This is devastating news to the competitive receiver who was excited about showing pro scouts his abilities. Michel Crabtree is expected to miss approximately 10 weeks following surgery which will take us past the evaluation process and into the April 25th draft day.

Chicago Bears’ head coach Lovie Smith feels that the injury will not hurt Crabtree’s draft stock as he is a projected top 5 pick. We feel the same about Crabtree, as great wide receivers are hard to come by and we feel that he has the tools to be a No. 1 receiver for many years.

The injury is separate from the problematic knee injury that troubled him in his final year at Texas Tech. He told reporters that the knee injury was 90-95% heeled and expected it to be fully recovered by late March. Further details about the stress fracture were not revealed and e-mails from Crabtree’s agent Eugene Parker were not returned.

Bills vice president Tim Madrok warned that because of Crabtree’s limited college experience it would make it less likely that a team would be willing to take the risk of offering him lucrative dollars. He also said that although the injury is relatively serious the timing is pretty good as it is still early in the evaluation process. We feel that these comments are a bit irrational and were probably said in order to reduce Crabtree’s value in hopes that he would fall into the hands of the Bills later in the first round.

Bears’ Smith: New foot injury won’t limit Crabtree’s value – [USAToday]
