Demarcus Lawrence played college football for Butler Community College and Boise State before he entered the 2014 NFL Draft. He was selected in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys, but fractured his foot in training camp and was unable to play until Week 9. He made his first career start in 2015, and in January of 2016 he had back surgery. That same year Lawrence was suspended for amphetamine use, and in 2017, he was named to his first Pro Bowl with 14.5 sacks.
In 2019, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Lawrence and he signed a five-year, $105 million contract, which made him the highest-paid defensive end in the NFL. In 2022, Lawrence signed a three-year $40 million contract extension with the Cowboys making him the first defensive end to have his contract guaranteed for seven straight seasons.
