I think that because the Jags have played good football, prior to last season, they have been exempt from draft related ridicule. Not anymore.

This off season, the Jags have parted ways with some players who were once high draft picks and now they have some big holes in their roster to fill.

lets take a look at some of the Jacksonville Jaguars biggest first round busts:

Byron Leftwich, 2003, #7,

Coming out of Marshall, Leftwich looked to have all the tools to be a successful NFL QB, that all changed a couple of years later when the Jags released him. Leftwich recently signed on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has a chance to be the starter. I think that Byron is a serviceable quarterback, but he will never be a star.

Reggie Williams, 2004, #9

Williams looked the second coming of Terrell Owens when he was drafted into the NFL. He was big, fast, and had great hands. After a couple of years in the league, he has fallen out of favor with the Jags and remains an unsigned free agent.

Matt Jones, 2005, #21

Poor Matt Jones, the former college star has fallen on hard times recently, since his days at Arkansas. Jones’ performance at the combine boosted his draft status as a can’t miss pro-prospect, but he never really panned out. The final straw for Jones’ career were his two drug-related arrests.

Marcedes Lewis, 2006, #28

Marcedes Lewis has done very little since being drafted out of UCLA. He has only totaled 5 touchdowns in his career. However, during the second half of last year he started to pick up his play, so there might be some hope for this guy. At least he is still on the team.

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Williams was arrested in Houston on Sunday night.

“Williams was arrested in Houston on Sunday night for felony possession of a controlled substance, which is believed to have been cocaine. Williams reportedly was Tasered in the process of being arrested. On February 27, Williams was arrested for DUI and marijuana possession.”

Tasered and arrested, not an ideal way to spend a Sunday night. If you were the GM of an NFL franchise would you take a chance on either of these guys?

1. Matt Jones

This former college quarterback was once viewed as a top prospect coming out of the draft. His combination of size (6’6) and speed displayed at the combine had teams drooling over his pro potential, its too bad he hasn’t lived up to the hype. The emergence of Reggie Williams last season as a red zone target and free agent acquisition Jerry Port means that Matt will have a limited opportunity for success.

2. Micheal Jenkins

Jenkins was once so highly regarded by the Falcon that they actually burned a first round pick on this guy (29th overall). He has never proved that he deserved to be picked so high as he is yet to breakout and have a 1,000 season. The Falcons seem to have found a number 1 WR in Roddy White, and Laurent Robinson looks good going into his second year so Jenkins could be the odd man out.

3. Mark Clayton

Clayton is another first round bust from the now infamous 2005 draft, which included Troy Williamson, Mike Williams and also Matt Jones. Clayton also has the unfortunate luck of playing for the Baltimore Ravens who appear unsure as to who their starting QB will be on opening day. Avoid Clayton when draft day comes and your team will be better for it.

4. Muhsin Muhammed

Muhhammed was once a solid fantasy wide receiver, not anymore. He is simply too old and too slow to play a position that demands speed and quickness. His last good fantasy season was in 2004 when he was a member of the Carolina Panthers. Even though he has been reunited with his old pal Steve Smith, he still won’t have enough of an impact to give your team any help.

5. Javon Walker

Walker is the only player listed here who has the potential to have a good season if he is physically able to play. There are two things that are holding him back one is that he has a broken jaw and orbital bone, the other is that he plays for the Oakland Raiders. If you think that Walker will have a good season then daft him, but make sure he is buried on your bench and not in your starting lineup.

Honorable mention: Joe Horn, Drew Bennett, Chris Chambers
