However, the third greatest catch from last night’s Derby was not too shabby either. It was made by one of the many youngsters working the outfield, as he laid out to make an incredible diving grab on Robinson Cano’s final out of the first round.

The catch was great kid, but the ensuing celebration was a little excessive. Next time try acting like you’ve done it a million times before. Not like you just made the luckiest catch of your life.

If there was ever a question as to whether or not chicks actually do “dig the long ball,” the above image should help settle that debate. But one question still remains: Who has the better view in this case?

Would it be the sexy female in the yellow bikini, who had the opportunity to watch home run balls off the bats of Robinson Cano and Adrian Gonzalez soar over her head as she stood along the outfield railing at Chase Field last night? Or would it be every man who takes a look at this pic and sees the gorgeous rear and sexy tattoo of a beautiful young blonde?

My vote is for the latter.

Not exactly.

Those who were watching Price Fielder’s second round of the State Farm Home Run Derby last night may have noticed one man nearly falling over the outfield railing at Chase Field. The man was said to be standing on a table attempting to catch a ball during the event when he nearly fell over the railing and onto the ground several feet below. Fortunately for him, his brother and some friends were ready to make a life saving catch, grabbing him by his arms and legs in an effort to prevent him from taking the disastrous plunge.

Most will tell you that the man jumping into the pool was the best catch from last night’s Derby. I, on the other hand, would argue that that title belongs to the four men who saved a life last night at Chase Field.

Not only did he make the catch on the Adrian Gonzalez home run ball, but he did so with a full glass of beer in his hand and ended up in a pool full of bombshells in bikinis. One of those beautiful babes was even kind enough to give him a hand with his beer while he resurfaced from beneath the water and raised his glove in glory.

Does it get any better than this? I didn’t think so.

After hitting a solid eight homers in the opening round, second to only the Adrian Gonzalez’s nine, the Yankees’ second baseman hit twelve in the second round. His two round total of 20 was good enough to move him into the finals against Gonzalez, thus setting up an epic Yankees vs. Red Sox battle for the Derby crown.

After Gonzalez opened up the finals with an impressive 11 home runs, Cano knew he had his work cut out for him, but he made it look easy, hitting twelve with four outs to spare. That gave him his first ever Home Run Derby title and the “Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, July 11, 2011.

Here is a look at Cano’s title-clinching home run.

It’s not unusual for ESPN talking heads to make boneheaded comments. In fact, it’s probably the norm. But we were taken by surprise when former Mets manager Bobby Valentine made a huge goof during ESPN’s telecast of the 2010 Home Run Derby.

So yeah, that’s DAVID Ortiz, not Jose. You know, all those Hispanic guys look alike and they’re all named Jose, right? Bobby V at least picked the right winner even if he didn’t get his name right. Ortiz went on to win the Home Run Derby.

“Big Papi” has turned around his season after a really slow start, and hit the All-Star break with 18 homers. Ortiz was great throughout the competition with 8 home runs in the first round, 13 home runs in the second round and then 11 in the last round to beat Florida Marlin Hanley Ramirez, who we assume Bobby V calls ‘Jose Ramirez’. Big Papi jacked 32 bombs in the derby, good enough for 3rd on the all-time list behind Bobby Abreu (41) and Josh Hamilton (35).

Bobby V may mix up the Latin players names, but I know one Latina whose name he would never get wrong: Elizabeth Mendez.

Due to his huge bat, Ortiz was invited to take part in the Home Run Derby. He has participated in the past with very little success, but this year was different. Ortiz looked strong in each round. He hit 8 home runs in the first round, 13 home runs in the second round, and 11 in the final round to overcome Hanley Ramirez and the rest of the field. His combined total was 12,975 feet worth of home runs, which is about 2.5 miles worth. Also, his 32 home runs ranks him 3rd on the all-time list for most total homers in one derby behind Abreu’s 41 and Hamilton’s 35.

The Red Sox are 3rd in a 3-horse race for the top of the AL East right now. After the break they play a tough schedule but they will not be able to take any games off. Ortiz’s hot power bat will have to be clicking on all cylinders for them to make the playoffs. If his Derby performance is any indication, though, that should not be a problem. Oh, and he grabs “The Stat Line of the Night” for last night.

The TPS crew was out enjoying a Thursday night at Wegz Stadium Bar in Maple, Ontario, and during our time there we often take a moment to read the ticker for the latest updates in the sporting world. While doing so, we noticed a rather odd comment made following the score between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds:

“Prince Fielder Smashes Three-run Jack Off Homer Bailey In Third Inning”

We understand what the phrase is intended to say, but you would think that those who post such things up on the ticker would re-read the phrase out loud to themselves. Well I guess that wasn’t the case, but heck, there is nothing wrong with hitting a “jack off homer” these days.

I would expect more of those to be hit at Dodger Stadium while Denise Milani is in the crowd. What better way to flatter such a woman than by showing off such a powerful stroke.

Besides a little bruise, the chin of television’s hottest sports reporter seemed as good as ever. We will suspect that makeup was used to aid in covering it up, but with no structural damage, everyone is a winner. I guess they will not need to resort to the “Erin Andrews Butt Cam” on a full-time basis just yet.

So it seems for now that the likes of Heidi Watney and Lauren Brooke Thompson will have to wait before taking Erin’s throne. They are once again only a foul ball away.

Fielder not only hit the most home runs throughout the competition, but he also hit the longest. That one soared a total distance of 503 feet, traveling well over the fence in right-center field. For good measures he also hit the second londest ball of the night a total of 497 feet. At the end of the night, Fielder launcher 23 homers an average distance of 439 feet, earning himself the championship as well as “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Monday, July 13th, 2009.

Now we will see if Prince Fielder translates last night’s performance into a strong second half of the season. He currently sits at 22 total home runs, but will hope that the derby jinx does not fall over him. With the Milwaukee Brewers sitting just 2.5 games back of top spot in the NL Central, a drop in Fielder’s production is not something they can afford to see.
