The Georgetown University men’s basketball team is in the middle of what school officials are calling a “goodwill” exhibition trip to China. Only problem is, no one bothered to tell any of the players about this “goodwill” stuff.

Last night the Georgetown Hoyas played the Bayi Rockets, and things got a little heated. GU guard Jason Clark took exception to a hard foul by Bayi forward Hu Ke, so he let him hear about it. Either Hu Ke speaks english, or Clark provided adequate hand gestures, because next thing you know the benches cleared and a pro wrestling match broke out. Fans were throwing water bottles at Georgetown players, and somebody hit senior center Henry Sims with a chair.

Of course, that hard foul by Hu Ke was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. Earlier in the game, while Hoyas coach John Thompson was shouting instructions to his players, Rockets forward Xu Zhonghao walked up to him and, in the words of the Washington Post reporter who was at the game, began “berating” him. Needless to say, Thompson was stunned.

I guess these things happen in basketball, but really? All these college kids and no one knows the meaning of “goodwill”?

I have often been quick to criticize professional wrestling for its tendency to provide us with numerous instances of poor acting, but even I must give credit where credit is due.  There are times when this hybrid breed of sports and entertainment provides us with a moment that leaves us in awe.

Here is another one of those moments.

Wrestling is full of homosexual innuendos.  What, with the tights, some of the starting positions (one man behind the other man on all fours) and, well, wrestling it’s hard not to think that these individuals are really enjoying rolling around on the floor together.  But the line is crossed when one sticks his or her fingers up their opponent’s butt.  That’s just inappropriate.  But this is totally acceptable.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has never looked better, thanks to female MMA fighter Carina Damm.  With the nickname “Beauty but the Beast”, it is no secret that Damm can instill fear into her female opponents while attracting some rather significant attention from her sexually charged male following.

Her record in the ring speaks speaks for itself, as she has won 14 of her 17 fights and is currently riding nine fight winning streak.  Equally impressive is her resume outside the ring, where she has been featured in a clothed pictorial for the Japanese Playboy, and has been dubbed by the Brazilian media as MMA’s “Barbie Girl.”

So what is next for Carina Damm?  That remains to be seen, but if life were fair, I would have to assume we would currently be talking about a lingerie match between herself and fellow MMA hotties Gina Carano, or Sarah Ponce.  We’re not picky.  Either one will do.

We probably should mention, however, that the second match was between Kim Couture and Kerry Vera, two women who pack equally heavy punches.  Kim, the former wife of Randy Couture, and Kerry, the current wife of Brandon Vera, exchanged blows during their Strikeforce Challengers bout in Kansas City on Friday, providing just as much entertainment as their mates (or in Kim’s case, former mate) did in London, England only days earlier.

The two came out punching, but in the end it was Kerry who finished the fight with a flurry of vicious punches at 3:35 of the first round, avenging her husband’s defeat from the previous weekend.  She did not want it to go to the judges’ scorecards and possibly suffer the same fate as Brandon.  Her fists made sure that didn’t happen.

With Vera proving that she is a force to be reckoned with, and the likes of Fedor Emelianenko and Cris “Cyborg” Santos already establishing themselves as elite level MMA fighters, Strikeforce is quickly putting together a strong stable of fighters going forward.

Total Pro Sports – World Victory Road’s “Sengoku Ninth Battle” took place at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, but when it was all over, Dan Hornbuckle had Akihiro Gono feeling like he got knocked into an entirely different universe.

It didn’t have the flair of Marcus Aurelio‘s Capoeira kick KO, or the speed of Steve Ramirez‘s three second victory, but Hornbuckle definitely made a case for himself for knockout of the year.  Don’t think so?  Just ask Gono, although you may have to wait a while until he actually gains consciousness again.

It all starts when Gono throws a rather weak front kick.  Hornbucklegrabs a hold of the leg, which causes Gono to lose balance.  As he tries to regain his footing, he is greeted with a devastating foot to the face.  As you would expect after taking suck a strike, Gono hits the mat like a ton of bricks.  Luckily Hornbuckle did not pull a Dan Henderson and throw in an extra shot.

Gono suffered a concussion, possible brain hemorrhaging, and damage to his neck, but is expected to make a full recovery.  If he wants to avoid making another YouTube classic KO, he may want to consider avoiding kicks to the head next time.

Total Pro Sports – His name is Steve Ramirez and he doesn’t appear to enjoy long fights.  That is why this Saturday night was a successful one, as he stepped into the ring at a PureCombat “Home Turf” event and only needed three seconds before celebrating a knockout victory.

Bringing back memories of Dan Henderson’s vicious overhand right to the chin of Michael Bisping at UFC 100, Ramirez wasted no time coming out and connecting on a solid shot square to the head of his opponent.  The fight ended immediately, sending what sounded like a hometown crowd into a frenzy.  It was as if it had finished before it ever began.  Even Matt Baker, who hit an unsuspecting Brandon Sauve during the opening second handshake, needed six seconds to finish his fight.

With this bout in the books so early, we are left to wonder if an even quicker ending is possible.  Cam Stewart was able to hold off for longer than three seconds before Bas Rutten put him to sleep, but I guess when you come out swinging like Ramirez did, there is always the possibility of hitting an early one out of the park.  Consider his opponents face in this one to be the hanging curve ball.

Total Pro Sports – It seems as though every time we think we have seen the MMA KO of the year, someone else comes around the following week and gives us an even better candidate for the prestigious award.  It started of with Yahir Reyes‘ spinning backfist.  Then we witnessed Chad Leonhardt‘s vicious knee at Bellator IX, but that was soon to be outdone by the the flying knee of Jose Aldo at WEC 41.  And only a few weeks ago, Dan Henderson connected on an overhand right knocking Michael Bisping out cold.

Although those were all impressive knockouts, I think it is safe to say they have been outdone by the remarkable creativity, and unorthodox style of Marcus “Lelo” Aurelio.  They call it Capoeira, a Brazilian style of martial arts, but whatever it was, you can bet Keegan Marshall never wants to see it again.

As the bell rings, Aurelio opens with some wild spinning crescent kicks, and a few other moves that are rarely seen in MMA fights.  Then he attempts consecutive Capoeira kicks, the first one missing but the second connecting squarely on the chin of Marshall, knocking him out.  Who knew all that jumping around would actually work?  Too bad it didn’t happen the same way in the movie Bloodsport.

Yes, steroids may actually help you achieve such feats even quicker that originally anticipated, but as BJ said, “it’s not good,”  and the man is right.  If only guys like A-Rod and Manny Ramirez had listened to such advice.

BJ has been finding himself in several home made videos lately.  This one came after his ab workouts.  He states that someone mentioned the use of steroids during the workout and now he is just clearing the air.  The man may be a baby at times, but we are going to applaud BJ here for the strong message.  Maybe his own anti-steroid campaign is right around the corner.

Total Pro Sports – For some, six seconds is not even enough to make it to the center of the ring (unless you are Jose Aldo).  For Matt Baker, it was all the time he needed to knock out his opponent, Brandon Sauve.

This past weekend marked another edition of King of the Cage in Edmonton, Alberta, and the KO of the night belonged to Baker.  Unfortunately, it comes with some controversy.

The fighters met at the center of the ring to listen to instructions from the ref, touched gloves, and headed back to their respective corners.  As the fight began, they both approached the middle of the ring, and Sauve seemingly placed his hand out to touch gloves again as a show of sportsmanship, but Baker was having none of that.

He ducked under the outstretched arm of Sauve, and gave him a right to the head knocking him to the ground.  Baker jumped all over the opportunity and ended the fight just seconds later.  It was no Henderson vs. Bisping, but it was entertaining none the less.

Many may think that it was a cheap move on the part of Baker, but how many times do we need to see fighters touch gloves?  Once the bell goes, the only things those mitts should be touching is their opponents face!  Sauve learned that the hard way Saturday night.
