Wide receiver Lavasier Tuinei may have been the recipient of the Rose Bowl MVP award – and a worthy one, with 8 receptions, 158 yards and 2 touchdowns - following Oregon’s 45-38 victory over Wisconsin, but the real game-changer for the Ducks was running back/kick returner De’Anthony Thomas.

Sure, Thomas may have only carried the ball twice, but both of those carries went for long touchdowns, including a 91-yard run at the end of the first quarter that tied the game at 14-14 and set a new Rose Bowl record for longest run. The previous mark was held by Tyrone Wheatley, who recorded an 88-yard run during the 1993 Rose Bowl.

For Thomas, the “Granddaddy of Them All” was the perfect stage for him to show the entire nation why he is one of the most dynamic weapons in all of college football. And for those who didn’t receive that message during his first touchdown run, they surely got it during his second; a 61-yard end-around at the beginning of the third quarter.

With De’Anthony Thomas still in Eugene next season, don’t expect the Ducks’ offense to slow down in 2012.

The Oregon Ducks will take the field on January 2nd for the 2012 Rose Bowl, and they will do so in style, thanks to their Nike Pro Combat system uniforms, which were recently unveiled with “the Granddaddy of the All” less than one week away.

If style has anything to do with winning, the Ducks appear to have a significant advantage over Big Ten champions Wisconsin, as both their jerseys and their high-flying, quick-paced offense have made them one of the funnest college football programs to watch over the past couple of seasons.

A few of the new features instituted into the Ducks’ Rose Bowl uniforms include bigger, bolder numbers that change color when they move, an armored wing design on their shoulders, and helmets with a LiquidMetal Black finish that gives them a reflective, chrome look.

Will all of this help the Ducks soar to a victory over the Badgers on Monday? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, you can check out the Ducks’ new uniform in the images below.

American Airlines Arena, home of the Dallas Stars was no exception. After the final buzzer sounded giving the visiting Ducks the 4-3 win, Stars forward Steve Ott gave Ducks Defenseman Scott Neidermeyer a couple of crosschecks in front of the net. Goalie J. S. Giguere wasn’t having that so he decided to give Ott a shot. When Ott retaliated, the race was on; who could get their hands on Steve Ott first. Travis Moen beat out teammate Chris Pronger, and proceeded to then beat on Ott’s head.

Ott clearly deserved it for thinking that he would be able to get away with taking liberties on the Anaheim Ducks star defenseman, but we are all left to wonder what he was thinking, doing that with a broken hand. He had to know that he was going to draw some attention for his actions.

As for the great conclusion to this event, Ott has been suspended indefinitely without pay by the NHL for his involvement in the incident. He received a 5 minute fighting major and a match penalty, which brought about the suspension. I guess they don’t think Moen’s punishment was enough. It is anyone’s guess as to whether they will take that into consideration when making their final decision regarding when he may return to the Stars lineup.

Here’s a video of the incident:
