Spud Webb will heading back to the hard-court, however, it won’t be with the NBA.  Instead, the 5-foot-7 former dunk champion has been hired to coach the Rick’s Cabaret/New York Stripper Basketball Team for the upcoming inaugural season of the Rick’s Basketball Association.

In the wake of the potential loss of the NBA season, the people at Rick’s Cabaret International, Inc., decided to create a league of their own, pitting women from their gentlemen’s clubs around the United States against one another in an attempt to fill the void left by the NBA lockout.  The NBA players and owners have since come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement, and their 2011-12 season is expected to begin on Christmas Day.  However, that news hasn’t stopped the girls at Rick’s from continuing to train for their league’s debut.

The ladies probably aren’t the only ones looking forward to the start of Rick’s Basketball Association.  After all, if it is anywhere close to as entertaining as the Lingerie Football League, it’ll have my attention.  I’m sure Spud feels the same way.  And I’m sure the opportunity to be in the change room with the ladies didn’t hurt his chances of coaching them either.

The 49ers handed the Lions their first loss of the season, while bumping their own record to 5-1 following a 25-19 victory at Ford Field.  That result had Harbaugh celebrating once the final whistle was blown.  However, an over-enthusiastic handshake between the head coaches did not sit well with Schwartz, who proceeded to chase down Harbaugh while players and personnel from both clubs got into it as they headed for the tunnel.

During his post-game press-conference, Harbaugh took full responsibility for the scuffle, saying “”That’s totally on me, I shook his hand too hard.”  He may be right, but it wasn’t the only time a Lion was hit hard by a 49er yesterday, as Harbaugh appears to have his team playing a hard-nosed style that has them giving up only 16.2 points per game.

Here is a look at the post-game handshake and ensuing altercation between Harbaugh and Schwartz.  If both teams continue playing they way they have been through the first six weeks of the season, their head coaches could very well be shaking hands once again in the post-season.

After witnessing one of his players being tackled rather forcefully by linesman Chris Wilson, Pankiewicz began to strip in protest, ripping off his jacket, shirt, tie, under-shirt and shoes, all of which would be tossed onto the ice before the suddenly topless Eagles coach left the bench and headed for the dressing room.

Following the game, Greg was approached by several owners from Colorado’s local male strip clubs, who were looking to add some new talent.  I guess if coaching doesn’t work out for him…

Then there is Coach Maxwell.

During his team’s match, Eric Maxwell, coach of Southern High School female volleyball team, was upset with what he had witnessed, and responded to a lost point in what he may have felt was the most fitting way possible; by throwing a ball at his player’s face.

It is bad enough that these are teenagers, but females?  Don’t expect Maxwell to be receiving any coach of the year awards anytime soon.  As for a police warrant for child abuse?  That may be just another lost point away.

Broncos players are excited about the hiring, Dre Bly had this to say about his new head coach:

“That’s enthusiasm, man,” Bly said, according to the Rocky Mountain News. “Coach Shanahan had a lot of respect. Guys looked up to him and had a good relationship. But with a guy like him, it’s like with [Broncos assistant] Jeremy Bates — exciting, enthusiasm. It’s like what Mike Tomlin brings to Pittsburgh. He brings excitement to that team. It’s good for our team. And I hope we respond to him.”

Josh McDaniels is now the third coach to leave the coaching staff of the Patriots to become an NFL head coach.  Bill Belichick should just open a school of coaching, with all the coaches that have left his staff to become head coaches in the NFL it only makes sense.

Hopefully McDaniels can turnaround the Broncos team which flopped at the end of the season and missed the playoffs.  McDaniels is an offensive guru who lead the Patriots to one of the highest scoring teams in the NFL.

The combination of McDaniels and the high flying Denver Broncos is a scary combination, but hopefully they won’t flop like they did this year.
