DeWanna Bonner Had The WNBA’s Best/Worst Name

“With the fifth pick of the 2009 WNBA Draft, the Phoenix Mercury select DeWanna Bonner.” Wait, what did you ask me? Do I want a what?

With names like Destinee Hooker out there, it may be tough to call this the greatest name in sports, but I think it is fair to say that DeWanna Bonner easily has the best (or worst) name in the WNBA. Just imagine how good “DeWanna Bonner” must sounds coming from the mouth of a Rastafarian?

Suddenly I have a reason to watch the WNBA…On second though, maybe not.

Diana Taurasi Hit With Three Drunk Driving Charges

Total Pro Sports – Diana Taurasi was caught a couple of weeks ago doing her best impression of an NBA star, and now the WNBA star will be faced with three drunk driving related charges as a result.

Taurasi was pulled over by an officer in Phoenix early on the morning of July 2nd. She was compliant with the cops and submitted blood for an alcohol test. Results have now come back and reports are indicating that her blood-alcohol level was 0.17 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 in the state of Arizona.

The 27-year-old guard for the Phoenix Mercury has pleaded not guilty will now appear in court on July 22 for three drunk driving charges, including extreme DUI. That should teach her not to act like an NBA star!

WNBA Star Diana Taurasi Arrested For DUI

Total Pro Sports – One thing that the WNBA would probably love to do is model their game after the NBA in hopes of receiving similar television ratings. Someone should have told Diana Taurasi that their imitation of the men’s game should come ON THE COURT, not off it.

Taurasi’s Phoenix Mercury had just completed a game hours earlier, a 93-81 victory over the Seattle Storm. She had 22 points and four blocked shots and must have celebrated with a few drinks before driving home. She was pulled over at 7th Avenue and Camelback Road at about 2:30am Thursday morning for speeding and failing to drive in one lane. When pulled over, the officer smelled alcohol and gave her a field sobriety test.

Following the test she was taken to a mobile DUI van for blood testing, then released to friends. The results of her blood test were not revealed, but authorities did say she was “polite and courteous with the officers.” I guess even her NBA star impression is still lacking somewhat.

It is confusing for most to comprehend how athletes who often get paid generous amount of money can get behind the wheel of a car when drunk, rather than take a cab. I guess those WNBA salaries just aren’t comparable with their male basketball-playing counterparts. I wonder if Rowdy Roddy Piper will use a similar excuse for WWE wrestlers.
