During the first television timeout of the game, a video montage of Horton appeared on the jumbotron.  Moments later Horton was shown standing at the zamboni entrance waving a yellow towel and urging the crowd and his teammates to get fired up.  It worked.

The Bruins will now travel to Vancouver for Game 7, and there will be no video montages of Horton to motivate them this time around, but you can bet that the injured Bruins forward will still be on the minds of his teammates.  Will that be enough to get Boston their first road win in the Finals and their first Stanley Cup since 1972?  We’ll find that out on Wednesday night.

After losing the first two games of the series, Thomas’ brilliance between the pipes has helped Boston bounce back on home ice and tie the series up at 2-2.  The Canucks threw an impressive 38 shots his way in Game 4, but none of those shots would get by the Bruins’ goalkeeper, as he earned his third shutout of the playoffs during the 4-0 victory.

After allowing only one goal on 79 shots in his last two games, Thomas currently finds himself in the lead for every major goaltending statistic in these playoffs.  His third shutout and fourteenth win has him tied for first with Roberto Luongo in both categories, while his .936 save percentage and 2.11 goals against average are good enough to lead the league.  With the series now headed back to Vancouver, you can expect the Canucks to come out hard at home, but they will have to find a way to beat Thomas if they want to maintain home-ice advantage.  Thomas appeared to be unbeatable last night, and because of that he earns our “Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, June 8, 2011.

The Bruins appeared to be fired up following Rome’s hit, as they scored four unanswered goals to take a commanding 4-0 lead.  And with the win seemingly in the bag at that point, Boston goaltender Tim Thomas decided to take the opportunity to send a message to the Canucks players, via this stiff check on, Henrik Sedin.

According to our count, Tim Thomas now has more hits than Tomas Kaberle in these playoffs.

If watching Burrows avoid a suspension and lead the Canucks a 2-0 series lead was like sprinkling salt in the wound of the Bruins’ players and fans, watching Maxim Lapierre taunt Bergeron with a finger to the mouth with about five minutes remaining in the third period must have felt a lot like jumping into the Dead Sea with a thousand open wounds on their body.

Here is a look at Lapierre’s taunt.  We’ll see if the Bruins can respond during Game 3 tonight at the TD Gardens.

If the sight of Erin Hawksworth suffocating her lovely chesticles in the blue and white of the Vancouver Canucks isn’t enough to get you jumping on their bandwagon, their ain’t no changing your ways.

The Canucks will look to take a 2-0 series lead tonight during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals at Rogers Arena.  I know who I’ll be cheering for.  Go Hawksworth!!!…I mean, Go Canucks!!!

I don’t even know where to start with the insults here. Mocking their appearance and poor singing ability seems too easy.  I guess I’ll just end this post with the following question:

Bruins’ President Cam Neely had plenty of great performance on the ice during his 13 year career in the NHL, but perhaps his best performance off the ice was during his cameo appearance in the movie “Dumb and Dumber,” when he played the role of “Seabass,” an intimidating redneck truck driver.

Seabass made his return last night during Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals, but this time it was the”Green Men” playing his role in what may be their best on-screen performance as well.

Of the 30 hits the Canucks players delivered, none were prettier that Dan Hamhuis’ hip check, which sent Bruins forward Milan Lucic somersaulting through the air by the Boston bench four minutes into the second period.  The Bruins’ David Krejci would receive the only penalty on the play for cross-checking Hamhuis, who left the game and did not return.

Hamhuis is listed as day-to-day, but if his injury is serious enough to keep him out for the remainder of the series, he will at least be able to say that he went out with a bang.  I’m sure Lucic will agree.

To most, what transpired along the boards following the buzzer seemed like just another post-whistle playoff hockey scrum, but replays show that it was much more than that, as Alex Burrows decided to take a bit out of Patrice Bergeron’s finger while the two were exchanging face-washes.

Both players received roughing penalties on the play, with Burrows being assessed the extra two minutes.  However, you can expect him to receive more than that, as the league will likely look into the incident and may hand the Canucks forward a suspension if they feel he was guilty of the infraction.  As for Bergeron, he voiced his displeasure over the incident during an interview with CBC’s Elliotte Friedman during the first intermission.
