According to a police report released Wednesday, Carbera walked into the Cowboys Bar-B-Q & Steak Co. restaurant in Fort Pierce, Florida at approximately 10:15 pm the night of his arrest.  After being told by the manager that the restaurant was closing, Cabrera continued inside before patting a bag on his shoulder and telling the manager, “I will kill you, I know all of you, and I will kill all of you and blow this place up.”  Cabrera also told the manager and an agent with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, who was also present at the bar, that he “had a gun in his bag for us.”

Cabrera, who the manager and wildlife agent claim smelled like alcohol and had blood-shot eyes, eventually left and a 9-1-1 call was made by a waitress at the restaurant.

When officers of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office found Cabrera, he ignored their commands to get off the road.  Reports also indicate that he took a swig from a bottle of James Buchanan’s scotch whiskey in front of the officers, and when he was told to drop to his knees, Cabrera said, “f*%king shoot me, kill me.”  He has since pleaded not guilty to charges for DUI and two counts of resisting arrest.

So how did he celebrate his return?  By going out, getting plastered, driving drunk, and eventually falling asleep behind the wheel as his car, which was stopped in the middle of an intersection.  If he was looking for a way to get himself kicked off the winless Bucs, he found it.

Taking a page from the book of former Lions first round pick Charles Rogers, Johnson was discovered passed out behind the wheel by Tampa Bay police.  His car was in the middle of an intersection, and when he was awaken by officers they detected “a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage from the defendant’s mouth, bloodshot/glassy eyes, and a noticeable sway upon standing unsupported.”

A field sobriety test was administered, and officers were lead to believe that Johnson was in fact impaired, but apparently he was not too drunk to know that he should refuse to take a breathalyzer test.

He was eventually arrested for DUI and has since been let go by his team.  So what is worse?  Spending a night in jail, or playing for the 0-7 Buccaneers?  I would have to say the latter.

All the aforementioned had received bad publicity for their stupidity, but Charles Rogers is about to do them one better.  You see, driving while under the influence has been played out by athletes.  Rogers was looking for something new, and he got it…

Parking Under the Influence. The former first round pick of the Detroit Lions was arrested Wednesday night after officers in Novi, Michigan found him “unresponsive behind the wheel of his still running, and in gear, Mercedes on Meadowbrook Road.”  After failing a roadside sobriety test, Rogers was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated and Operating a Motor Vehicle While License Not Valid.

Rogers had been trying to get himself a gig in the Canadian Football League, but is ineligible to play there because he is still serving a suspension in the NFL.

We are not sure what to think of Roger’s recent antics.  While we would like to think he made the smart move by falling asleep behind the wheel of his car, rather than driving while under the influence, we just can’t seem to understand why he would sit in the driver’s seat and start the car at all.

Taurasi was pulled over by an officer in Phoenix early on the morning of July 2nd.  She was compliant with the cops and submitted blood for an alcohol test.  Results have now come back and reports are indicating that her blood-alcohol level was 0.17 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 in the state of Arizona.

The 27-year-old guard for the Phoenix Mercury has pleaded not guilty will now appear in court on July 22 for three drunk driving charges, including extreme DUI.  That should teach her not to act like an NBA star!

Taurasi’s Phoenix Mercury had just completed a game hours earlier, a 93-81 victory over the Seattle Storm.  She had 22 points and four blocked shots and must have celebrated with a few drinks before driving home.  She was pulled over at 7th Avenue and Camelback Road at about 2:30am Thursday morning for speeding and failing to drive in one lane.  When pulled over, the officer smelled alcohol and gave her a field sobriety test.

Following the test she was taken to a mobile DUI van for blood testing, then released to friends.  The results of her blood test were not revealed, but authorities did say she was “polite and courteous with the officers.”  I guess even her NBA star impression is still lacking somewhat.

It is confusing for most to comprehend how athletes who often get paid generous amount of money can get behind the wheel of a car when drunk, rather than take a cab.  I guess those WNBA salaries just aren’t comparable with their male basketball-playing counterparts.  I wonder if Rowdy Roddy Piper will use a similar excuse for WWE wrestlers.

Piper, whose real name is Roderick George Toombs, was pulled over by police at 1am local time.  He was taken to jail and held on bail for $5000 before being released at about 8am that morning.  He has been scheduled to appear in court July 23.  Hopefully Piper will be a little more controlled than his old rival Hulk Hogan was during his appearance in front of the judge.

It was only a couple of months ago when Piper was once again making his presence felt in the WWE at WrestleMania 25. He has since stated that owner Vince McMahon was looking to get him back in another storyline for one of the WWE’s shows.  That plan will likely be on hold now as Piper deals with this incident.  When asked previously about the role of drugs and alcohol within the business, he stated the following:

“Thinking about the friends, the brothers I’ve lost, makes me feel lonesome. I lived with these guys, literally.  I wonder why no-one on the outside catches on to what’s happening? I guess it’s because they don’t care.” [The Sun]

We do care Roddy and we do catch on.  The real question is “does anyone within the business care?”  Right now the answer seems to be an emphatic “NO.”

After drinking and watching the NASCAR race, two friends decided to jump on their horses and go for a ride.  They were soon stopped by officers who noticed their struggle to stay on the horse and maintain control of it.  The two men were required to pay nearly $900 for bail and will appear in court next month.

The son of one of the men just doesn’t seem to understand.  After all, he has never heard of someone getting charged for a DUI while riding a horse.  Well that’s likely because no one is stupid enough to think about doing that.  At least not along the busy streets where cars are usually driving around.  The son also appears to be reading the ticket pretty closely.  Maybe he found a mistake on it under the make of the vehicle.

I wonder what would have happened it they were stoned????

Yesterday (4/2/09) Stallworth had a court date in Florida, and surrendered himself to authorities on charges of DUI vehicular manslaughter. On March 14th at 7 a.m. Stallworth allegedly struck and killed 59 year old Mario Reyes. Initially Stallworth had claimed Mr. Reyes had been in the middle of the road when he hit him, but I have heard other reports saying that Stallworth actually drove his Bentley up on the sidewalk and hit him. He was given a breathalyzer test and blew a .126, almost twice the legal limit of .08 in Florida.

Sadly, he isn’t the first athlete to be caught driving under the influence, or even worse , taking a life while doing it. Former Yankee catcher Jim Leyritz is involved in a similar case. I don’t understand what these guys are thinking, unfortunately drunk driving is a massive problem in this country. I am positive that many people you know, or maybe even yourself has been guilty of this crime at one time or another. The fact that you made it home safely doesn’t change the fact that you are a complete moron for doing this. I am sure Stallworth didn’t have the intention of mowing somebody down on the way home. That’s the thing about alcohol, it impairs your judgment.

I am not making excuses for the common man with this next point, but I have to say it bothers me even more when it’s an athlete, or celebrity that gets nailed for this. I say that because these type of people have unlimited resources in terms of money. If you know you are going out, higher a car service. If you end up going out and have a few too many and weren’t planning on it, call a cab ! I mean it’s just ridiculous , what’s the big deal? Stallworth just received a 4.5 million dollar roster bonus the day before this happened. Are you trying to tell me he didn’t have enough to take a cab home?

I am sure that is not the case. Yet these things still continue to happen. We all know the dangers, it has been beaten into our very sub conscious at this point, yet drunk drivers are still responsible for so many deaths year to year. It is completely unacceptable in my opinion. I think a lot of it is the alcohol impairment, I think some of it is just plain arrogance. Whatever it is the law doesn’t care. The law does not distinguish between one life and another based on financial status , class, or looks etc. it is not a nightclub. When you irresponsibly get behind the wheel impaired, you are gambling with the lives of many, and that is where the arrogance comes in. I wish I had answers, I do not. All I know is many lives have been ruined because of this incident, Mr. Reyes who paid with his life, his loved ones.

I am trying to cope with Stallworth’s senselessness, who probably will be heading to prison for 15 years.

So, you guys tell me, when will this end? When will we learn ?

On December 31st, at 1:30 am a Gilbert police officer spotted the former NBA star running a stop sign.  He immediately pulled him over where and smelled alcohol on him.  Charles Barkley proceeded to fail a standard of field sobriety tests and declined to submit to a breath test but was given a blood test.  He was immediately arrested on suspicion of DUI.

“Barkley was sentenced to 10 days in jail — but will only do five if he completes an alcohol education program. Barkley was also fined $2,000.  Barkley will begin his sentence on March 21 — but it’s unclear if he will serve time in Arizona’s famed Tent City Jail, where they make the inmates wear pink.”

It has also been suggested that if Barkley completes his the court approved alcohol program, the sentence will be reduced to only 5 days in prison.  Realistically we wonder if he will actually do any of this?

Hopefully Charles has learned from this embarrassing ordeal and will straighten out his life.  We all missed the loud mouth Barkley when he took the leave of absence from TNT.  Were glad your back!

Almost a week later Charles Barkley told TNT that he was going to take a leave of absence from the show.  We think that it was TNT’s decision not Charles, but we hope that Charles Barkley can find himself and return to the show sooner then later.

The skit on Saturday Night Live was hilarious, the main topic during the interview was about his rush to get a  BJ.  The person imitating Charles Barkley referred to the BJ as a Burger.

“It’s like you driving around one day and your real horny for a hamburger, and then you remember that their is one girl that gives a great burger.  The burger is so good, that you black out and when you awake shes still giving you the burger.” Said Charles on SNL
