Talk about confidence! Midland, Texas resident Chris Brown certainly seems to have a lot of it when it comes to his Houston Texans.

Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis may still be three months away, but that didn’t stop Chris from celebrating his Texans’ championship a little early, as he headed out to the local tattoo parlor and had the above image permanently inscribed on his forearm.

The Texans are currently sitting at the top of the AFC South with a 5-3 record and they have won their last two games. That run of success it what likely instilled such a strong sense of confidence in Chris. But while the Texans have successfully built a team that could find itself raising the Lombardi Trophy sometime in the near future, Chris’ best bet may have been to wait until that day comes before adding in those roman numerals.

Following a Kerry Collins sack, the Texans’ Antonio Smith found himself tied up with a member of the Titans. Looking to play peacekeeper, Brian Cushing quickly intervened, grabbing his teammate and pushing him away. However, that did not sit too well with Smith, who could be seen jawing with Cushing before ripping off the linebacker’s helmet. Oddly enough, the officials did not see Smith remove his teammate’s helmet and flagged Cushing for removing his own helmet on the field of play, because in their eyes a player tearing the helmet off his teammate’s head is just to hard to believe.

With the Texans down early, Matt Schaub was forced to pass often and a majority of the time he was looking Andre’s way, completing a total of nine passes to his favorite target for 140 yards and two touchdowns. One of those touchdowns came late in the fourth quarter and helped the Texans tie the game up after trailing by 21 points in the third quarter. However, it would end up being all for naught as the Ravens’ Josh Wilson stepped in front of a Schaub pass in overtime and took it to the end zone for six points and the 34-28 victory. But despite his team coming up short on the scoreboard, Andre Johnson is still our choice for “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, December 13, 2010.

During yesterday afternoon’s game between the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans, Andre Johnson became the latest player to find himself on the receiving end of Finnegan’s antics, but unlike many before him, he was not about to stand around and take it.

With the Texans leading 17-0 midway through the fourth quarter, tempers flared between Johnson and Finnegan during a 3rd & 8 play. After tearing each others’ helmets off, Johnson landed two blows to the head of Finnegan before they were separated. Another scuffle between several players from both teams immediately ensued until the officials were finally able to restore order.

Both Johnson and Finnegan were ejected from the game, and there is definitely a possibility that one, or both, could receive a suspension from Commissioner Roger Goodell. Here is a look at the incident.

With only three seconds left on the clock in a 24-24 tie game between the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars, it appeared as though these two teams were headed to overtime. However, the Jags still had one more prayer left in them. That prayer was a Hail Mary attempt into the end zone by David Garrard, which was batted down by the Texans’ Glover Quin, and into the hands of Jaguars’ wide receiver Mike Thomas for what may very well be the play of the year and the wildest finish from the 2010 NFL season.

And who better to make the call on such a play than the always exuberant Gus Johnson. Here is a look at the play that everyone will be talking about for a while.

P.S. We should also note that the Jaguars were handed a penalty following this touchdown for excessive celebration. How do they expect a team to celebrate a game winning Hail Mary conversion?

Rivers was extremely effective and efficient, as he has been much of the year. He threw 23 times and completed 17 of those passes. Rookie Seyi Ajirotutu caught 4 of those passes for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns. Rivers himself threw for 295 yards. He also threw 4 touchdowns and just one interception. His passer rating was 137.2. The biggest touchdown of the game came with just 5:23 seconds left in the 4th which gave the Chargers the lead for good. A two point conversion extended that lead to 6, which would hold up to give them the 29-23 victory.

The Chargers are just 4-5 this year, even after the win. They dug a hole for themselves early in the season and will have to continue to claw their way out of it to make the playoffs. With Rivers leading the charge, they have a good shot, but injuries and mistakes have to be limited, as there isn’t much room for error. For now, Rivers secures “The Stat Line of the Night”.

While serving a four game suspension, which was handed down to him by the NFL after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, Texans’ linebacker Brian Cushing has had a few extra weeks to train for the 2010 season. And it appears as though all that extra training has added four inches to his vertical.

The 2009 Defensive Rookie of the Year claimed that the unusually high levels of hCg found in his blood was produced naturally by his body because of his extensive workouts. Whether it be heavy workloads or steroids, all I know is that whatever Cushing is doing, it appears to be working.

Mike Shanahan has made a name for himself around NFL circles for his tendency to “ice kickers.” He has done it on several occasions before, and the league has even had to insert a rule to disallow coaches from calling two consecutive timeouts before kick attempts because of him.

So it was interesting to see Shanahan’s own tactic come back to bite him in the ass during the Redskins’ game against the Texans on Sunday.

With the game tied 27-27 in overtime, the Redskins drove the ball to the Houston 35-yard line, and faced with a decision on 4th & 7, coach Mike Shanahan decided to send out kicker Graham Gano for a 52-yard field goal attempt. Gano’s first attempt was good, soaring right between the pipes, but the celebration was short-lived as the referee’s whistle blew the play dead after Texans’ coach Gary Kubiak had called a timeout from the sidelines. Gano’s next attempt would sail wide right and the Texans would take their next drive down to the Redskins’ 17-yard line and win the game on a Neil Rackers 35-yard field goal.

It was an amazing come-from-behind win for the Texans, which is bound to have people asking, “did Mike Shanahan just get Shanahaned?” Take a look and judge for yourself.
