They may seem like kind furry creatures, but beneath the costume is often an angry, sweaty male just waiting to let out some aggression.

During halftime of Sunday’s game at the Metrodome between the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings, those who stayed in their seats were treated to one of the best displays of power running all day. And surprisingly, it came from someone other than Adrian Peterson. Instead, it was the University of Minnesota’s Goldy Gopher who was using stiff arms on opposing tacklers, sending the kids tumbling to the ground one at a time as he made his way towards the end zone.

Did I say kids? I sure did!

The Vikings give these young boys the opportunity to show off some of their skills in front of the thousands of fans in attendance each weekend. However, there was one college mascot in particular who was doing the impressing this time around, and he was showing a complete disregard for the well being of any possible tackler in the process.

And if all that was not enough, for some reason FOX announcer Dick Stockton seems to believe the Goldy Gopher was dressed as a bear, which he says is “very hard to figure out.” What is even more difficult to understand is why Stockton has such a difficult time identifying a gopher when he sees one.

Kansas Jayhawks vs Minnesota Golden Gophers

Insight Bowl Game Preview

The Kansas Jayhawks were in the Orange Bowl last year and were the eventual winners, beating Virginia Tech 24-21. This year they finished with a 7-5 record in the tough Big 12 and find themselves in the Insight Bowl. What a difference a year makes, the Minnesota Golden Gophers were on the opposite end of the spectrum last season, as they finished with a 1-11 record and left fans begging for answers. The Gophers also finished with a 7-5 mark, however, they started the season 7-1 and were ranked in the Top 25 until a 4 game losing streak that they will look to end in this bowl game.

Todd Reesing enjoyed alot of success this season breaking many of Kansas’ single season passing records, including completions, attempts, total yards and passing yards. Minnesota will have to get good quarterback play from Adam Weber, the Golden Gopher pivot struggled down the stretch and will need to regain his confidence if Minnesota wants to keep up with the explosive Jayhawks.

Insight Bowl Game Prediction

The Jayhawks have no doubt had the tougher schedule this season this can either hurt a football team or it can benefit it when preparing for a bowl game. We feel that the tough schedule will help the Jayhawks, 5 of their 12 games were played against once ranked opponents, they should be well prepared.

Insight Bowl Game Pick – Kansas Jayhawks (-7.5)

“I initially was looking to make a pass back to Krejci,” said Wheeler, tied with St. Louis’ Patrik Berglund for the NHL rookie goals lead with 11. “He kind of abandoned me. He went off for a change and the only thing I could do was react. There was a guy coming at me and I just kind of reacted. I got lucky.”

Blake Wheeler was drafted out of the University Of Minnesota Golden Gophers, by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1st round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. This is his first season playing in the NHL and is already off to a brilliant start for the first place Boston Bruins. In 33 games he has 11 goals and 9 assists for 20 total points.

We’ll just have to wait and see if the brilliance of this young rookie continues and the dominance of the Boston Bruins doesn’t slowly fade away.

Do you think the Coyotes are kicking themselves for not signing him to a contract now?

Check out the Video.
