Phelps was at the Indiana University Natatorium last night for the U.S. National Championships, and he was back to form, breaking the world record in the 100-meter butterfly.  Strangely enough, that event was the only one he competed in at Beijing without setting a world record (but he did win the gold, obviously).  His time was 50.22, breaking Ian Crocker‘s  previous mark of 50.40.  I wonder if Kellogg’s is regretting their decision to drop Phelps earlier this year.

With the victory, Phelps earned himself a spot at the World Championships in Rome later this month.  As for this victory, I can only hope they were blasting Lil’ Wayne‘s I’m A Go Getta, a tribute to Phelps himself.
