Leafs’ Colton Orr Was Tebowing Following A Shootout Goal (Video)

With only 11 goals and 20 points throughout his seven-year NHL career, Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Colton Orr hasn’t had plenty of opportunities to show off his goal celebrations. He was afforded that opportunity during the Leafs Nation Fan Night at the Air Canada Center last night, and he took full advantage by getting down on one knee and “Tebowing” following his shootout goal against teammate James Reimer.

If you were wondering what kind of celebration Orr has in store for his next goal, you shouldn’t, because you probably won’t get to see it anytime soon.

The Edmonton Oilers’ Zack Stortini seems to have a knack for picking on the biggest enforcers the NHL has to offer. He encountered another one of those big boys last night when the Oilers hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it was only a matter of time before he and Colton Orr renewed acquaintances once again.

These two combatants had dropped the gloves a few times during Orr’s days with the New York Rangers. However, it will be tough to convince me that any of their previous bouts were as entertaining as this one, which was a more-than-worthy recipient of our “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night” for Tuesday, December 14, 2010.

Earlier in the season we brought you an edition of the “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night” that featured the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Deryk Engelland delivering a one-punch knockout to the Maple Leafs’ Colton Orr. Last night these two teams squared off once again, and so too did their enforcers.

Orr was looking for some revenge on Engelland, and while he did not quite get it in the form of a knockout, he was able to stay on his feet and deliver a few solid punches this time around. However, those punches did not come without him having to bear the consequence of receiving a few shots of his own. But sometimes those are the sacrifices you must make in order to earn a spot on our “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night.”

For a moment during last night’s game between the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs, it appeared as though Alex Ovechkin was looking to start something with Leafs enforcer Colton Orr. However, D.J. King would end up stepping in for Ovechkin on this occasion, as he took care of the fighting and left the scoring to the Caps’ superstar.

After watching his teammate take on Orr in a spirited bout, Ovechkin repaid King by burying a wicked wrister past Jonas Gustavsson. And immediately after celebrating the goal with his teammates on the ice, Ovi skated by the penalty box and gave King a gratuitous tap on the glass with his stick.

Orr did manage to win the fight, and the Leafs would end up winning the game, but King’s courage and effort does earn him a spot on the “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night” for Tuesday, December 6, 2010.

Following a knockout loss at the hands of Deryk Engelland in his last bout, the Leafs’ Colton Orr was looking to bounce back last night, but he wasn’t making things any easier on himself as he took on Rangers’ tough guy Derek Boogaard. Thankfully, he would survive this one long enough to go the distance.

It was a battle between two of the NHL’s most feared enforcers, and it certainly did not disappoint as both men got in some big bombs. That was easily enough for us to make this the “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night” for Thursday, October 22, 2010.

If you conducted a poll among NHL players to find out who they thought the toughest enforcer in the league was, chances are Colton Orr would make the top three, if not number one. So anytime the Leafs’ tough guy gets knocked out, it is hard not to label is as the “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight Of The Night.”

Most people would only give the Pens’ Deryk Engelland a puncher’s chance in this bout, but he sure made good use of that punch. Check it out.

Cheap Shots, Biting, Great Goals. Rangers vs Caps Had It All

Total Pro Sports – If you had the pleasure of watching the Washington Capitals take care of the New York Rangers yesterday afternoon at Madison Square Gardens, then you got a healthy dose of action. Not only did the game’s outcome mean a game 7 is in the works, but there was also a fair share of story-lines to thicken the plot.

Before the game even got started there was the interesting tale of John Tortorella’s suspension and the thought of Jim Schoenfeld taking over behind the bench. In case you don’t remember, Schoenfeld was the last coach to be suspended during the playoffs for physical contact with referee Don Koharski in the dressing room area. The incident was video recorded an has since become a YouTube classic. There was also the question of whether Sean Avery would play or not.

Then during the game, viewers witnessed a cheap shot by Donald Brashier to the head of Blair Betts that left him dazed and forced him to leave the game. Replays were then shown of an incident at the pregame skate between Brashier and Rangers enforcer Colton Orr.

The game also had some nice goals, none better than Victor Kozlov’s, and to end it all off, there was a biting incident. During a scrum behind the Caps’ net, Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky was apparently bitten by Shane Morrison of the Washington Capitals. There is not doubt after all these incidents the NHL will have its hands full during the series’ off day sorting out suspensions. They will also have some extra eyes tuned into game 7 when the series shifts back to the Verizon Center in Washington.
