That was the question home plate umpire Gary Cederstrom was left asking himself during Adam Dunn’s at bat last night. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find the answer on his own, so he had to make a few phone calls, bringing an already slow and meaningless game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Chicago White Sox to an abrupt halt for several minutes.

After searching long and hard for an answer, Gary would finally emerge from the White Sox dugout and assure everyone that there was in fact three balls and two strikes to Dunn. But it wouldn’t make much of a difference, as Dunn would foul the next pitch off, before finally striking out.

Here is a look at all of the confusion.

Avila took a blazing fastball off the mask during last night’s game, but rather than seeing stars, as you would expect most catchers to see after taking a 96 mph fastball to the face, he was seeing sparks, which were created when the ball made contact with the cage of his mask.

Here is a look at the incident.

The newly acquired 24-year-old White Sox pitcher was nearly perfect, as he retired 27 of the 28 batters he faced. Stewart entered the eighth inning with his perfect game still in tact, but it was finally broken up by Danny Valencia, who started the inning with a lead-off double. But that didn’t seem to bother Stewart, as he retired the following six batters in order, finishing with nine strikeouts and a one-hit complete game shutout, en route to the 4-0 victory.

It may still be too early to determine who the winner of that trade between the Jays, White Sox and Cards was, but if Stewart’s performance last night is any indication, it appears as though Chicago may have gotten themselves a good bargain on the young righty, who earns out “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, September 5, 2011.

At first I thought it was a bunch of nonsense, but then I saw the following footage, which uncovers the identity of the white-shirted man.

Who would have guessed it would be former Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury? Not me, seeing as how he passed away almost 20 years ago. Although, his involvement does seem just about as (non)plausible as the initial claims made by the White Sox pitchers.

Somehow MLB.com was able to identify teenager Tim Anderson as the Orioles fan who has now caught a home run ball in the Camden Yards outfield in three consecutive games. During that time there has been seven balls hit into the Camden bleachers.

It will be interesting to see if Tim is in attendance at Camden Yards tonight to continue his streak with the Detroit Tigers in town. Although, if he is, we don’t like his chances, as the Tigers haven’t been able to hit one out of the park in their last five games.

Here is a look at Tim’s three catches.

Peavy stifled the Twins batters throughout the day, allowing only three hits, no walks and no earned runs while striking out six through eight innings of work. He would hand reliever Matt Thornton a 7-0 lead in the ninth and the White Sox reliever would ensure the score would stay that way, earning Peavy his first win in over a month, as well as the “Stat Line of the Night” for Sunday, August 7, 2011.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth, a foul ball off the bat of Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas ricocheted off the screen near the White Sox dugout and into the eye of Guillen. Thankfully, the resulting injury was nothing a bit of ice couldn’t take care of, and the fact that the White Sox were able to escape the inning with the game tied 1-1 probably helped him deal with some of the pain as well. However, Chicago would eventually go on to lose the game in extra innings.

Seems like just another rough night for baseball’s most colorful manager.

In Chicago, it was A.J. Pierzynski breaking a 4-4 tie with the Kansas City Royals in the bottom of the ninth via a walk-off balk, while in Washington, the Nationals claimed the extra innings victory over the Chicago Cubs when Jason Werth reached home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the tenth.

Here is a look at the interesting endings from both games.

After watching Alexei Ramirez get tagged out by Cubs’ catcher Geovany Soto on a hit that both he and Ramirez believed to be a foul ball, Guillen rushed out to argue the call, only to be tossed immediately by home plate umpire James Hoye. Already angered by the blown call (which upon review actually turned out to be the correct call), the ensuing ejection was enough to make Guillen want to kick something. That something would turn out to be Soto’s catcher’s mask.

And how did Soto feel about having his mask treated like a soccer ball by the White Sox’s bench boss? Judging by the smile on his face I’d say he enjoyed it as much as the rest of us. Here is another look at the incident.

This woman thought she had it, but quit after realizing that the camera wouldn’t capture a picture of herself and her friend if the lens wasn’t pointed at them. Better luck next time beautiful.
