So why, you may ask, should Peterson not have to suffer the same level of embarrassment as the rest of his team? It isn’t everyday that someone comes into the Carrier Dome and gets themselves a number two spot on ESPN’s Top 10 Plays of the Night.

His team may have been down by 20 at that point, but Peterson still found himself enough room to dribble through the lane, toss a pass off the backboard to himself, and slam the ball home for two points. Unfortunately, most people likely stopped watching the game at this point, but we have to dish out props where they are due. Peterson and the rest of the Fryers could have simply folded, with the game already decided, but they continued to fight hard, and even provided those who remained tuned in with a highlight reel play like this one.

NCAA dunk of the year? It just might be, as long as you don’t include Will Coleman‘s “kiss dunk.”

Last week it was Elizabeth Lambert of the University of New Mexico who went all “crazy bitch” on her opponents during a Mountain West Conference Tournament semifinal game against BYU. She has since been suspended indefinately by the school for her actions.

This time it is the students at Tolman and Woonsocket doing the hair pulling and face scratching during the Rhode Island State soccer championship, which took place in Providence on Sunday night. It all started when two players from opposing teams collided during the play. After one of the females was knocked to the floor, she got to her feet and proceeded to push her counterpart repeatedly. Punches would eventually begin to fly as several of the players joined the fray. Order was eventually restored, but not for long.

Following the game during the award ceremony, a scuffle broke out in the stands between fans from both schools. However, when it was all said and done, no arrests were made and everyone went home in one piece.

Truth be told, this aggressive behavior may have finally given us a reason to care about female soccer.

The foul forced Jeff from the game because of his lack of ability to see, thanks to a swollen eye. It was a questionable decision by Jonathan to take the court as the foul did not look intentional or malicious.

Jonathan Xavier was taken to the police station and charged with disorderly conduct. Marquette coach Buzz Williams threatened to take his players off the court after Jonathan came down from about 25 rows up to approach the referee.

Williams was later quoted saying,

“I told the officials, ‘We’ll leave, because that’s extremely dangerous,’” Williams also said, “I saw the guy coming out of the stands. Forget the game; I’m going to protect the guys. I’m going to protect those guys no matter what.”

We think that the situation was escalated because of the non foul on that specific play, if you watch the video we feel it was a good no call. The players were not threatened by the situation, but they knew that a fan should not be on the basketball court, as Jerel McNeal said,

“I just saw him come out onto the floor,” he said. “And I thought about it and I was like, ‘Man, I don’t think he’s supposed to be out here.’”

As for the final result Marquette ended up winning the game and moving their record to an impressive 16-2, while the Friars drop to 11-6 on the season.
