In the wake of his Kardashian engagement/wedding/divorce, Kris Humphries has gone from NBA journeyman to household name, which just goes to show you that if you are blessed with only above-average and not superstar talents, you might want to consider dating or marrying a celebrity. They can boost your profile quicker and more predictably than any amount of gym time or hustle can, and they’re generally a lot hotter than a personal trainer or shooting coach.

So let’s all go out and get celebrity wives and get famous!

9. Kris Humphries

Let’s get this guy out of the way. Before he was known (briefly) as Mr. Kris Kardashian, he was known as a 26 year-old who had logged time with the Jazz, Ratpors, Nets, and Mavericks. Unfortunately, his stint with Kim K. didn’t prove to be more fruitful than any of his NBA stops. Can someone please find this guy a team or woman that’s willing to really commit to this guy? He seems nice enough. Too nice for Kim, anyway.

8. Rick Fox

Now, for celeb-betrothed Laker, I had to debate between Lamar Odom and Fox. I went with Fox ultimately because he was always better known for being a generic “Laker,” a handsome guy, and singer Vanessa Williams’ husband from 1999 until rumors of his infidelity surfaced in 2004. Fox has made a nice post-basketball career for himself as an Actor having appeared in everything from One Tree Hill to Jake and Amir skits to Oz.

He was a member of three championship Laker teams, so to say he’s without talent is very dismissive, but he certainly got a big boost from his celeb wife.

7. Hank Basket

Who? Oh, that’s right. Kendra Wilkinson’s (The Girls Next Door) husband. This NFL journeyman receiver has logged time with Minnesota, Indianapolis, and Philly. While he showed a promising start in his rookie year, he never really got a chance to prove himself and is currently a free agent with no contract. However, he’s managed to pop up on the cultural radar after marrying Hugh Hefner’s ex, Kendra Wilkinson. He is a co-star of his wife’s reality show Kendra, which I’m presuming helps pay the bills without an NFL contract. Here’s to hoping he can quit reality TV and get back to football soon.

6. Anna Kournikova

Sure, she was famous well before commencing her 10-year relationship with pop singer Enrique Iglesias, but it’s safe to say that the boost his visibility gave her as a celebrity far outweighs whatever notoriety her talent afforded her. She was known as a mediocre tennis player that happened to be hot. Now she’s known as a mediocre hot tennis player with a very famous boyfriend.

Now, she’s making a name for herself as a Miami socialite, which is far less impressive than “pro tennis player.”

Also, I’m aware that having a female entry here doesn’t exactly jive with the title of the piece, but I hope no one will get too confused.

5. Mike Comrie

Comrie’s relationship with Hilary Duff has been much more noted than his stints with (deep breath): Edmonton, Philly, Phoenix, Ottawa, the Islanders, and Pittsburgh. While he was a hometown hero when drafted by Edmonton, he quickly lost favor after a mediocre training camp and public contract holdout.

Fortunately, his career with Duff has been markedly more successful, after getting married to the actress/singer in August 2010, and announcing the same day that they were expecting a baby.

4. Sean Avery

To be fair, Avery is known far more for being a complete a**hole than he is for either dating Elisha Cuthbert or playing hockey. Sure, he’s a tenacious pest to contend with on the ice, but the fact remains that when he called out Flames defenseman for dating his ex, it was clear that Avery was more concerned with reminding the public that he dated someone famous than he was for exercising discretion or class.

3. Eric Johnson

Who? Eric Johnson has been out of the NFL for a few years now, having played for the 49ers and Saints as a tight end, but he’s gotten way more attention from his engagement to singer/actress/fashion designer Jessica Simpson than he did from leading a shoddy 2002 Niners squad in receiving. He and Jessica just announced on October 31, 2011 that they are expecting their first child. Let’s hope he, Jess, and the kid for a better team than the mid-2000’s 49ers.

2. Mike Fisher

While Mike Fisher has experienced a fair amount of success on the ice (enough to merit a $4 million/year contract from the Senators before being traded to Nashville), he’s wrestled with some knee injuries in the recent past, which have kept him from realizing his potential on the ice. Off the ice, he’s overachieved by marrying country-pop star Carrie Underwood. However, an Ottawa radio station stopped playing her music after he was traded to Nashville. The station later apologized for the action, and Mike Fisher got to bask in a little more fame a little longer.

1. Jason Sehorn

As a Giants cornerback, the most notable play Sehorn ever took part in was proposing to his wife, actress Angie Harmon on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He was a standout d-back at USC, and was drafted in the second round in 1994. For years he gained notoriety as the only white cornerback in the NFL, however, in 1997, he blew out both his ACL and MCL, hampering his speed in future seasons.

Again, he’s known more for his hot wife and being handsome than he was for his NFL prowess, but that’s still the hallmark of a pretty sweet life.

Last night the Vancouver Canucks made Carrie Underwood cry after eliminating the Nashville Predators from the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs.  For that, I can’t help but hate the entire Canucks organization.

Now that we will no longer get to see the gorgeous country music singer cheering for her husband, Mike Fisher, in the stands at Bridgestone Arena for the remainder of the playoffs, I can’t help but also shed a tear following the Preds elimination from the post-season.

Underwood’s beautiful face has become a fixture at Predators games ever since Fisher was sent to Nashville in a trade with the Ottawa Senators during the trade deadline.  Some might even say that her presence on the television screen every once in a while has made Nashville Predators’ games watchable.

Unfortunately, we must now bid adieu to this lovely hockey WAG.  Here is a look at Underwood during a much happier time, at the beginning of last night’s game.

Looking to take home-ice advantage away from the Ducks right off that bat, the Preds did just that, scoring the first four goals of the game.  Fisher would factor in on three of those goals, scoring the last two and adding an assist on the first to lead Nashville to the 4-1 victory and a 1-0 series lead.

With one of the league’s best goaltenders in Pekke Rinne between the pipes and plenty of depth throughout their roster, the Predators have the opportunity to turn some heads during the post-season. Nashville has had a tough time winning road games in previous playoff match-ups, but last night it appeared as though they were ready to put that problem behind them.  Mike Fisher figures to be a important part to the team’s success.  He was last night, and as a result, he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

The Sens were still in search of their first win and Mike Fisher helped them get it. Fisher scored his first goal of the evening late in the first period when he ripped one high and past goalie Cam Ward. That was his first goal of the season.

Fisher then scored his second goal of the game on a power play deep into the third period. That was the game-winning goal as the Senators beat Carolina 3-2, recording their first win of the season.

A consistent 20-25 goal scorer year in and year out, this might be the year Fisher reaches the 30 mark. He has The Stat Line of the Night for 10/14/10.

No longer feeling the need to hide from it, Carrie Underwood has not been afraid to show her love for Mike Fisher and his Ottawa Senators.  No matter where she is, be it at the Scotiabank Place or her latest concert appearance, she has not been shy to let everyone know that she is only the latest to join Hollywood’s puck bunny crew and attach herself to one of the NHL’s many bachelors.

Last night, during a concert appearance in Ottawa, Carrie sported a Senators jersey with Fisher’s No. 12 on the back, as her fiance watched from the 15th row.

And in case you were wondering, no, Fisher did not join her on stage for a song.  I guess she would have to be dating Alex Ovechkin to expect something like that.

The biggest loser in our NHL Power Rankings this week were the Atlanta Thrashers dropping 5 spots to end up at #22. The Thrashers will be looking for some consistency over the next few games as they’ve had a combination of a lot of good and a lot of bad weeks so far this season.

The biggest gainer in our NHL Power Rankings this week were the Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators both moving up 4 spots to land at #5 and #18 respectively. The Blackhawks are on a roll as they’re finally getting some consistent goaltending from Cristobal Huet and Antti Niemi while the Predators are finding some chemistry as all of their key players are finally healthy.

Lets take a look at the rest of the league: NHL POWER RANKINGS for week 8.

25		8-8-7	2	Rough week for the Islanders losing to the Wild and Blues. Help could be on the way however as Rick DiPietro has begun practicing.
26		8-8-4	-	The Blues’ young guns showed off some of their flash last week as both David Perron and T.J. Oshie scored highlight reel goals.
27		7-11-3	-	Are still looking to find their groove after winning just one of their three games last week.
28		8-12-2	-	Are hoping a shake up will lead to some wins as the team traded for Guillaume Latendresse from the Canadiens in exchange for Benoit Pouliot.
29		5-12-5	1	Were able to record back-to-back wins over the Maple Leafs and Lightning.
30		4-11-6	1	Although they were able to pull out a win over the Capitals the Leafs still had a rough week losing to the Senators and Hurricanes.

“Leave it to Don Cherry to associate car theft and National Hockey League players with one another.   On CBC, Don Cherry (Coaches Corner) had some harsh words for the last place Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning.  Cherry basically told all of Canada what he thinks about how hockey players should dress while going to the rink.”

“That night the Ottawa Senators were facing the Tampa Bay Lightning when Mike Fisher of Senators and Andrei Meszaros of the Lightning were walking into the rink wearing tuques, un-tucked shirts and no ties.  This is pretty concerning considering other leagues like the NBA enforce a strict dress code, more than the NHL does.”

It’s not surprising that Don Cherry had this to say about these two last place teams.  Fans, especially the young ones look up to these players as are role models and the least thing they should do is dress appropriately.  Considering they are making millions of dollars for playing in the NHL, there is really no excuse.

“Don Cherry called them thugs and they looked capable of stealing the hub caps off your car.  If this is the case, I’ll be sure to take public transportation to the rink next time I watch either of these teams play and I’m sure Don would urge you to as well.”

Just a word of advice to Carrie Underwood, make sure you have no vehicles that have expensive rims because Mike Fisher may steal them from you.

Last night Underwood was spotted in Nashville, Tennessee at the Sommet Center where the Ottawa Senators took on the Nashville Predators.  She was there in a private suite with Mike Fisher’s family watching here boyfriend beat the home town Predators 2-0.

At one point during the game the cameras spotted Carrie Underwood, as she heard her name she turned back to a television and ducked out of sight.  I guess she just wants to keep her personal life out of the spotlight, good luck with that.

In attendance was none other the country music superstar Carrie Underwood.  She was watching the game from a luxurious ACC suite while I was sitting in my nosebleed purple seats with some guy who didn’t stop yelling the whole game.

Miss Underwood was present at the game with the family of Senators forward Mike Fisher.  She was spotted at the ACC when the Hug cam pictured her on the scoreboard screen.  For any of you who don’t know what the hug cam is: periodically during TV timeouts the Leafs camera crew will scan through the crowd with the Hug or Kiss cam focusing on couples in the arena to either hug or kiss.  This time the hug cam was focused on Carrie Underwood who immediately hugged the 2 people sitting next to her.  Couldn’t that be me in the box when the hug cam came on?

After the game rumors began to swirl that Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher are dating.  There were no known confirmations, but why else was Carrie Underwood be in Toronto with Mike Fishers family in a luxury suite?

And yes the Leafs won 3-1.
