Midway through the second quarter the Jaguars found themselves clinging to a 14-10 lead. That was when the Philip Rivers show began, as he tossed the game’s next three touchdowns and secured the 38-14 victory for his Chargers.

During a season that has seen him suffer through his fair share of struggles, Rivers was on target throughout the night, connecting on 22 of his 29 pass attempts for 294 yards and three touchdowns. For only the third time all season, and the second time in the last two weeks, Rivers also committed zero turnovers.

There is no telling whether this will be the start of a miraculous playoff push for the Chargers, but one thing we do know is that Rivers’ performance last night was worthy of “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, December 5, 2011.

When Tim Tebow got down on one knee, placed his elbow on his leg and his forehead on his fist, and began praying to God following a week 7 win over the Miami Dolphins, “Tebowing” was born and it proceeded to take the world by storm.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, people across America and around the world began Tebowing everywhere. Even NFL players were Tebowing, however, most of them were doing it in an effort to mock the Broncos’ quarterback after sacking him.

Fast forward to last weekend’s game between the Denver Broncos and the San Diego Chargers. Despite a three-game winning streak for Tebow and the Broncos, “Tebowing” appeared to be on its last legs and fans were looking for a new fad to call their own.

Enter Nick Novak.

With one minute remaining in regulation, the Chargers kicker got down on one knee near a Gatorade table and began to release some bodily fluids. It was at this moment that “Peebowing” was born.

For those who still don’t get how Peebowing works, here is a definition provided by Peebowing.com, which is a website dedicated to images of people taking part in the act of Peebowing:

Verb: Randomly peeing on things in public. Like Nick Novak does. It helps if a friend holds a towel for you.

And for those who prefer visual aids, you will find them in the images below.

Novak would get an opportunity to kick a game-winning 53-yard field-goal in overtime, but he would miss wide right. While that may have disappointed most of the people on the Chargers’ sideline, I’d assume the guy on towel duty in the above image was happy that Novak waited until after he was finished urinating before missing his target.

Here is a video of Novak’s sideline fluid dump.

Not only did the Oakland Raiders eke out a hard-fought victory over California rivals the San Diego Chargers, they also leaped to the top spot in the AFC West. Chargers fans, however, can take some solace in this brutal footage of Ryan Matthews lifting up Tyvon Branch and throwing him to the ground like a rag doll.

There’s no certainly no love lost between these two teams, or their fans. A little extra rough housing is to be expected. Check the block on this video, though, that’s as effective a use at using legal tactics to make a player think twice as any we’ve ever seen. While the Chargers dropped to third, they can find some small comfort in knowing that they made the Raiders hurt.

It was almost as if you could picture those guys from the Buffalo Wild Wings commercial saying, “The only thing that would make this any better is overtime.”

One of those new rules involves moving the spot of the kickoff up from the 30-yard line of the kicking team to the 35-yard line. It is intended to limit the number of kickoff returns, thus limiting the number of injuries. And while many fans felt that it would mark the end of exciting kickoff return touchdowns, San Diego Chargers’ return man Bryan Walters proved us all wrong with the following 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks last night.

Great to have you back football. We all missed you dearly.

However, in the end she does come out swinging, giving herself one final chance at salvaging her pride. Hopefully the 49ers can follow suit with their playoff hopes still alive and two crucial upcoming games against the St. Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals remaining on their 2010 schedule.

Jackson served as Rivers’ prime target last night during the San Diego Chargers’ game against the San Francsico 49ers, and he delivered to the tune of five receptions for 112 yards and three touchdowns. He got things started early, recording a 58-yard touchdown on the fourth play from scrimmage. He and his Charger teammates did not look back from there as Rivers and Jackson would hook up for two more scores of 11 and 21 yards on route to a dominating 34-7 victory.

After a terrible start to the season the Chargers now find themselves with a great shot at winning the AFC West and making the playoffs. And with Philip Rivers passing the ball like he has been, and possibly having the services of Jackson, Gates and Floyd all at his disposal, the San Diego Chargers are one team that could make some noise in January. For now, Vincent Jackson earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, December 16, 2010.

It seems as though all the alcohol may have blurred the judgment of these two Raiders fans just a bit. Did they really think they could start a fight with a half-dozen angry Chargers fans and walk away unscathed? Your team may have won the game, but you guys just lost the war.

So this is what the San Diego Chargers were supposed to look like. I wasn’t sure after watching them stumble their way to a 4-5 start. The 35-14 shellacking they handed Denver on Monday Night Football last night seemed more appropriately matched to the expectations of this season. As inconsistent as they have been, however, Philip Rivers has been rolling along, and quietly making a case for MVP. Last night it was on display for a national audience.

Rivers did not need to throw the ball that many times last night to get the job done. On only 24 pass attempts, he completed 15 of them and amassed 233 yards. He was also able to engineer 4 touchdowns through the air and only threw one interception. He now has 3,177 yards on the season and with 6 games to go, he can legitimately challenge Dan Marino’s single season mark of 5,084 yards passing. On top of that, his quarterback rating on the night was also an impressive 116.8.

While San Diego’s slow start has them in a hole, they are certainly not out of it yet. The division leading Chiefs are only 6-4, 1 game ahead of the Chargers. Rivers has looked like an MVP candidate so far and if he keeps it up, there’s no reason to think they can’t overtake the Chiefs and make the playoffs, where anything can happen. Rivers wins the “Stat Line of the Night”, and the Chargers appear to have righted the ship. All in all, a good night for San Diego.
