Total Pro Sports – Buffalo Bills fans are extremely disappointed with their team this season, and now they have a way of showing it to anyone driving up I-190 on the south side of the city. A disgruntled fan, one of many apparently, decided to raise money through an internet drive to rent the billboard space and make the fans’ voices heard to owner Ralph Wilson.

The fan who is behind this whole campaign against the Bills is Ryan Abshagen, an unemployed 18-year-old from New Freedom, Pa. Abshagen claims he is not trying to hurt or insult anybody, he just wants fans’ voices to be heard. Judging by this explanation of what’s going to be on the sign, I’d say he’s doing both:

Starting early Monday and running for a week, the message will be flashed up to 3,000 times per day on a digital billboard overlooking Interstate 190 on the south side of the city, Abshagen said after signing a contract with an advertising company.

The display will feature a message that reads, “It’s time to clean house, RALPH,” referring to Wilson. Next to that will be a checklist of three names: Head coach Dick Jauron, chief college scout Tom Modrak and vice president of pro personnel John Guy.

Most fans would be unhappy with Bills management and front office. Their ineptitude and stinginess have led the Bills to miss the playoffs 9 straight seasons. This year is no better, as the Bills have looked awful starting just 1-4. They even blew an 11-point 4th quarter lead to the Patriots a few weeks ago.

There were also high hopes this season with a decent defense, Trent Edwards seemingly developing, and the acquisition of Terrell Owens. Unfortunately it hasn’t played out that way (T.O. is way better at reporting than he’s been at actually playing), and Bills fans are pissed. Abshagen claims that he will try to raise money to keep the billboard up and that a win against the Jets would not change his mind. One win against a mediocre team won’t erase 9 years of terrible management in fans’ eyes.

Although there are several rookies who would fit the bill as late round steals, we have already discussed such players and will therefore stick to the veterans. What constitutes a sleeper is a guy who may not be high (or even on) some draft boards, but has the potential to develop into a strong contributor on your fantasy football team. And just a side note, I don’t include the likes of DeSean Jackson, Anthony Gonzalez, Ray Rice, etc., as sleepers, even though they are listed as such by NFL.com. We all know these guys will produce, and if you didn’t think so then you may need to do some more studying prior to your draft.

Here is a look at 10 guys you may want to keep your eye on as your draft develops:

Felix Jones, RB, DAL : This is likely the highest rated player we will look at, but we just had to include Felix Jones here. He has not been given the best of rankings among running backs from fantasy experts, but with the very real possibility that he may take over starting duties from Marion Barber in the Cowboys backfield, even a “middle of the pack” ranking does not do this Razorback alum justice.

Tim Hightower, RB, ARI : After drafting Ohio State’s Chris Wells with their first round pick, everyone has already moved him ahead of Hightower on the Cardinals depth chart. That move may be a bit to early. Wells has struggled with some injury problems in camp and if he can’t adapt to life in the NFL quick enough, it will be Hightower’s backfield once again.

Jamaal Charles, RB, KC : The criticism continues to pile up on Chiefs running back Larry Johnson and that is great news for second-year man Jamaal Charles. With an extra year of experience, the Chiefs may find that now is the time to pass the torch to their 2008 third round pick. Hopefully Charles can run with it.

Fred Jackson, RB, BUF : Jackson is not the lead man in Buffalo, but he will be for the beginning of the season with Marshawn Lynch suspended for the first three games. That alone is great news to fantasy owners with Jackson on their roster, and should he perform well he may be in line for a promotion.

Trent Edwards, QB, BUF : We don’t particularly like Trent Edwards, but we love Terrell Owens. Sure, he may have a knack for getting on quarterbacks nerves, but if history tells us anything, it is that his first year on a new team is always a very productive one. If that is the case this season in Buffalo, Edwards will be the beneficiary.

Kyle Orton, QB, DEN : When Denver traded Jay Cutler to Chicago for Kyle Orton, they may have seen something in the former Bears quarterback. While I still don’t see it, what I do see is Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal lining up at the wide receiver positions for the Broncos. That is enough of a reason to look for Orton as a possible backup. You should also keep in mind that he plays for a bad team, and that means a lot of throwing at the end of the game. You just have to love those points during “garbage time”, as some of us like to call it.

Sidney Rice, WR, MIN : He wasn’t much to look at before, but now with Brett Farve slinging the passes in Minnesota, Sidney Rice may finally get the opportunity to break out. Rice will likely get the starting job opposite Bernard Berrian and if Favre is given the green light to throw, you may find Rice to be on the other end of many of those passes.

Torry Holt, WR, JAC : It was not long ago that Holt was one of the premeire fantasy football wideouts. He has fallen since then, but after being let go by the Rams and picked up by the Jaguars, we feel that the 33-year-old may still have something in him. It also doesn’t hurt that he will likely be the number one receiver on Jags team that is thin at that position.

Donnie Avery, WR, STL : It is only fitting that we mention Avery following Holt. With the Rams vet gone, Avery will be expected to step in and take on the number one role. On a Rams team that will likely be throwing a lot near the end of games, that is great news in the fantasy football world.

Joey Galloway, WR, NE : He is the third receiver on the Pats, but that seemed to work out quite nicely for JabarGaffney two years ago when he hauled in five touchdowns. Galloway poses more of a threat than Gaffney did and we feel his numbers could be even better this season if Brady is back in top form.

Catch us next week when we look at the sophomore jinx and other issues concerning the 2009 fantasy football season.

Total Pro Sports – Draft guru Mel Kiper recently came out with an article on Espn saying that he did not know why everyone seems to think that Jay Cutler is this leagues next great QB. Kiper argues that Cutler was over hyped out of college because of his physical tools and is over hyped now for the same reason and compares him to Jeff George, another QB with terrific physical tools and a canon for an arm.

Is this really a fair comparison? Cutler has already been to a Pro Bowl in just his third season (second as the full time starter) and George never made it to the pro bowl after more than a decade in the league, but he also only threw eighteen interceptions once in his career and Cutler, as already done that one too. The question with Cutler, as with any “gunslinger” type of QB, does his ability to make plays that other QBs can’t over shadow the amount of turnovers he produces when trying to make the tough throw and not succeeding?

Last year Cutler’s interception percentage was 2.9, not horrible, but far from great. In fact, that is the same interception percentage put up but Tyler Thigpen of the Chiefs, who had many less weapons around him and was forced to create his own play because of it more than Cutler. That was 2.9 is higher than the 2.3 that Philip Rivers turned in on his way to leading the league in QB rating and touchdowns before getting snubbed out of the Pro Bowl for Cutler who threw for five hundred more yards and seven more interceptions.

In fact, only one QB threw more interceptions than Cutler last year, and almost every other young QB had a lower interception percentage, including but not limited to: Matt Cassel, Aaron Rodgers, Tyler Thigpen, Joe Flacco, Trent Edwards, Matt Ryan, Derek Anderson, JaMarcus Russell, Jason Campbell. But out of that group only two QBs threw more touchdowns than Cutler’s 25 (Rivers, 34, Rodgers, 28).

This is where the future of Cutler becomes a question mark. He can obviously do some great things on the football field, but he if moves teams will he be able to continue to complete 62.5 percent of his passes? Will his touchdown percentage of 4.4 be as high if he is on a team that doesn’t have as good of a receiving core and pass protection as the Broncos did last year (which is most)? And that is why Cutler needs to stop complaining that the new head couch didn’t immediately give the job of franchise savior to him and why he needs to stay and prove that he can be exactly that. Because he will most likely not find a better place to prove Mel Kiper wrong, and if he talks his way out of a good situation he just may have Kiper saying, “I told you so” and using Cutler as an example of why teams shouldn’t draft “gunslinger” QBs for the next few years.
