When you’re discussing the hottest photo shoots of the year, you expect the Swimsuit Issue to come up. You don’t really expect PETA to enter the conversation. However, their naked-celebrity-anti-fur stance has made them contenders year after year. Never write off how much hot girls love animals. Beyond that entry, there were a few other surprises, but the usual suspects reigned supreme. Check out the entries below and enjoy the year in semi-nudity.

11. Lindsey Vonn – Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition

It’s one thing to be named 2010 Athlete of the Year by the AP. It’s another thing to achieve that distinction and also look criminally good in a bikini. Vonn’s a double threat in that regard, and we’re happy to have her on the team.

10. Lingerie Football League – PETA

While you may or may not agree with PETA’s methods and beliefs, what’s harder to disagree with is their use of half-naked model’s to protest the use of fur. I’ve never known the girls of the Lingerie Football League to be terribly political, but they can strip down for PETA whenever they’d like.

9. Maria Kanellis – Red Shoes Photo Shoot

She’s a model, singer-songwriter, and former WWE wrestler. This photo shoot was done in tandem with the release of her first studio album, Sevin Sins. Thank God hot girls don’t need to be good spellers.

8. Various – FHM “Joga Bonito” Photo Shoot

FHM Spain did a pictorial celebrating the sportsmanship of soccer via the Joga Bonito campaign. The “models” are actually amateur soccer players. Once you see them, though, you’ll quickly want to upgrade them to professional status.

7. Ana Ivanovic – Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

The number one Serbian tennis player in the world can also wear a bikini; a fact that surprises none of us. Props to the SI Swimsuit Issue for enlightening their readers on how sexy athletes look in bikinis. They should get a Pulitzer.

6. Allison Baver – Esquire

Baver, a short-distance speed skater, has the distinction of being the only racing athlete on this list. Think about how much faster she’ll be without all those heavy clothes on.

While several companies appear to be jumping off the Tiger Woods bandwagon, PETA is jumping on.  Following in the footsteps of Trojan Condoms, these animal lovers have decided to take Tiger Woods’ sexual prowess and turn it into a positive, using it to promote the spraying and neutering of cats and dogs.

Woods, of course, has not given the billboard his thumbs-up, but PETA campaigner Virginia Fort believes that he will appreciate their attempt to turn his story “into something positive for little tigers.”  Perhaps she does not know Tiger all that well, but I am willing to bet that his reaction to the ad will involved some swearing as well as a few tossed golf clubs.

From an outsider’s perspective, the advertisement does appear to be a great idea and is quite catchy as well.  I can’t help but think that Tiger’s wife, Elin, is still wondering why she hadn’t taken PETA’s advice earlier in their relationship.

Today we bring you another story about dogfighting and those who are fighting against it.  The reigning world welterweight champion, “Sugar” Shane Mosley has teamed up with PETA for a new ad campaign looking to KO dogfighting for good.

In a statement on their site regarding their new plan of attack against this sort of cruelty towards canines, they state the following:

As Shane points out in the ads, boxers choose to fight for a living, but dogs who are used for fighting don’t have any choice. Dogs used in fighting rings are typically kept in tiny cages or outdoors on heavy chains 24 hours a day—the worst punishment imaginable for social animals who need companionship and something interesting to do. To make them aggressive, dogfighters often starve, beat, and taunt them, and they use smaller animals (who are sometimes stolen from people’s yards) as “bait.”

Dogs who survive fights often sustain serious injuries, such as broken bones and crushed cartilage. Many suffer and die from blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or days after a fight. Dogfighters often “dispose” of dogs who lose fights by shooting, drowning, or burning them alive. Dogfighting is illegal in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. [PETA]

If PETA and Mosely really want to get rid of the problem, mabe they should consider just sending Sugar Shane out there to kick the asses of anyone who takes part in organizing dogfights.  Shall we send him the the doorstep of Michael Vick first?

During a bull fight in Madrid on Wednesday, Israel prepared for his next trick.  What he wasn’t prepared for was what would happen next.  As he moved to dodge the oncoming bull, he was not quick enough and the horn of the giant beast punctured his lower abdomen with an 8-inch hole.  If that isn’t enough to make you reconsider your choice of profession, I don’t know what is.  Although, even soccer has proven to have its moments.

Bullfighting has long been debated regarding the unethical treatment that such animals are put through.  This time it was the human receiving the unethical treatment.  These bulls are often slaughtered or killed for show, but in this case revenge was had.  Shall we say, make that one for the good guys?

With the amount of money that he is sure to make off of these awesome shirts, there is no reason for him ever to play in the NFL again.

I wonder how many of these things he will actually sell? My guess is around 10.  I’m sure the people from PETA will want a couple to use as fire starter or toilet paper.

As quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, Vick suffered numerous criticisms of his passing ability, and has been used many times as an example of why speed and athleticism don’t automatically result in greatness.  Maybe, however, it was the NFL that wasn’t ready for Mike Vick.

The incredible success of spread offenses in college has begun to creep into professional football and hybrid players that can run, pass and catch are the fashionable trend.  Ronnie Brown of the Miami Dolphins had a resurgence last season running the “wildcat” offense, including a game with 4 rushing touchdowns and 1 passing.

Perhaps NFL offenses have evolved enough that Michael Vick will be able to use his strengths and be rewarded, rather than forced into pocket passing and be criticized.

Without going into any of the drama surrounding Vick’s dog problems, I think that if he does return to the league, the Michael Vick Experience will once again be open and exciting as ever.

How can a sports fan not love this day?

The Super Bowl, all the gambling that goes on during the game, the food, the beer and those spectacular Super Bowl Commercials that companies pay $1 billion for a 30 second ad spot (Just Kidding).

The animal rights group PETA have gone public with their proposed Super Bowl ad which has been turned down and asked to be reedited because it is to sexual.  The ad by PETA which is named “Veggie Love” shows beautiful almost naked models, fondling their favorite vegetables in a seductive way. I truly enjoyed the part where one of the models was playing with the 10″ zucchini (This didn’t happen, but it would have been funny if it did!)

NBC has said that, “it depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards.”

They have also asked PETA to remove the following from the commercial and be resubmitted for approval.

• licking pumpkin
• touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli
• pumpkin from behind between legs
• rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin
• screwing herself with broccoli (fuzzy)
• asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina
• licking eggplant
• rubbing asparagus on breast

After watching the commercial and reviewing it many times (We watched it at least 20 times for research purposes) we still can’t find the part where NBC says the model is screwing herself with broccoli and the asparagus on her lap appears as if it is ready to be inserted into the vagina.

NBC needs to lighten up because the last time I checked sex with vegetables is the safest kind and these day maybe more people should be trying it out.
