It is only two weeks into the 2010 Fantasy Football season, but already some owners are prepared to hit the panic button. While a trade is never a bad idea (if it makes sense), your best bet to improve your roster is always through the waiver wire. Sure your top players may not be producing at the same level you had expected them to when you drafted them, but it is only two games! Even the best players in the world can have two quiet games in a row (see Drew Brees).

So don’t hit the panic button just yet. Take a look at the waiver wire, and if any of these guys are available, pick them up. And if that doesn’t work, then maybe it is about time to seek out a trade.

Josh Freeman, QB, TB – Freeman may not put up remarkable yardage totals, he has shown the ability to work the ball down the field and get it into the end zone when needed. Freeman threw for an impressive two touchdowns against a strong Panthers’ secondary and although he faces a tough Steelers defense in week three (and therefore should not be started in any league), he can be a solid addition to any team looking for depth at quarterback.

Jason Snelling, RB, ATL – Anyone who watched the Falcons throttle the Cardinals may have noticed that Michael Turner no longer looks like “The Burner” we once knew him as. Coming into the 2010 season, word out of the Falcons camp was that Turner had regained his breakaway speed, but that assessment looks to be far from the truth after the first two weeks of the season. And to make matters worse, now he has a groin injury to worry about. While we are not ready to completely abandon hope in Turner, we do suggest that you keep a close eye on this situation and pick up Snelling in the meantime. He racked up 186 yards and three touchdowns in place of Turner on Sunday, and it may not be the last you see of him.

Demaryius Thomas, WR, DEN – When the Broncos drafted Thomas in the first round of the 2010 draft, they were hoping they had their replacement for Brandon Marshall. After sitting out the first game of the season with an injury, Thomas returned in week two and upon first glance it appears as though the Broncos got exactly what they were looking for. The rookie our of Georgia Tech recorded 8 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks, and while it would be a little far fetched to expect such totals on a regular basis, he should be able to produce some strong stats against favorable opponents on a Broncos team that appears committed to the pass.

Lance Moore, WR, NO – Which New Orleans player will benefit the most from Reggie Bush’s injury? Most would probably assume the answer to this question is Pierre Thomas, but I would argue that it may in fact be Lance Moore. Moore has been an afterthought in fantasy circles for the past couple of seasons, but in 2008 he was a key factor in the Saints’ offense, recording 79 catches for 928 yards and 10 touchdowns. So what does that have to do with Bush being injured? During that season, Moore filled in for an injured Bush on much of the short yardage passing plays. If Moore ends up filling in for Bush once again, he could develop into one of the best sleeper pickups off waivers this season.

Tony Moeaki, TE, KC – It is tough to rely on any fantasy player that relies on Matt Cassel to throw him the ball, but Moeaki may be an exception. If there was any doubt about his three receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown in week one, he answered them with another solid five receptions for 58 yards in week two. Not stunning numbers, but solid production for any fantasy tight end. If you are in need of some help at that position, Moeaki is your man.

There are no superstars available but some of these guys could fit in nicely as possession receivers and others fill the need for 3rd and 4th spots in the receiving corps.

Let’s take a look at what receivers are available.

1. T.J. Houshmandzadeh: T.J. has been great for the Bengals offense for many years now, he has been the perfect compliment to Chad Johnson and if he decides to test his value on the market will likely make his future offensive coordinator happy. A very talented possession receiver that can pick up key first downs and runs great short and intermediate routes. Plays with great energy, a fierce competitor, with a very good set of hands.

TPS Prediction: TJ wants out of Cincinnati, and it is unlikely that the Bengals will franchise him, but his future in Cinci is tied to Chad Johnson’s future. The Bengals can’t afford to lose them both. TJ will likely finish his career for a contender like Indy, Tennessee, or NYG. He wants to win, to be a number one receiver, and get paid. He should realize two of those three dreams this off-season, but won’t get them all.

2. Antonio Bryant: Bryant had a sensational year for the Buccaneers, undoubtedly the best season in his career. Bryant finished 2008 with 83 catches for 1248 yards and 7 touchdowns, he was the Buccaneers’ leading receiver and continuously made big plays for the offense. A troubled start to his career seems to be a faded memory with the numbers he put up this year, the 27 year old brings good speed and big play making ability to any roster he joins. A solid No. 2 receiver that can take pressure off a go-to guy, Bryant proved he is an elite wide receiver when he is focused.

TPS Prediction: Bryant has the skills to be a number one receiver in the NFL, and may surprise some with the offers he will command. His checkered past may keep the number of interested teams to a minimum, but those few teams should be willing to open up the check book. He should go to a rebuilding team with plenty of cap space like Chicago or Kansas City, and should be the focal point of the passing game.

3. Devery Henderson: Henderson had his best season as a pro, catching 32 passes for 793 yards and 3 touchdowns. The speedy wide receiver still has yet to reach his full potential, the receiving yards are good but I’m sure he would like his touchdown totals to be better. Henderson may garner some attention from other teams, with the emergence of Lance Moore, Henderson may become expendable. Henderson has big play potential, in 3 years he has surpassed the 20 yards per catch mark in every year.

TPS Prediction: Henderson is a role player with speed, and does not possess the skills needed to play the number one or two receiver spot for most teams. He was in the perfect situation in N.O. and will need to land on a three or four wide offense in need of speed like Detroit, NYJ, or St. Louis. Unfortunately for him, the draft is full of younger Devrey Henderson’s. He will not “cash in”, but should still find a home in ’09.

4. Lance Moore: Lance Moore was emerged as the Saints No. 1 receiver, he did it at the right time as he is now a restricted free agent. The Saints are probably going to keep Moore around after he became Drew Brees’ favorite target, combining for 79 receptions, 928 yards and 10 touchdowns. It is difficult to know if Moore can repeat his amazing season, but should he be able to, the Saints can feature a very potent passing attack next season.

TPS Prediction: Moore is an excellent slot receiver, in that wide open offense, and can play the ”x” when needed. The Saints need to sign Moore to keep some continuity in that offense, especially if Henderson is not re-signed. The problem with slot guys in free agency has always been that someone is usually willing to overpay. He will get more than he is worth no matter who signs him, which will likely be the Saints.

Notable Wide Receivers:

Hank Baskett, Nate Washington, Bryant Johnson, Amani Toomer, Bobby Engram, Shaun McDonald, Ashley Lelie, Brandon Lloyd, Justin McCareins, Malcolm Floyd, Darrell Jackson, Demetrius Williams, Brandon Jones, Mike Furrey
