Allen Iverson Is Motown Bound
Total Pro Sports – This is not an error, Allen Iverson is on his way to the Detroit Pistons. Joe Dumars promised his fans during last years Eastern Conference loss that the Pistons would be revamped to compete with the Boston Celtics.
“We just felt it was the right time to change our team,” Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars told The Associated Press. “Iverson gives us a dimension that we haven’t had here and we really think it’s going to help us.”
In a trade with the Denver Nuggets, the Detroit Pistons will send All Star forward Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Nuggets for Allen Iverson.
The Nuggets are hoping that Billups, a native of Denver and past star at the University of Colorado, will be a better fit with All Star forward Carmelo Anthony. Chauncey Billups should mould into the Nuggets style of play and boost them to the elite of Western Conference teams.
The Detroit Pistons are gambling with 33 year old Allen Iverson at $20.8 million. Iverson is in the final year of his contract, and the Pistons will free up $20 million for free agents next season. This should greatly improve on the Pistons scoring, but we all know Iverson is far from his prime. The Pistons will remain atop the Eastern Conference and they hope this will give them the advantage of a natural scorer to compete with the Big 3 of the Boston Celtics.
We believe that the real winners of this deal right now are the Denver Nuggets because Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess are team oriented players, and they will complete the Nuggets as a whole. If Iverson could find his form form his Philly days, this could make the Detroit Pistons a really dangerous team. We’ll just have to wait and see!
