This doesn’t rise to the level of idiocy we saw this weekend from Dre Bly, Abdul-Jabbar definitely comes off as somewhat of a moron.  A full category is devoted to UCLA, Kareem’s alma mater, and on the first question from the category he screws it up.  Not only is the question an easy one about UCLA, but it is literally his line from the movie “Airplane”.  In the scene where the kid calls him out on being Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and gives him a hard time about playing defense, he has a memorable line telling the kid to tell his dad to try to “drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes”.  The question has a blank for Walton’s name and the answer is obviously “Who is Bill Walton?”  Obvious to some I guess.

And even if he forgot the movie and the line, did he really think he played for the Blazers?  At least Alex Trebek played it off with his classic sense of humor.  He had no problem making fun of Kareem right to his face, just like he did to Bill Belichek earlier this year.  I’m sure Kareem was just nervous, but he should be able to answer that one in his sleep.

In yesterday’s 45-10 shellacking by the Falcons, the Niners defense was on its heels all day and this play in the 3rd quarter was no different.  Matt Ryan dropped back to throw and tried to hit Roddy White with a pass across the middle.  The referee seems to have gotten in White’s way, allowing Dre Bly to step up and easily pick off the pass.

That’s where things get, well, embarrassing for Dre Bly.  At his own 20 yard line, with Roddy White and other Falcons still hot on his tail, Bly inexplicably decided to do a little high-stepping and showboating.  He was still very close to most of the Falcons offense at that point, and Roddy White is by no means a slow guy.  He easily caught up to Bly.  The rest is history:

At least he didn’t just set the ball down like this guy, though he might as well have.

Broncos players are excited about the hiring, Dre Bly had this to say about his new head coach:

“That’s enthusiasm, man,” Bly said, according to the Rocky Mountain News. “Coach Shanahan had a lot of respect. Guys looked up to him and had a good relationship. But with a guy like him, it’s like with [Broncos assistant] Jeremy Bates — exciting, enthusiasm. It’s like what Mike Tomlin brings to Pittsburgh. He brings excitement to that team. It’s good for our team. And I hope we respond to him.”

Josh McDaniels is now the third coach to leave the coaching staff of the Patriots to become an NFL head coach.  Bill Belichick should just open a school of coaching, with all the coaches that have left his staff to become head coaches in the NFL it only makes sense.

Hopefully McDaniels can turnaround the Broncos team which flopped at the end of the season and missed the playoffs.  McDaniels is an offensive guru who lead the Patriots to one of the highest scoring teams in the NFL.

The combination of McDaniels and the high flying Denver Broncos is a scary combination, but hopefully they won’t flop like they did this year.
