With a little help from Rajai Davis, Cahill was able to overcome the Kansas City Royals 6-0 after 9 innings of stellar work. Although he only recorded three strikeouts, he managed to give up only 4 walks and 3 hits. He used his sinker ball all night to get out of trouble, recording 15 of his outs on groundballs. Only one batter got as far as second base and no one got further against him. After 109 pitches Cahill was the last man standing. The grounders were key to his success, inducing 4 double plays from the Royals hitters.

While the A’s are an outside shot to make the playoffs in the AL West, they are only 8 games behind the Rangers with two months to play. Crazier things have happened and if their starting pitching stays hot, they have as good a chance as anyone. For now the A’s can be proud that their young hurler Trevor Cahill gets the “Stat Line of the Night”.

Wait — who? Trevor Cahill, Oakland A’s. Still not ringing a bell? No, not the guy that threw the no-hitter and cussed out A-Rod earlier this year. That was Dallas Braden. I’m talking about Trevor Cahill.

Cahill was at it again last night against the lowly Orioles in Baltimore. The Orioles aren’t offering much resistance against anyone this year and Cahill mowed them down. Cahill cruised through his 7 innings of work, allowing just 4 hits and one run. The A’s scored 3 runs in the top of the 2nd and that’s all he needed to earn his 8th victory of the season.

A’s manager Bob Geren is making his pitch to Yanks skipper Joe Girardi to get Cahill on the AL All-Star Team. He just earned his seventh straight win, and he is 7-0 with a 2.12 ERA over his past nine starts. Sounds like an All-Star to me. Trevor Cahill has The Stat Line of the Night for 7/1/10.

Facing a Texas team that is hungry for a win, Cahill dominated opposing batters throughout the game, leaving most who faced him to take the long march back to their dugout. In his seven innings of work, he allowed only a single hit while striking out seven batters on route to a 4-0 victory. It was a dominating performance which helped Cahil earn himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Wednesday, September 16th, 2009.

The A’s have been a huge disappointment this season, sitting at 11 games below the .500 mark, but they have managed to wheel off three wins in a row coming against a team that finds itself with a shot at post-season play At least they had prior to this series. Oakland has little to play for over this final stretch, but with some continued success, they can give fans something to look forward to in 2010.

The A’s righty was on target all night and that meant that the Angels’ bats were not. The end result would be a 2-0 victory for Oakland in a game where Cahill pitched seven strong, allowing only two hits while striking out two in a shutout performance. Those numbers make for an impressive outing against any team, and are enough to earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Thursday, August 27th, 2009.

The story in Oakland this summer has been a disappointing one as expectations of a contender have not nearly been met. Instead, they find themselves well below .500 and at the bottom of the AL West. If they have anything to look forward too, it is Cahill, a 20-year-old with a seemingly bright future.
