Joe Flacco threw for 307 passing yards and three touchdowns as the Ravens offense amassed a total of 501 yards and helped defeat the Cheifs by a score of 38-24. While this does represent a rather significant shift in the Baltimore Ravens’ mindset, which has largely focused on a strong defense and running game in recent years, we are bringing you this story for other, more interesting reasons.

Prior to Sundays’ battle at M&T Bank Stadium, ESPN analysts Keyshawn Johnson and Cris Carter had some rather demeaning things to say about the Ravens’ offense, and their quarterback Joe Flacco, in particular. The players were especially angry with Keyshawn’s comments regarding Flacco, when he stated ““You want a bum, you pay a bum.” Now it is Johnson and Carter’s turn to eat their words and Derrick Mason was more than happy to feed it to them.

“Keyshawn Johnson is the bum, that’s why he’s in the analyst seat,” said Mason after catching four passes for 47 yards against Kansas City. “He tried to come back to football but no one would sign him. He was never that good a player. He got lucky and signed on in Tampa Bay and won a Super Bowl because they had a great defense.

“Just look at the two people doing the criticizing, that’s all I’m saying. Keyshawn was overrated and Carter is in the same boat I’m in. He doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring either. He’s in the analyst seat without a ring. At least I’m playing. He still wants to play but he can’t anymore. We’re the bums? That’s why you’re in the analyst seat. Just be quiet and keep dreaming you still could play.” [CBSSports.com]

I can’t help but agree with Mason on this one. After all, how can Johnson and Carter be so critical of Flacco when in only one season he was able to take the Ravens to the AFC Championship game? Maybe they figured the sophomore jinx would kick in, but they really should have taken a look at his NFL Fantasy Files clip. That likely would have saved them this embarrassment. Instead, they are left to look like the ass clowns that they truly are.

As for Flacco, should he continue to develop into an elite NFL quarterback and the Ravens continue to produce a top level defense, it may not be long before he accumulates more rings than both Cris Carter and Keyshawn Johnson combined.

Hat Tip – [CBSSports.com]
