing on the incident with the FFF. As a result, he received an additional 18-match ban from international play, essentially ending his international career.

Apparently, Anelka feels chastised by the ruling and he wanted everyone to know that, so after scoring a goal with Chelsea during their UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday, he flashed the universal sign for “handcuffs”. I wonder what the universal sign for “no one cares” is?

Goals in soccer are hard to come by. So it should come as little surprise to see fans go wild when they are greeted with the sight of their team slipping one by the opposing keeper.

And when those goals mean as much as they did to Chelsea this weekend, you can surely expect The Blues’ supporters to take things to the next level. Apparently this guy was trying to do just that, but his buttoned-all-the-way-to-the-top golf shirt seemed to restrict him from doing so.

Something tells me that the Incredible Hulk was just waiting to burst out of this man’s flesh. Unfortunatley, that didn’t happen, but we were still treated to quite the show.

The Pick: Toronto Raptors

The Reason: The Toronto Raptors look for some serious revenge tonight over the Hawks as they were blown out bye them in Atlanta’s less then 2 weeks ago. We expect this game to be close but the Raps will pull off the win.
