It isn’t often we see UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre react to the taunting and trash-talking from his opposition, but it appears as though Nick Diaz pushed all the right buttons following his UFC 137 victory over BJ Penn.

After earning a well-deserved unanimous decision victory, Diaz had the following to say during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan:

“I don’t think Georges is hurt. I think he’s scared. Where you at Georges?”

Those comments didn’t sit well with St-Pierre, who proceeded to sarcastically shake his hands at the camera in fear, before requesting a bout with Diaz. During the post-fight press conference, Dana White announced that Diaz and St-Pierre would meet in the Octagon at UFC 143, which is set to take place during Super Bowl weekend.

According to Dana, St-Pierre flipped out following Diaz’s comments and told him that “Diaz is the most disrespectful human being I’ve ever met, and I’m going to put the worst beating you’ve ever seen on him in the UFC.”

Interestingly enough, St-Pierre and Diaz were originally set to square off at UFC 137, but Diaz’s inability to show up for a press-conference a few months ago resulted in him being dropped from the fight. Carlos Condit was chosen to step in for Diaz, but an injury to St-Pierre in September caused their bout to be cancelled and the fight between Diaz and Penn was inserted as the main event of the evening.

Hopefully injuries and missed press-conferences won’t derail their fight this time around, as it should be a good one. Here is a look at Diaz’s post-fight interview with Joe Rogan (first video), and Dana White’s announcement of Diaz vs. St-Pierre (second video).

The newly acquired Patriots wideout called out the UFC Welterweight Champion during a recent photo shoot for Tapout mouthguards and Real G Wristbands. He even went so far as to claim that he “isn’t gonna lose to no f*ckin Canadian.”

As a Canadian, I’d like to see him back up that smack talk and step into the octagon with GSP. On second thought, as an owner of Tom Brady and Chad Ochocinco in one of my fantasy football keeper leagues, maybe it is in my best interests that he doesn’t follow through with this challenge.

It appears as though their only option at this point is to learn how to defend themselves. The UConn Husky and the Princeton Tiger have decided to do just that, and they hired the perfect trainer for the job, Georges St. Pierre. The reigning UFC Welterweight Champion is fresh off an impressive showing on season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” where his team dominated Josh Koscheck’s and eventually represented both spots in the finale.

Now GSP will finally get his opportunity to shut Koscheck up and he will be looking to do so quickly, but before stepping into the octagon on Saturday, December 11th at UFC 124 in Montreal, Canada, he stopped by the gym to give the Tiger and the Husky a first-class lesson in mixed martial arts.

The UFC returns to the octagon on Saturday with UFC 111. One of the stronger cards in recent memory that includes welterweight champion George St. Pierre against Dan Hardy, and an interim heavyweight championship bout between Shane Carwin and Frank Mir.

St. Pierre is coming off a dominating unanimous decision victory over Thiago Alves at UFC 100, and is looking to defend his belt for a 5th time. Hardy has blown through the UFC, going undefeated in his 4 UFC fights with notable wins over Mike Swick, Marcus Davis, and Akihiro Gono. With the way that St. Pierre has owned the welterweight division, Hardy is one of the few credible welterweights left for GSP to fight. The co-main event is a bout between former Heavyweight champ, Frank Mir against the number one contender, Shane Carwin. The original bout was supposed to be Carwin against Lesnar, but due to Lesnar’s health issues that fight was put off and an interim belt created so that the winner of this fight will fight Lesnar to unify the belts. I am personally extremely excited about this fight as the UFC heavyweight division is probably the best it has been in a long time. With Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, Shane Carwin, Junior Dos Santos, and Cain Velasquez all filling out the upper echelon of fighters in the division, the next few years should be very entertaining.

Here are the picks:

Main Bouts:

Georges St-Pierre (19-2) -800 vs. Dan Hardy (23-6) +550

A little hard to be unbiased here as GSP is undoubtedly my favourite fighter, but there is really no way I see him losing this fight. Many people will bring up the fact that GSP was knocked out by Matt Serra and Hardy is known as a striker, I think this point is really a stretch. While Hardy does have a polished striking game, he is not known for his knockout power. GSP will have monstrous advantages on the ground, in the wrestling department and arguably in the stand up. GSP had no problem striking with BJ Penn and Thiago Alves who are both arguably better at the stand up then Hardy. This leaves Hardy
with no way to win the fight. Barring an absolute miracle, I’ll take GSP by submission in round 2.

Frank Mir (13-4) -170 vs. Shane Carwin (11-0) +140

Great matchmaking by the UFC here to put together this fight. Mir is a large heavyweight with improved striking and a vicious ground game. Carwin is man that cuts weight to make 265 and has shown tremendous power in his hands. This should really be a clash of styles. If the fight gets to the ground the advantage has to be to Mir, but in the stand up department I would give the edge to Carwin. It should be noted that Gonzaga had Carwin rocked before Carwin put him away with one punch, and this defence may encourage Mir to stand and bang with him. This fight will come down to where it takes place, on the ground or standing up. Ill take the upset here, Shane Carwin TKO round 1.

Kurt Pellegrino (14-4) -265 vs. Fabricio Camoes (10-4-1) +205

I’m a big fan of Camoes. He fought the always game Caol Uno to a draw at UFC 106, Ill take the upset here again. Camoes by decision.

Jon Fitch (21-3) -525 vs. Ben Saunders (8-1-2) +325

Saunders is a replacement for the injured Thiago Alves. He is taking this fight on a few days notice. For those of you looking for some value a small bet on Saunders could pay off. He is a very tall welterweight with a very strong Muay Thai background. He has shown the ability to finish fights in the clinch. That being said the safe money is on Fitch who is the consensus number 2 welterweight in the world. Ill take Fitch by decision.

Fortunately, GSP has played it smart thus far and and does not have a wife, or girlfriend, to answer to. Although something tells me that even if he did, he would be able to defend himself from her a lot better than Tiger was capable of.

So as proof of his big pimpin’ abilities, we have this interesting video showcasing GSP’s encounters with the ladies as well as some of his discussions regarding members of the opposite sex. If jealousy is an issue for you, perhaps it is best you don’t watch this at all.

Everyone remembers Kanye West punking Taylor Swift at the VMAs, but what really took the nation by storm were the ridiculous spin-offs created online with photoshop and video editing. For instance, this one with Kanye and Roger Federer is classic. It seems like it will never get old, with new creative re-cut versions of Kanye dissing Swift on air coming out all the time.

This video is no exception. Here’s a quick background if you somehow missed the craziness of the VMAs. Taylor Swift won the award for Best Female Video. Most people had thought Beyonce was going to win it, but Swift pulled off the upset. She seems like a sweet girl and no one really begrudged her the victory. No one but Kanye. He raced up on stage and told her she was great, but she didn’t deserve the award, Beyonce did.

This parody video. Georges St. Pierre fills in for Kanye, telling Swift that she won the fight and fought well, but he can’t wait to fight her. The implication was that GSP, a beast of a human being, would pummel Taylor Swift, a skinny young girl. I’m not sure if he is trying to send a message about wrestling for Canada in the 2012 Olympics or not. Either way, due to a halfway decent cut of the video, it almost looks like GSP is actually on the stage saying those things. The combination of Taylor Swift, country music star, and GSP, MMA champion, is entertaining to say the least.

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has single-handily put Canada on the MMA map, but in 2012 he will be aiming to do even more for his country at the Summer Games in London, England.

The native of Saint-Isidore, Quebec has dominated his weight class in the octagon for the past couple of years and he is hoping to do the same on the wrestling mat in the 74 kg division. The only problem remains that Canada is already well stocked at that weight class. His competition may include the likes of Matt Gentry, and NCAA champion for Stanford University who represented Canada at the 2008 Games, and Evan McDonald, who is currently ranked atop the Canadian contingent. However, Gentry still feels the addition of St-Pierre may be a good one for Canada’s medal hopes in London.

“Evan McDonald is the number one guy in Canada at that weight. If St. Pierre comes in, there’s going to be a lot of depth at that weight,” Gentry told Cagewriter. “That kind of depth is only going to make our country better. It will make the representative who ends up competing more tested, and they’ll have to work harder to earn that spot, which will pay off in the long run.” [Cage Fighter]

Whatever the case may be, if St-Pierre does decide to go through with these plans, it may mean putting his UFC career on hold as making the Canadian Olympic team is a long process that can be quite demanding, both on his body and on his schedule. However, if there is anyone with the work ethic, training regimen, determination, and athletic ability needed to succeed in such an endeavour, GSP may be that guy.

But until then, expect St-Pierre’s main focus to be on his next challenger, Dan Hardy.

Penn has made a name for himself in the MMA world as a result of his incredible athleticism, as well as his whining at times. After all, the nickname “the Prodigy” doesn’t get thrown around to just anyone.

Penn displayed some of that athleticism recently during a day at the pool. With the three foot shallow end clearly marked, he squats down, takes a moment, then leaps right out of the pool. It is a pretty incredible accomplishment, and one that not many can do. In fact, a member of his crew states that he is only the third person in the world to do such a thing. I believe Jarron Gilbert is another, as proven by this video evidence.

So what’s next for BJ? A title defense against Kenny Florian at UFC 101. But until then, we suggest he straps oin a pair of flip-flops and attempts to jump into the back of a pick-up truck, like Keith Eloi. Maybe Penn should have considered jumping out of the octagon like that last time he was in there with Georges St. Pierre.
