2008/09 San Jose Sharks Season Preview
1. San Jose Sharks
No surprise here. Despite their disappointing playoff run last season the Sharks still have a very talented roster and should challenge Detroit for the Presidents Trophy.
San Jose’s forwards are lead by “Jumbo Joe” Joe Thornton. Milan Michalek, Ryan Clowe, Joe Pavelski and young Devin Setoguchi are all solid options for the top 3 lines. Torrey Mitchell will look to translate his playoff success from last season to this season and Jeremy Roenick of course brings leadership and energy. Both Jonathan Cheechoo and Patrick Marleau will be looking to rebound after sub par seasons last year.
Their defence looks as solid as ever with Christian Ehrhoff, Kyle McLaren, Douglas Murray, Alexei Semenov, Brad Lukowich and the surprise of last year Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Dan Boyle and Rob Blake will look to lead the offensive charge from the back end.
Between the pipes Evgeni Nabokov will look to duplicate the outstanding season he had last year and Brian Boucher is good enough for the small amount of games that he’ll have to play in.
If Marleau and Cheechoo can rebound from last season and their young players like Michalek and Setoguchi continue to improve the sky’s the limit for this team.
