Upon first glance, the collision didn’t look all that bad.  That is, until you see one of Ujkani’s teeth flying through the air.  As you would expect, he was substituted from the game immediately following the incident.

Most were impressed with his performance, including Italian journalist and AC Milan superfan Tiziano Crudeli.  In fact, Tiziano was so overcome with joy that he couldn’t help but do some moonwalking of his own.  Or, at least he attempted to do some moonwalking of his own.  Needless to say, he didn’t have much success.

After seeing this, Michael Jackson must be turning in his grave.

With the game tied 0-0, Dejan Stankovic’s strike in the 45th minute put Inter ahead and sent commentator Ray Hudson into a frenzy.  It was quite the display of skill from the Serbian midfielder, who has now used one screamer to evoke another twice in the past two weeks.

During yesterday’s Italian Serie A action, Marcolini was on the receiving end of an errant pass from a Bologna player, when he decided to give it a go from 45 meters away from goal.  That decision would prove to be a good one, as he delivered a perfect ball over the goalkeepers head and into the top corner of the net, giving Chievo the late 2-0 lead.  They would hold on to win by the same score.

Despite bearing a striking resemblance to the player on the back of their jersey, the men who took the field prior to Saturday’s game were not actually the players themselves.  Instead, they were actors performing as part of a marketing campaign for the Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.

I’ll credit the paper for putting together this creative and entertaining scene, however, I can’t help but wonder why they wouldn’t use the real players.  After all, no one is better at acting than a footballer.

Most notable among the highlights was the unbelievable overhead strike from Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, which many are now referring to as the “wonder goal.”  Not only was it a wonderful display of execution from the Man U striker, as he timed Nani’s cross perfectly and delivered the ball into the top corner of the net, but it also helped his club defeat their rivals from Manchester City by a score of 2-1.

As for the lowlight of the weekend, that comes from Milan, where Inter was taking on Juventus in Serie A action.  With only two minutes remaining in the game, and Inter trailing 1-0, Samuel Eto’o found himself with the ball at his feet and an empty net standing only a few feet in front of him.  Just when it seemed as though the tying goal was all but assured, the Cameroonian’s strike rang off the crossbar and out of harm’s way.  That was as close as Inter could come as they fell further behind their inner-city rivals from AC Milan for top spot in the league.

So there you have it.  Wayne Rooney provided us with a “wonder goal,” while Eto’o left us all wondering how someone of his caliber could miss from such a position.  Two unbelievable plays with two very different results, leaving us asking ourselves which is harder to believe?  The goal, or the miss? Players from Inter and Bari did their best rendition of Jordan Staal vs. Brandon Prust during Serie A action on Thursday, with Inter’s Cristian Chivu playing the role of Staal and Bari’s Marco Rossi playing Prust.  Following an Inter free kick, Chivu was forced to retreat when the ball was cleared away, but not before throwing a right hook to the side of Rossi’s head.

Once he got tired of rolling around on the ground, Rossi was looking to settle things the way hockey players tend to, but members of both teams prevented that from happening.  Even one of the game’s most popular bad boys, Marco Materazzi, was playing peacemaker.  I guess fighting is one problem soccer will never have to deal with.

Chivu was not assessed a card because the officials did not see the incident.  Here is a look at the punch.

Forget about the giant love-fest that typically ensues following a goal in soccer.  Bari’s Francesco Caputo just wants to let out some rage.  And he did just that following the equalizing goal against Cesena on Sunday by punching Emmanuel Rivas (who had just finished setting him up for the goal) directly in the face.

And as you would expect, Rivas refused to pass Caputo the ball for the remainder of the game.

As for the lowlight moment, that came during his celebration.  Although the fist pump appears to be a rather conservative celebration, according to soccer’s standards, Ibrahimovic’s excitement caused him to put a little to much swing into it, resulting in a slight hyper-extension of his elbow.

The Swedish striker would remain on the ground clutching his right arm for a few minutes, but thankfully he was able to avoid the embarrassment of being substituted out of the game due to an injury caused by a over-exuberant goal celebration.

Cesar had thrown a weak punch to the face of Eto’o just moments earlier, so rather than throw a retaliatory shot with his fist, the Cameroonian striker decided to use his head.
