According to reports, the wire that intercepted Josh Hadford during his flight through the air was supposed to be lowered prior to his jump.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t, causing Hadford to suffer a nasty fall that resulted in a broken leg, wrist, elbow and shoulder, and a year’s worth of nightmares for the children in attendance.

The incident occurred during the second lap of the Malaysian Grand Prix, as Simoncelli slid into the path of fellow racers Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi and was struck by their bikes, causing fatal head, neck and chest injuries.  He lay on the track motionless for several minutes before being taken to the circuit’s medical center, where he was pronounced dead.  The race was immediately called off following the accident.

Simoncelli was only 24-years-old, and the Italian rider was expected to develop into one of Moto GP’s top racers had his life not been taken from him during this seemingly unpreventable tragedy.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Simoncelli.  Here is a look at the fatal crash.

That no. 58 bike sure did get off to a hot start, although, most would probably argue that is was a little too hot for his liking.  Unfortunately for him, his chances of winning went up in flames, along with his bike.  Hopefully someone was able to find a fire extinguisher before his body suffered the same fate.

While riding his motorcycle just outside the Utah State University campus, Brandon was cut off by a black BMW, causing him to fall off his bike and slide under the car as his bike smashed into it.  With flames beginning to rise from the front end of the car, several construction workers, students and other individuals in the area came to the rescue, lifting the car and pulling Brandon’s limp body to safety before firefighters arrived on the scene.

Brandon was in critical condition immediately following the crash and was flown by helicopter to nearby Intermountain Medical Center, where he would undergo surgery on Monday night to repair a broken femur, broken tibia, broken pelvis and burns on both his feet.  He is said to be fully aware and alert and is expected to fully recover.

I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that this motorcycle racer probably didn’t intend on performing a handstand while his bike slides across the track upside down.  And while this odd maneuver looks awfully cool when captured in a still-frame by a camera, it probably didn’t feel all that cool when he landed on the hard asphalt seconds after the photo was taken.

Opting not to wear the protective gear (leather jacket, pants, etc.) while riding a motorcycle has always struck me as a rather moronic idea, but the above image may have influenced me just enough to change my perception on that.  After all, with that body and those legs that go for days, this girl could wear whatever she wants (including a pair of stilettos), and I wouldn’t have a single complaint.  How could I?

Here is a word of advice to all of you crotch-rocket riders out there.  If you happen to get hungry while zipping by cars and swerving in and out of lanes, a Big Mac combo and a milkshake from McDonalds may not be the smartest meal of choice.  The guy in the above photo would probably agree, although his dog seems to be enjoying the aftermath.

His donorcycle, on the other hand, wasn’t as fortunate.

In the following case, that motorized vehicle was a Suzuki GSX-R sport bike, which collided head-on with an oncoming bike that lost control while weaving in and out of a curvy road in Los Angeles known as “The Snake.”  The rider of the bike with the camera on board, who goes by the name of Johnny5, was alright following the accident, but judging by the footage below, we don’t assume the same to be true regarding his bike.

During the opening lap of the second 450 Class moto, Reed took the lead, only to lose control off a jump and crash 50 feet onto the ground below.  After remaining on the ground for a few minutes, he was able to get back up and fight his way back to 14th place out of 35 riders.  Thanks to that courageous effort, Reed would finish in 5th overall at the end of the event, helping him maintain his series points lead.
