With the game tied and only 0.6 seconds left on the clock, Magic coach Stan Van Gundy devised a brilliant play that would leave Lee with an open backdoor ally-op layup. Unfortunately he missed it by quite a substantial margin and his team would go on to lose in overtime 101-96. The win now gives Wolverine and his teammates a commanding 2-0 series lead headed to Orlando for the next three games.

Someone may have to call Magneto to stop Kobe Bryant, Gasol and the rest of the Lakers. Even the Candyman, Lamar Odom, was firing on all cylinders. I guess Superman (Dwight Howard) is no match for the X-Men. If he is, he’s running out of time to prove it.

It began in the first quarter with the game tied, Dwight aka Superman went up to block a Willie Green shot. On his way down teammate Courtney Lee took an elbow to the face, leaving him out of it and forcing him to leave the game. Not too long after that, following a Magic basket, Superman tried to disguise an elbow to the head of Sixers center Samuel Dalembert. The blatant elbow didn’t go unnoticed and Howard would recieve a technical for it. Whether a suspension will follow is anyone’s guess at this point.

When all was said and done and it was time to hear what the coaches had to say in their post-game press conferences, an interesting battle between Sixers coach Tony DiLeo accused Howard of “living in the 3 second lane”. After being asked to speak further on this, he continued to utter the same notion that Superman is getting an unfair advantage in the 3 second lane.

When it was Stan Van Gundy’s turn to speak, he immidiatly asked whether he should do the same as his counterpart and begin to lobby for calls. Refusing to accept DiLeo’s explanation, he even questioned whether Howard’s numbers were simply a result of him being good. I think Stan may have a point here.

Here are videos of the two elbows (to Lee and Dalembert), and the two coached speaking about the game.
