“Fans getting a little fired up before this one.”

That was how The Score described it during their highlight package of Roma’s 2-0 victory over Lazio on Sunday.  I probably would have gone with either, “Fans of both teams came into this one with rather high expectations,” or “Both teams were looking for an early spark,” but no matter how you want to describe it, that kid is smoking a joint in the Stadio Olimpico.  It doesn’t take a creative mind to figure that out .

Whether the cameraman knew what he was filming is anyone’s guess, but this certainly wouldn’t be the first time one of them got caught with their eye on the prize.

You can catch the fan “gettin’ a little high” at the 8 second mark of the clip.  I would also advise watching the rest of the highlights if you are a fan of red cards, face stomps (0:40 mark), laser shows (0:29 mark), and plenty of other rough stuff.

The Indianapolis Colts had their chance at a perfect season, and foolishly let it slip away.  With only two games remaining, it seemed as though 16-0 was a forgone conclusion, but with Indy up 16-10 in the third quarter Sunday afternoon at home against the New York Jets, coach Jim Caldwell decided to sacrifice perfection for the health of his team.

It was enough to make you ask yourself, “what exactly were they smoking on the Indianapolis sidelines.”

For the answer to that question, we need not look any further than this still frame of Colts guard Ryan Lilja watching the action from the bench.  Maybe he was saving that joint for the post-game celebration.  After all, he wouldn’t have been the first athlete to celebrate perfection by getting a little high.

Unfortunately for him, and the rest of the Colts players and fans, they would eventually surrender the lead and fall to the Jets by a score of 29-15.  With the loss, their first of the season, you can expect the debate to begin on whether Caldwell had pulled his stars from the game too early, thus jeopardizing their shot at a place in the history books.

And Caldwell will not be the only one having to answer questions.  Lilja may find himself doing the same over the next few days.  Hopefully he took the time during the post-game handshakes to ask Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez for a few pointers on how to answer questions regarding sideline mischief.

The Western Canadian city is known for its marijuana indulging community, which is what makes the shape of the torch all the more ironic.  While it is unlikely any changes will be made to it, we expect this to receive some attention throughout the Torch Relay, which begins October 22, 2009 in Athens, Greece.

“A lot of people come to Vancouver because it’s marijuana-friendly, so I think people who already enjoy a joint themselves will feel a little more kinship to the Olympics,” said Emery, who ran as a Green party candidate in the provincial election this month.

“I’m sure the organizers didn’t intend for it to look like a joint, but that’s what a lot of people are seeing.” [TorontoStar]

It is doubtful the torch will be hijacked by any pot heads or Michael Phelps along its trip through Canada, but we are hoping to see some cool pics of stoners taking some puffs out of the over-sized dube.  Or maybe this is all just in my head, and pretty much every Olympic torch can be said to look like a joint.  But for now, I know what I see.
