But now something has, and apparently is may be more threatening than any competitor in the heavyweight division.

Lesnar was scheduled to defend his title against Shane Carwin at this weekend’s UFC 106, but a bout of mononucleosis put that on hold.  Now his health has taken another hit as he was recently hospitalized in Bismarck, North Dakota with a bacterial infection in his intestinal tract.  The illness is referred to as Diverticulitis, a common digestive disease found in the large intestines.  Diverticulitis results from another digestive disease, diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches outside the colon.  When those pouches become inflamed, Diverticulitis is the result.

This is considered to be quite the serious digestive disease and may require Lesnar to undergo surgery.  He is currently in stable condition and is expected to be released from the hospital soon, at which point UFC president Dana White will encourage him to check into the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn, for further treatment.

When asked about Lesnar’s possible return date to the Octagon, White replied: “It depends on how serious this is…There’s a possibility Lesnar will never fight again.”

That is terrible news for the UFC and its fans, who have recently been hit hard by a flurry of injuries, which include other champions like Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva, and Lyoto Machida.  This has become a serious issue for Dana White and the UFC, but the main priority at this current time is the health and safety of Brock Lesnar.

It may be his toughest fight yet, but we are all hoping Brock will continue his winning ways.
