There have been plenty of scandals that have taken place within NCAA football programs across the nation throughout the past 12 years.  MTV’s “Clutch Blog” helps us take a look at them with this interesting “College Football Scandal Map.”

One cheerleader from North Charleston, South Carolina had some help shaking off that rust, as much of it was probably knocked off her when she was unexpectedly steamrolled while cheering on her school during a recent game.

I’d hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but something tells me that the quarterback and receiver had this planned all along.  And what would make me think such a thing?  Check out the boob grab as he tries to cushion her fall.

Kirkham was listed as 6’9″ and his nickname was “Tree”.  He is also listed as fighting as a lightweight, though at his height that would be rather unusual.  Kirkham fought in Aiken, South Carolina at an event titled “Confrontation at the Convocation Center” last Saturday.  Kirkham was knocked out in the fight and did not regain consciousness.  He remained in that state and was pronounced dead at nearby Aiken Regional Medical Center on Monday.

Tim Carlton, the, Aiken County Coroner told the Associated Press that Kirkham died from bleeding inside the brain.  An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday.

Kirkham held a 3-3 mark as an amateur and fought out of the Fayetteville Independents camp in Fayetteville, N.C.

The brutality and dangers of competing in MMA are well-documented.  Sanctioning bodies need to make sure they are matching up fighters correctly.

I’m not sure this really counts as a sport, although the hillbilly towards the end of the video has dreams of making it a national sport.  These rednecks from South Carolina have set up a Backhoe in the middle of this giant mudhole.  They attached some kind of cord from the end of the shovel to a handle that the skier holds onto.  Then the machine starts to spin around, dragging the skier through the mud.  The first thought that comes to mind is “Yee-haw” followed shortly thereafter by “what are these idiots thinking?”

For as much criticism as rednecks take, though, this actually seems pretty fun.  I can’t say I wouldn’t try it if my friends had set up this mud-skiing apparatus.  I doubt it will ever be a mainstream sport or anything, but it sure seems fun.  Until the machine starts moving too slowly or quickly of course.  Then you either wind up airborne or flat in the mud.

She has since become a popular figure in the public eye (even Bill O’Reily had to put in his two cents), and has also become a favorite of the paparazzi.  Simply put, she has been “treated like fucking Brittany Spears,” as stated by herself during a 9-1-1 call.

Now Erin is ready to tell her story and you can see it on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Friday, September 11th.  The beautiful Andrews described the whole fiasco as a “nightmare” and even went on to tell Oprah that she “opened up the computer (and) could feel my heart pounding.”

Her appearance on Oprah, however, will not be her first time back in front of the camera since the incident.  She will once again be on the sidelines when the 2009 NCAA football season begins this Thursday as South Carolina visits North Carolina State.  Erin is looking forward to getting back to work, stating that “it’s really going to help me heal my wounds.”

We should also expect Erin’s large male fan base to be excited about her return to the camera as well.  Although the possibility of seeing her nude again is slim, there is always the chance for another Erin Andrews butt cam.

Yes, for the better.  What many seemed to think was a big joke, as Sheriff Lott looked to round up all those involved in the popular Phelps bong pics, actually turned in to a joke at a Rotary speech on Monday.  Putting a comedic twist on the whole story, Sheriff Lott put on his bullet proof vest to protect himself from “pot shots”, draped himself in medals, and even wore a blond wig.  The interview was not all about the comedy act as he had the following to say:

“It doesn’t matter if it’s Michael Phelps or who it is. If you break the law, you’ve got to be held to the same standard.  That’s what the law’s all about.”

So is he trying to tell us all that he would have taken the same action had he seen a picture of any other random person smoking weed?  I doubt it, but its about time this story, which seemed to be a joke all along, is finally treated as one.  Just one comment though.  With everyone questioning the actions of Phelps, has anyone questioned his true athletic ability.  I mean, a guy who can break all those records can smoke a bong like a champ too.  Now that’s talent.  That has also got to make you question the true nature of marijuana smoking.  Maybe it really isn’t as bad as all those conservative seniors tell us.

Phelps said that this incident was a result of bad judgment and that he will learn from this mistake. He has been suspended buy USA Swimming for 3 months and dropped the Kellogg Co. said that it would not renew its endorsement deal with him.

It would be nieve for any of us to believe that Michael Phelps will not continue to party the way he did that night but we are sure he will be more careful of his actions and the people he is hanging around. In today’s society people are more than willing to sabotage an athletes career, with the ability that technology gives us, Phelps should have been more aware of his surroundings.

Maybe next time he won’t be a dope.
