The New L.T.

Darren SprolesTotal Pro Sports-  The latest news out of San Diego is that super star running back Ladainian Tomlinson will miss the rest of the playoffs.  Anyone who watched the game against the Indianapolis Colts can see that the Chargers are still in good shape at the running back position thanks to the emergence of the diminutive Darren Sproles.

Sproles, is the latest San Deigo back to step out of Tomlinson’s shadow and produce big time.  Micheal Turner, also Ladanians backup at one time, signed with the Atlanta Falcons this past off season and had himself a career year.  On Saturday night, Sproles had a career day as he accumulated over 300 yards on offense and special teams combined.  If Sproles can continue his solid play the San Diego Chargers have a shot at going deep into the playoffs.

Tomlinson may be the latest example of a running back who is running on an empty tank.  This is also known as “Shaun Alexander Syndrome”, or more commonly referred to as SAS.  This usually occurs when backs near the age of 30, and because of all of the wear and tear on their bodies they can no longer play at an elite level.

I hope that LT is not suffering from SAS because I have enjoyed watching him play over the years.  L.T. has always been regarded as one of the classiet players in the entire NFL and I would hate to see him retire before he wins a Super Bowl.
