The Rams entered the game with the league’s most potent offense, but they were shut down by a solid Patriots’ defense and some great game planning from coach Bill Belichick. That allowed New England to enter the final quarter leading 17-3, but two Kurt Warner touchdowns (one passing and one rushing) would tie things up with only 1:30 left to play. That was just enough time for Pats’ quarterback Tom Brady to drive his offense down the field and set up kicker Adam Vinatieri for a 48-yard game-winning field goal, which he made with no time remaining on the clock.

Brady would be named the game’s MVP as he led the Patriots’ franchise to their first ever Super Bowl victory. They would record two more over the next three years, earning them the reputation as both “a dynasty” and “the team of the decade.”

Here is a look at the final 30 seconds of Super Bowl XXXVI.

The Detroit Lions came to the rescue once again, as an incredible second half comeback not only gave them the cover against the Dallas Cowboys, but it earned them the victory as well. That game, along with the Chargers’ rather easy victory over the Dolphins, helped us put up a 2-1 record last weekend and move our record for the year back to .500. With bye weeks upon us, there are less games to choose from, but we still believe there are plenty of good plays for all you gamblers out there.

Here they are.

Game: Oakland Raiders @ Houston Texans
Pick: Under 48
Reason: After struggling defensively last season, the Houston Texans have turned things around in a big way, as the addition of Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator, and Jonathan Joseph and Danieal Manning in the secondary have helped them lower their average points against per game to 17.5. With Andre Johnson out, the Texans will rely heavily on their running game, and the Raiders should do the same with Darren McFadden. That should keep the clock running and while their will be points, we don’t believe there will be enough to put this game over the total.

Game: Tennessee Titans @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Pick: Titans +3
Reason: The Titans have looked awfully impressive this season. After losing their opening week game to the Jacksonville Jaguars, they have beat the Ravens, Broncos and Browns in the last three weeks. Much of their success offensively has come through the air, as Matt Hasselbeck has helped revive the Titans passing game. As for the Steelers’ quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, he will be playing with a banged-up ankle, and he isn’t the only important member of Pittsburgh’s offense that is dealing with an injury. Rashard Mendenhall is expected to miss the game with a hamstring injury and the Steelers will also be without two of their starting offensive linemen. Look for the Titans to take advantage of these injuries as they get to Big Ben early and often, and come out of Pittsburgh with the win.

Game: New York Jets @ New England Patriots
Pick: Patriots -7
Reason: The last time the Patriots and Jets hooked up, Rex Ryan’s boys went to New England and shocked everyone with a 28-21 playoff victory. You can bet Bill Belichick will be out for revenge, and we believe he will get it. The Jets have not looked good this season, losing their last two games to the Raiders and the Ravens, each by double-digits. Their offense has looked terrible and their defense hasn’t been it’s usual dominant self. As for the Patriots, their defense has struggled mightily, but that isn’t much of a problem when your offense is putting up numbers like that have. Look for Brady to come out firing as he and Belichick will not only want to win this game, but they will want to make a statement as well.

Last Week’s Record: (2-1), 2011 Record: (5-5-2)

However, in the end she does come out swinging, giving herself one final chance at salvaging her pride. Hopefully the 49ers can follow suit with their playoff hopes still alive and two crucial upcoming games against the St. Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals remaining on their 2010 schedule.

Who is that evil interception-throwing monster playing quarterback in Indianapolis, and what has he done to Peyton Manning?

That is the question that many Colts fans and Manning fantasy football owners will be asking themselves after witnessing Peyton throw an abysmal four interceptions against a shoddy Cowboys secondary, including two that were returned for touchdowns and one that set up the game-winning field goal in overtime. That performance left Manning with a total of eleven interceptions in his last three games, and suddenly he has his owners wondering whether they can continue to rely on the Colts’ quarterback during the fantasy playoffs, if he hasn’t already screwed up their chances of making it in the first place.

The answer to that question is a difficult one. While Manning still ranks ahead of many other quarterback in the league in terms of fantasy value, he should no longer be considered a “must-start.” So when can you start Peyton and when should you sit him? That is a tough call. Upcoming match-ups against the Titans, Jaguars and Raiders are all favorable, but if he continues to throw more interceptions than touchdowns, you may be forced to opt for someone like Matt Cassel, Matt Ryan, or even his brother Eli.

Here is a look at what else happened during week thirteen in this edition of the TPS Monday NFL Fantasy Rewind.

Houston 24 at Philadelphia 34 - This game featured two players (Michael Vick and Arian Foster) that will guide plenty of teams to their fantasy championship.

New Orleans 34 at Cincinnati 30 – Now that is the Drew Brees that we are used to seeing.

Chicago 24 at Detroit 20 - With a 21-of-26, one touchdown, zero interception performance, is Jay Cutler shedding the reckless label?

San Francisco 16 at Green Bay 34 – It will be tough to stop Aaron Rodgers and the Packers at home in the frigid December weather at Lambeau.

Denver 6 at Kansas City 10 – After putting up 78 points in their first meeting of the season, these two teams managed to put up only 16 combined points the second time around.

Cleveland 13 at Miami 10 – Hit the panic button! Peyton Hillis failed to record a touchdown!

Buffalo 14 at Minnesota 38 -For a guy with a sprained ankle, Adrian Peterson looked pretty good out there.

Washington 7 at New York Giants 31 – It didn’t really matter who was starting at running back for the Giants in this game.

Jacksonville 17 at Tennessee 6 – Has Chris Johnson gone from a must-start to “un-startable”?

Oakland 28 at San Diego 13 – Just when we thought it was safe to count out the Oakland Raiders…

St. Louis 19 at Arizona 6 – All that so-called “hard work” from Derek Anderson has once again resulted in zero touchdowns.

Dallas 38 at Indianapolis 35 – I’m probably not the only one who was surprised to see the Cowboys defense produce like they did against the Colts offense.

Carolina 14 at Seattle 31 – The Panthers defense appears to be making a habit of giving up three touchdowns to the opposition’s starting running back.

Atlanta 28 at Tampa Bay 24 – That comeback victory should help some understand why the Falcons are currently the best team in the NFC.

Pittsburgh 13 at Baltimore 10 – Despite a broken nose, sprained foot and a slow start, Ben Roethlisberger found a way to get it done when his team needed him the most.

Your Fantasy team likely won if it looked something like this…

QB: Aaron Rodgers, GB – 298 yards, 3 TDs, 39 RuYds
RB: Adrian Peterson, MIN – 108 total yards, 3 TDs
RB: Marshawn Lynch, SEA – 100 total yards, 3 TDs
WR: Reggie Wayne, IND – 200 yards, 1 TD
WR: Greg Jennings, GB – 122 yards, 2 TDs
TE: Vernon Davis, SF - 126 yards, 1 TD
K: Josh Brown, STL – 4 FGs, 1 XP
DEF: Giants – 4 sack, 2 INTs, 4 DFRs, 7 PA, 338 TYdA

Your fantasy team likely lost if it looked something like this…

QB: Eli Manning, NYG – 161 yards, 1 INT
RB: Beanie Wells, ARI – 24 total yards
RB: Fred Jackson, BUF – 48 total yards
WR: Randy Moss, TEN – 13 yards
WR: Hines Ward, PIT – 12 yards
TE: Zach Miller, OAK – 5 yards
K: Graham Gano, WSH – 0 FGs, 1 XP
DEF: Redskins – 1 INT, 31 PA, 358 TYdA

Here is a look at some of the highlights from week thirteen…

It can be tough to make a decision between starting or sitting specific players throughout your fantasy football season based on favorable and/or tough match-ups.

TotalProSports.com is here to help you make such decisions with our weekly Start’em & Sit’em post where we will break down each position and give you some players you may want to consider starting, and some you might be better off sitting.

Quarterbacks

Start’em: Matt Cassel vs. DEN – Cassel has been the hottest quarterback in the NFL in recent weeks, recording ten touchdowns and zero interceptions in his last three games, including a four touchdown performance against the very same Broncos secondary that he will face off against this Sunday. With his recent string of success, Cassel is making it hard for owners to bench him, no matter what your other options look like.

Other QB start’ems worth noting: Kyle Orton vs. KC, Mark Sanchez vs. NE, Jay Cutler vs. DET

Sit’em: Carson Palmer vs. NO – Through eleven games Carson Palmer has recorded a respectable 19 touchdowns. However, he has also thrown a disappointing 15 interceptions. This week he finds himself up against a Saints secondary that has allowed only seven touchdowns through the air thus far this season. Look for a Palmer to have a quiet night as he deals with his loud disgruntled receivers.

Other QB sit’ems worth noting: Brett Favre vs. BUF, Joe Flacco vs. PIT, Donovan McNabb vs. NYG

Running Backs

Start’em: Matt Forte vs. DET – Matt Forte has been somewhat inconsistent this season, but he should be a solid fantasy option in week 13 against the same Lions defense that he torched in week one for 201 total yards and two touchdowns.

Other RB start’ems worth noting: Felix Jones vs. IND, Mike Tolbert vs. OAK, Toby Gerhart vs. BUF

Sit’em: Beanie Wells vs. STL – Despite being healthy again, Beanie Wells has continued to struggle. His lone bright spot against the 49ers came on a long pass play, but he was otherwise shut down and we expect the same to take place this weekend when the Cards take on a Rams defense that has allowed only five rushing touchdowns against through 11 games.

Other RB sit’ems worth noting: LeGarrette Blount vs. ATL, Brian Westbrook vs. GB, Ronnie Brown vs. CLE

Wide Receivers

Start’em: Steve Johnson vs. MIN – Here is an interesting fact for you. Since week seven, Steve Johnson has recorded over 100 yards in every other game. So coming off his seven catch, 68 yard performance last week against the Steelers, we should be able to expect him to rebound with a big effort this weekend against the Vikings. Johnson will want to put up a big performance following his costly drop in the end zone on Sunday. We think he gets it done this time around.

Other WR start’ems worth noting: Jeremy Maclin vs. HOU, Mario Manningham vs. WSH, Mike Williams vs. ATL

Sit’em: Chad Ochocinco vs. CIN – Much like we expect Carson Palmer to struggle against a talented Saints secondary, the same should be the case for Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens. The Saints have given up few touchdowns through the air. Don’t expect Ochocinco to break that trend.

Other WR sit’ems worth noting: Michael Crabtree vs. GB, Wes Welker vs. NYJ, Santana Moss vs. NYG

Tight Ends

Start’em: Marcedes Lewis vs. TEN – With few reliable fantasy options available at the tight end position, it is hard to bench Lewis, especially against a Titans team that has allowed the third most fantasy points to tight ends in the league.

Other TE start’ems worth noting: Jacob Tamme vs. DAL, Brent Celek vs. HOU, Kevin Boss vs. WSH

Sit’em: Chris Cooley vs. NYG – The Giants have allowed teams to have little success against them through the air. Look for them to shut down Cooley and the Redskins’ passing attack.

Other TE sit’ems worth noting: Todd Heap vs. PIT, Heath Miller vs. BAL, Greg Olsen vs. DET

Kickers

Start’em: Josh Brown vs. ARI – Brown was a sit’em last weekend, but now that he finds himself up against the Cards, who have allowed the most points against to opposing kickers, he is a must start.

Sit’em: Rob Bironas vs. JAC – While we do expect the Titans offense to bounce back after being shut out by the Houston Texans, we would advise against starting Bironas until we actually see it happen.

Defenses

Start’em: Bears vs. DET – The Bears’ defense has been one of the most underrated units in the NFL, and they should shine against a Lions offense that has struggled to run the ball and is expected to start Drew Stanton at quarterback.

Sit’em: 49ers vs. GB – The 49ers defense is strong against the run, but they are weak against the pass. That could be a problem against a Packers team that can air it out with the best of them.

Week nine did not bring about many relevant injuries in the world of fantasy football, but with one more week of byes remaining on the NFL schedule, and powerhouse offenses like the Packers, Saints and Chargers all set for their week off, many owners will find themselves scrambling for some last second replacements. Most notable are the losses of quarterbacks Philip Rivers, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. So are there any worthy replacements available on the waiver wire?

Here are some names you may want to look out for, and if you are in need and can get your hands on them, don’t hesitate to do so.

David Garrard, QB, JAC – With the Jaguars on their bye in week nine, many fantasy owners may have felt the need to drop Garrard. If that was the case in your league, be sure to turn their mistake into your gain. Garrard is not a great option for those looking for a full-time replacement as he tends to be quite inconsistent, but he should have a strong game against the Houston Texans’ league-worst pass defense in week 10. The Texans’ gave up four touchdowns to the Chargers’ practice squad receivers, and we don’t expect them to turn things around anytime soon.

Shaun Hill, QB, DET – The Buffalo Bills may not be giving up a lot of yards through the air this season (they currently rank 6th in the league in passing yards against per game), but they have allowed a dreadful 17 passing touchdowns against and have only recorded one interception through eight games. Whether it is Shaun Hill or Drew Stanton playing quarterback for the Lions on Sunday, either play-caller should be able to put up some respectable numbers as a week 10 fill-in.

Nate Washington, WR, TEN – One trend that has become apparent as Randy Moss moves around the league this season is that whoever happens to be playing on the opposite side of him at the wide receiver position always tends to benefit from his presence. Being the deep threat that he is, Moss always seems to attract at least two, and sometimes three defenders. If he can do the same in Tennessee, we expect Nate Washington to be the beneficiary of his arrival.

Sidney Rice, WR, MIN – Those at the top of their league standings may already be looking forward to the playoffs. If that sounds like you, I advise you get your hands on Sidney Rice if he is still available in your league. Rice was a top fantasy producer last season at the wide receiver position. If he can come back soon and regain his form in time for the fantasy playoffs (week 14 in most cases), you will be happy you added him to your roster in advance.

Vincent Jackson, WR, SD – Much like Rice, those who are looking for playoff reinforcements at the wide receiver position are advised to make their move now for the Chargers’ Vincent Jackson. It seems like whoever Philip Rivers is throwing the ball to is a great fantasy asset, and there is absolutely no reason to believe that the same wont be true of Jackson upon his return. Look for he and Rivers to get their timing back during the next few weeks of practice, and he should be able to make an immediate impact upon his return to the Chargers line-up in week 12.

It can be tough to make a decision between starting or sitting specific players throughout your fantasy football season based on favorable and/or tough match-ups.

TotalProSports is here to help you make such decisions with our weekly Start’em & Sit’em post where we will break down each position and give you some players you may want to consider starting, and some you might be better off sitting.

Quarterbacks

Start’em: Philip Rivers vs. KC – This may seem like a no-brainer, but some may be hesitant to start Rivers with Vincent Jackson not in the line-up. Well don’t be. Rivers has owned the Chiefs in his career, averaging over 300 yards in his last four games against them. He has also tallied a total of nine touchdowns in those contests, scoring at least two in each of them. Look for Rivers to light it up once again on Monday night.

Other QB start’ems worth noting: Jay Cutler vs. DET, Carson Palmer vs. NE, Alex Smith vs. SEA

Sit’em: Joe Flacco vs. NYJ – I love Flacco’s fantasy appeal this season, but I hate his match-up in week one against the New York Jets. With Darrelle Revis signed and back in the Jets secondary where he belongs, Flacco will likely be forced to stay away from Boldin and look to his other options. But with the off-season additions of Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson, Flacco may have trouble finding anyone open on Monday night.

Other QB sit’ems worth noting: Matt Ryan vs. PIT, Vince Young vs. OAK, Chad Henne vs. BUF

Running Backs

Start’em: Ronnie Brown vs. BUF – Ronnie Brown may have been a huge risk on draft day because of his history of injury troubles, but he will go into week one healthy and should be able to produce some big numbers against a Bills’ defense that was rather shameful against the run last season. And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, we should also tell you that in his last game against the Bills, Brown recorded 115 yards and two touchdowns.

Other RB start’ems worth noting: Jerome Harrison vs. TB, Arian Foster vs. IND, Matt Forte vs. DET

Sit’em: Pierre Thomas vs. MIN – I expect there to be a lot of points in tonight’s game between the Vikings and the Saints, but I don’t expect many of those points to be coming from Pierre Thomas. When you consider the fact that he will be sharing the load with Reggie Bush, and he will be playing against one of the stiffest run defenses in the league, don’t expect week one to be a productive one for Thomas.

Other RB sit’ems worth noting: Justin Forsett vs. SF, LeSean McCoy vs. GB, Clinton Portis vs. DAL

Wide Receivers

Start’em: Johnny Knox vs. DET – Sunday we will all finally get to see just how the Mike Martz experiment will shape up in Detroit, and the Bears couldn’t have picked a better match-up if they tried. The Lions were dreadful against the pass last season and there is no reason for us to believe that they have improved much in that area. Jay Cutler may throw a few picks, but he will also complete a lot of passes, and most of those should fall into the hands of Johnny Knox.

Other WR start’ems worth noting: Terrell Owens vs. NE, Malcolm Floyd vs. KC, Michael Crabtree vs. SEA

Sit’em: Anquan Boldin vs. NYJ – If you are a fan of the Baltimore Ravens, you may want to send Boldin some reading material, a bathing suit, and a sleeping bag, because it could get lonely for him out on Revis Island. Boldin is a stud receiver in the NFL, but as we saw last season, even the best of the best do not see the light of day when they are lined up against Revis. Unfortunately for Boldin, he will be the first victim of 2010.

Other WR sit’ems worth noting: Mike Sims-Walker vs. DEN, Kenny Brit vs. OAK, Santana Moss vs. DAL

Tight Ends

Start’em: Jermichael Finley vs. PHI – I have said it before and I will say it again: Finley will be an absolute stud this season. This is probably the last time you will see him on this list as I prefer to keep stud fantasy players off here (after all, how can you ever sit one of your studs?), but if you have Finley, be sure to start him this week. The Eagles were one of the worst teams in the NFL last season when it comes to defending the tight end.

Other TE start’ems worth noting: Kellen Winslow vs. CLE, Greg Olsens vs. DET, Heath Miller vs. TEN

Sit’em: Jermaine Gresham vs. NE – Reviews have been great for the rookie tight end, but don’t expect him to soar out of the gate. The tight end position can be a tough one to break into for first-year players and it doesn’t help that Gresham will be up against a Pats defense that was tough on tight ends in 2009.

Other TE sit’ems worth noting: Owen Daniels vs. IND, John Carlson vs. SF, Todd Heap vs. NYJ

Kickers

Start’em: Neil Rackers vs. IND – It should be a shootout in Houston on Sunday, and if that is the case, it bodes well for Rackers.

Sit’em: Matt Bryant vs. PIT – Scoring points on the Steelers is tough enough, and to make matters worse for Bryant, kicking in Heinz Field is no easy task.

Defenses

Start’em: 49ers vs. SEA – The Seahawks offense has several question marks surrounding it. Looks for the 49ers stellar defense to cash in on what we expect to be a mistake-filled game.

Sit’em: Eagles vs. GB – The Packers are expected to field one of the leagues most potent offenses in 2010. Don’t expect the Eagles to be able to stop them.

0-1

0-1

Jim Zorn and Jason Campbell both looked inexperienced in their loss to Giants. The fact that they play in the NFL’s hardest division means that they are in for a long season and will most likely miss out on the post season.

24

0-1

Awful, doesn’t begin to describe how bad this team looked against the Bills. The loss of Nate Burleson for the season is yet another blow to an already ailing receiving corps.

25

0-1

The Offense was ineffective and the defense was equally inept in their match up against the Ravens. Palmer will have to learn how to play better under pressure or they won’t have many victories this season.

0-1

Even with the leagues MVP knocked out the game they failed to win the game. The fact that Brody Croyle is injured might be a good thing as Damon Huard has played well in spot duty.

0-1

They looked like the same old Texans in week one, as Matt Shaub did his best David Carr impression. Gary Kubiak will have his hands full against the rejuvenated Ravens D this week.

0-1

The Raiders looked out of synch and inexperienced against the Broncos this week. Dangelo Hall, one of their prized free agents was burned all game by rookie Eddie Royal.

0-1

Despite losing a close game against the Jets, Miami still has a lot of work to do. If they can beat the chargers this week they might be able to move up a couple spots.

0-1

0-1

Long considered the best back-up in league when he played in San Diego behind Ladanian Tomlinson, in week 1 Turner introduced himself to the rest of the league in a big way. The thick legged and speedy Turner burned through the Lions D on his way to a 220 yard 2td performance on just a measly 22 carries.

Honorable mention:Donovan McNabb, QB, Philadelphia Eagles.

Playing under the bright lights of Sunday night football this rookie out of Tulane seemed unfazed by the millions of people watching or the Indianapolis Colts defense. Forte had himself a great day with 23 carries for 123 yards and 1 td in one of the biggest upsets of week 1. The Bears seem to have finally found the player they have been looking for since the they let go of Thomas Jones for nothing before last season.

Honorable mention: Chris Johnson, RB, Tennessee Titans.

When Tom Brady went down early in week 1 against the Patriots most people knew that the Pats D would have to step up big if they were to win the game. Well, the D never really played all that well as the game went down to the final play the KC could not convert. The best player on the defensive side of the ball for the Pats was undoubtedly Ellis Hobbs, who stuffed the stat sheet with three tackles 1interception, 1sack, and 1 forced fumble.
