When Modell first announced his intentions to move the team, his plans were not accepted with open arms from the city of Cleveland or the league. However, all sides were eventually able to negotiate a deal that would allow the Browns’ name, colors, uniform designs and franchise records to remain in Cleveland. The Browns would be reactivated three years later, whereas the Ravens would be considered an expansion franchise in 1996.

The Ravens would begin to build a solid franchise from there, drafting Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis in the first-round of the 1996 draft, and Peter Boulware during the next year’s draft. It would not be long before they found themselves in the Super Bowl, defeating the New York Giants in the big game on January 28, 2001.

Here is a highlight video from the Ravens’ Super Bowl victory.

The show featured several big name musicians, including Jessica Simpson, P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, but in the end the focus would be on just two performers; Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson. While capping off the final song of their performance, Timberlake’s “Rock Your Body,” Justin ripped off a piece of Janet Jackson’s costume that had been covering her breast. With Janet’s breast exposed, CBS immediately cut to an aerial view of the stadium, but by that time everyone had already witnessed this act of indecent exposure.

Complaints poured into the network as millions were up in arms over what they had witnessed. The incident sparked a nationwide debate regarding television censorship and led to a record $550,000 fine handed down by the FCC on CBS. That wardrobe malfunction also became the most rewatched moment in TiVo history.

Here is another look at the incident.

The New York Giants upset the favorite Buffalo Bills to capture the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship.

The Buffalo Bills entered the game as seven point favorites, but it was the Giants who used their power running game to manage the clock and remain in control of the game. New York held the ball for over 40 minutes, as running back Ottis Anderson pounded the Bills defense to the tune of 102 rushing yards on 21 carries. Anderson also added one reception for seven yards and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Despite the Giants’ overwhelming ball possession, the Bills still had one last shot to win it at the end of the game.

Trailing 20-19 with 2:16 remaining, Bills quarterback Jim Kelly led his team down the field to the Giants 29-yard line, setting up kicker Scott Norwood for a 47-yard field goal with eight seconds left. However, Norwood’s kick would sail just right of the goalpost and would mark the first of four consecutive losses in the Super Bowl for the Buffalo franchise.

Here are highlights from Super Bowl XXV.

When watching a football game (whether in the comfort of your own home or at your favorite sports bar) there are two types of plays that always elicit excited, nacho-spilling outbursts. The first is an incredible, physics-defying catch that no one saw coming. The second is a bone-crushing hit that knocks a guy out of hit cleats.

On occasion, the Super Bowl provides moments like these—David Tyree’s helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII comes to mind. But usually it doesn’t. So today we thought we’d provide you with the dose of excitement you probably won’t be getting with you sit down to watch the Giants and Pats duke it out 10 days from now.

Thus, here are 20 awesome (and, in some cases, mesmerizing) tackle GIFs that will remind you why you like football to begin with. They might also make you glad that you yourself do not play football. Either way, we think you’ll enjoy them.

This Chicago Bears team was led by their stellar defense, which many consider to be the best defense in football history. The “46 Zone” defense led the league in several defensive categories during the regular season and dominated the Patriots throughout the entire game. The Bears recorded seven sacks and held New England to just seven rushing yards on the day. Defensive end Richard Dent, who led the league in sacks, was named the game’s Most Valuable Player as he recorded 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and also defended a pass.

Chicago quarterback Jim McMahon rushed for two touchdowns and defensive tackle William “The Refrigerator” Perry also ran one in from one yard out. The only thing that went wrong for the Bears was they were unable to get a touchdown for future hall-of-fame and all-time great running back Walter Payton.

Here are highlights from Super Bowl XX.

The Broncos rode San Diego native, running back Terrell Davis to victory as he was the center piece of the offense. Davis ran for a Super Bowl record three rushing touchdowns to go along with 157 rushing yards. He also added two receptions for eight yards and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. This was one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history as the Packers entered the game as defending champions and 11-point favorites.

It took him 15 years, but Denver quarterback John Elway finally got the Super Bowl championship he waited for his whole life. After losing the big game three times earlier, Elway would win back-to-back Super Bowls in his final two seasons before retiring on top of the football world.

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21 to capture the franchise’s first Super Bowl title.

The 49ers took a 20-0 first half lead, led by quarterback Joe Montana who ran for a touchdown and threw for another en route to being named as the game’s Most Valuable Player. Although the Bengals would mount a comeback in the second half, the 20-point deficit was too much for them to overcome. In addition to Montana’s two touchdowns, San Francisco received a record tying four field goals from kicker Ray Wersching.

Since meeting in Super Bowl XVI, the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals have gone in different directions. The 49ers have gone on to win four more Super Bowls, while the Bengals have made just one more appearance in the big game, losing once again to San Francisco in Super Bowl XXIII.

Here are highlights from Super Bowl XVI.

Exactly 29 days later, the game was finally replayed, but rather than filling the stands with Ajax’s rowdy fans, Dutch League officials decided to allow only children under the age of 13 (and one guardian for every six kids) to enter the stadium during yesterday’s make-up game. And while an exciting soccer game was taking place on the pitch (Alkmaar prevailed by a score of 3-2), the sound coming from the stands seemed more like what you would expect to hear at a Justin Bieber concert.

You can listen to the sound of the screaming children following Ajax’s second goal in the video below.

With the BCS National Championship Game in the books and the 2011 NCAA Football season officially complete, now seems like a perfect time to look back at what the past 12 years of college football has had to offer. However, rather than focusing on the good, such as Boise State’s unimaginable 43-42 overtime victory over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, or the epic 2006 Rose Bowl battle between Vince Young’s Texas Longhorns and Reggie Bush’s USC Trojans, we’ve decided to focus on the bad side of college football – the scandals!

There have been plenty of scandals that have taken place within NCAA football programs across the nation throughout the past 12 years. MTV’s “Clutch Blog” helps us take a look at them with this interesting “College Football Scandal Map.”
