Steven Stamkos Gets A Birthday Pie To The Face (Video)

No matter how many goals you have or where you rank among all NHLers in goal scoring, you are never safe from the Tampa Bay tradition of getting a face full of shaving cream on your birthday. Steve Downie and Ryan Malone proved this yesterday morning when they shared their foamy gift with the NHL’s leading goal-scorer, Steven Stamkos, on his 22nd birthday.

Unfortunately, that face full of foam would be the only gift Stamkos would receive from his teammates yesterday, as he accounted for the Lightning’s only goal during a 3-1 loss at home to the Los Angeles Kings.

Needless to say, the Lightning still owe their team’s best player a real birthday gift. A playoff appearance would be nice, but with two teams and nine points standing between them and the Southeast Division leading Washington Capitals, an expensive dinner seems much more practical at the moment.

Frozen Fisticuffs Fight Of The Night — Three From Devils vs. Lightning — 12/12/11

There was only one game on the NHL’s schedule last night, but it did provide us with three fights. It began when Ryan Carter of the New Jersey Devils and Pavel Kubina of the Tampa Bay Lightning dropped the gloves in the second period. Their bout was followed by two more in the third; one featuring David Clarkson and Ryan Malone, and another between Alexander Urbom and Steve Downie.

None of these bouts were thrilling, but the were good enough to earn each of these six combatants a spot on the “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night” for Monday, December 12, 2011.

Here is a look at each of the three fights from last night’s game between the New Jersey Devils and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tampa Bay Lightning Show Some Skin During Strip Shootout (Video)

Total Pro Sports – Most of you have likely heard of strip poker. A game where the loser of each hand has to take off an article of clothing until someone (or everyone) is naked. Well the Tampa Bay Lightning have taken the “strip” idea, but you likely will not see Phil Ivey laying any money down on this rather strange but interesting rendition of the game.

To build some comradery among teammates, the Lightning ended their practice with a good clean game of “strip shootout.” This is one interesting way to help improve your team’s production in the extra frame.

The rules of the game are simple. Score and you are out (which is a good thing). Miss and you must continue, taking one piece of equipment off each time you get stopped.

The surprise loser during this game was Lightning sniper Martin St. Louis, who was forced to play for several rounds on his own after the rest of the team had scored. With his helmet, gloves, jersey, shoulder pads, and elbow pads already off, St. Louis continued on, repeatedly missing and shedding his shin pads, skates, hockey socks, and regular socks before finally putting one by the keeper.

Remember playing strip poker when younger, how the girls would wear loads of extra clothing and only take one little piece off at a time. St. Louis must, and he used this opportunity to employ a similar strategy. Things really appeared to get tough once he lost his skates. Maybe he should try getting some advice from 9-year-old Oliver Wahlstrom. That may help the Lightning win a few extra games, and keep their equipment on in the process.

When it was all said and done, the guys got a good laugh out of the whole thing, which was organized by Ryan Malone and Jeff Halpern. And thankfully no one got hurt, but we would still advise against skating with only one skate on.
