So yeah, when it comes to the Super Bowl, just about any little thing can be made into a big deal. Then again, not everything surrounding the Super Bowl is pure hype. Sometimes there really are legitimate scandals leading up to or during the big game. And since Super Bowl XLVI is going down this Sunday, I thought I’d provide you with a rundown of 13 biggest scandals in the history of the event.

So check ‘em out.

While most people were busy trying to figure out how Billy Cundiff missed a 32-yard game-tying field-goal attempt with 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of yesterday’s AFC Championship Game, I was still busy trying to figure out how Tom Brady didn’t break his back during his go-ahead touchdown leap on fourth-and-goal from just outside the Ravens’ end zone.

I was just sitting here working when I first heard this speech, and by the end of it I had to restrain myself from going outside and finding someone on the street to tackle.

And if his words weren’t enough, how about the special effects in the background?  Thunder and lightning just going off as Ray Lewis shares his story with the team?  Not even Steven Spielberg himself could have planned it any better than that.

I think it is safe to say that Old Spice’s former spokesperson Isaiah Mustafa has been given the Dustin Keller-treatment in favor of Lewis.

With the loss, the Jets begin the season 0-1 with the New England Patriots up next.  It looks like the Hard Knocks have only just begun.

So what else does Ray do?  Well for starters, he uses Old Spice body wash, rides through space on the back of a raven, and shoots out planets whenever he feels like it.  Don’t believe me?  Then take a look at this.

There is something about seeing Ray Lewis draped in soap bubbles that just doesn’t sit right with me.

Ndamukong Suh may not have played his first down of NFL football, but he is already the league’s hardest hitter according to ESPN’s Sports Science.

This is a pretty cool show and the Ndamukong Suh segment is excellent. But there isn’t a person out there that watched this and didn’t burst out laughing when the host said, “Incredibly, over 20 yards, this 300-pounder is flat-out faster than Tony Romo.” I’m faster than Tony Romo. You’re faster than Tony Romo. This skateboard punk is faster than Tony Romo. Carmelo Anthony sleeping is faster than Tony Romo. So while the show is great, they might need a new writer.

They also don’t come right out and say that Suh is already the hardest hitter in the NFL, but his hit was harder than that of Ray Lewis. And when you hit harder than Ray Lewis, you are definitely The Man when it comes to big hitters.

But don’t get excited thinking your team has a shot at Suh. He’ll be going #2 overall, or maybe even #1 if the Rams sour on Sam Bradford.

Since 1999 EA sports has been putting popular NFL players on the cover of the game instead of the handsome John Madden.  Here is a look at some of the cover boys and how they fares in the subsequent season.

2009- Brett Favre

Suffered a shoulder injury late in the season, Jets miss the playoffs.  Threw an NFL leading 12 interceptions.

2008- Vince Young

Had a minor injury in 2007, but has since lost his starting job to Kerry Collins.

2007-  Shaun Alexander

Suffered a broken foot and missed 6 games.

2006- Donavan McNabb

Suffered a sports hernia during first game of the season.  After playing through the pain he had surgery and missed the last 7 games of the year.

2005- Ray Lewis

Ravens failed to make the playoffs and next season he missed 10 games.

2004- Mike Vick

Suffered a broken leg the day after the game was released.  Falcons finish 5-11.  Currently in jail.

2003- Marshall Faulk

Has injured ankle for most of the year and Rams fail to make the playoffs.

2002- Daunte Culpepper

Suffers knee injury and misses 5 games.  Minne finishes 5-11.

“When we played Ray Lewis and Baltimore at the end of the season, he came over and pointed to my helmet. He said: ‘I want to wear this star on my helmet. That’s my dream … that’s my dream.  When we got to the Pro Bowl, he did it again. He came at me every day. He’s trying to get down where the star is. He told me he needed me to get him [owner] Jerry Jones’ phone number for him. I just busted out laughing.”

With free agency set to start on Friday, it will be interesting to see how this develops.  Some believe that Lewis, who has never been a free agent in his 13 year career, is using the Cowboys as leverage to up his price with the Ravens, but Ware does not believe that is the case:

“Believe me, he is genuine.  He talked to me two years ago about it. He calls me about once a week and talks about it then. I even said: ‘Hey, Ray, I’m tired about talking about this. You need to find Jerry Jones’ number and fly out there and talk to him.’”

Another interesting fact to consider is just how would the Cowboys be able to afford him.  They are already close to the salary cap and intend on signing Ware to a high priced extension.  With that being said, it will still be interesting to see just what happens to the man many consider to still be one of the best linebackers out there.

This is not the only storyline with free agency approaching.  Other interesting reports include T.J.Houshmandzadeh possibly being pursued by the Eagles, the Cards close to resigning Warner, and Jeff Saturday testing the market.
