This tight battle to close out the Western Conference Finals was no walk in the park, and even required an overtime frame after a late Patrick Kane goal in the third period knotted things up at 1-1. The Wings dominated in the shots department, out-shooting the Hawks 46-31, but Cristobal Huet was on his game, leaving the home town crowd at the edge of their seats, and one fan even took things out on the ref. I thought the guys in stripes were pretty good in this one.

At one point during the second period, a fan in the front row was caught on camera giving the ref a “two-fingered salute”. P.J. Stock wasn’t a fan of the “putz” and show his displeasure for the “putz”. Seems like living in that bubble for so long has P.J a little wound up, but we agree. There was no need for the fingers at the refs. They should probably be saving those for Croby and Malkin. But I only wish Detroit Fans sitting front row could be more like Florida Panthers fans who flash their boobs on a regular basis.

The Cup finals will begin Saturday night at 8pm ET in Detroit. The repeat finals of last year between the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins will be the first since time teams have played each other in back to back finals since the Edmonton Oilers got their revenge on the New York Islanders in 1984.

It should be a good one again this time around. You know everyone will be wondering how much that extra year of experience has helped Crosby and Malkin. And lets not forget about Hossa’s decision during the off-season to leave Pittsburgh in favor of playing in Detroit. Was it a good one?

Fighting should be allowed in hockey as it has been a part of the NHL forever.

After posting The Best Minor Hockey League Fight Ever yesterday, we received an email from a TPS reader who told us to check out the Stock vs. Peat fight in 2002. The subject line in the email read “This is how they do it old school.”

So back in the NHL in 2002 award has to go to PJ Stock of the Boston Bruins and Stephen Peat of the Washington Capitals. Neither of the 2 players are awarded the decision as we will call this one a tie. Pj Stock lands 41 punches and Stephen Peat lands 43 punches. (And yes we tried to count ever punch that was thrown by the two) A total of 80 plus punches thrown between the 2 of them in a mere 30 seconds, unbelievable.

This is how you do it. Two guys, dropping the gloves handling their business. Rest of the team backs away and let’s it happen. Said the TPS reader.

So take a look at the video and tell me if you think the NHL should remove fighting from the game?

So tell me is there any reason to ban fighting from hockey? The 2 players take care of their business in a controlled environment and then head to the penalty box to serve their time.

Did anyone die? No, Did anyone get hurt? No, but imagine if this fight took place on the streets in a non controlled environment. One of these 2 players would have definitely been seriously injured or perhaps even died.
