Seemingly down and out following a Gaborik fake, Smith was somehow able to make a diving stick save to prevent the Rangers’ sniper from burying the puck in the empty net for the game-winning goal.  Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t do it a second time, as Gaborik scored in the shootout and the Rangers earned the victory.

But don’t let that stop you from appreciating Smith’s incredible save in overtime.  Is this the save of the year right now?

In addition to calling the game a battle for the “NFC Least title,” the animated Taiwanese news team also predicted that the Giants would win by virtue of a late comeback, and they would eventually get their butts kicked in the playoffs by the Green Bay Packers or the New Orleans Saints (as a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, I can’t help but be insulted by such a statement).

Doing the giving was Rangers forward Ryan Callahan, who swatted at an airborne puck along the boards.  As for the receiver, that would be Islanders forward Matt Moulson, who took said swatted puck square in the face.

A puck to the face may not seem like much of a gift, but for two crosstown rivals that clearly hate each other, I’d say it’s a good start.

During the first episode of HBO’s 24/7 Flyers/Rangers: Road to the NHL Winter Classic, Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov enlighten us all about the universe, Russian alcohol, tigers and Chinese laws.  This time around he is comparing his white Siberian Husky to a beautiful blond woman.  I guess he likes his women furry and on all fours.  I’d hate to hear what types of things he does with his pet when they are alone.

Bryzgalov was already having a difficult time getting someone to sit at the same table as him during team meals following his words of wisdom from the series’ first episode.  Something tells me that the Flyers goaltender could be eating lunch in his very own room by the time episode three airs next week.

From the moment he came off the bench and stepped onto the court, fans at MSG let Humphries know exactly how they feel about him, his reality television career, and his previous relationship with Kim Kardashian, as they booed him upon his entrance, as well as every time he touched the ball.  Luckily for him, he didn’t get his hands on the rock all that often during his 5:40 of playing time.   And oddly enough, when Humphries made his return to the bench, the fans at MSG couldn’t help but chant, “We Want Humph!”

It was a strange scene inside MSG, and something tells me that the Kardashian’s are somehow at the bottom of this.  Did they pay everyone in the building to give Humphries a hard time?  Perhaps, but I guess we’ll never know for sure.

During last night’s game between the New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers, Janssen thought he had Tim Erixon lined up along the boards for a big hit, but when the Rangers’ defenseman sidestepped the check at the last second, it caused the Devils’ enforcer to go crashing into his own bench at full speed.

Janssen spent the following five seconds trying to get his body right-side-up, as his legs dangled in the air while his head was buried between the legs of Devils’ captain Zach Parise.

The process of making the ice, putting the boards together, setting up the team’s respective benches, and everything else that goes into creating a suitable NHL hockey rink can take well over a month’s worth of work.  Thankfully, the people at NHL.com have condensed all of the work done thus far into a quick 54-second clip.

Unfortunately, the haven’t been able to put the boards up or create the ice as of yet.  Apparently, they have been having a difficult time getting Roy Halladay off the field as he prepares for the 2012 MLB season.

And in case you were wondering, we’re serious!  And we can prove it, thanks to the image below!

But before they got down to business for their game Monday night, the Nats’ veterans decided to have some fun with the rookies by dressing them up as Smurfs for their flight to the Big Apple on Sunday night.

Stephen Strasburg earned the honor of dressing up as Papa Smurf, while Wilson Ramos had to settle with playing the role of Smurfette.  And would you believe that the people in New York didn’t even find their outfits strange enough to turn some heads (according to the Nats commentators)?  I guess Smurf costumes simply aren’t enough to earn a double-take in the Big Apple these days.
