Kentucky’s Jody Meeks Scores Record 54 Points

Jody MeeksTotal Pro Sports – Jody Meeks of the University of Kentucky Wildcats scored a school record 54 points in a 90-72 win over the Tennessee Volunteers yesterday night at Thompson-Boling Arena court.  Jody Meeks numbers from the game were absolutely amazing, 54 points, 14-14 free throws, 10 three pointers, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.

Jody Meeks broke his previous high of 46 points set this past December 20th against Appalachian State.  He breaks a school record that was 39 years old and previously held by Dan Issel.  Issell previously set the record of 53 points playing against the University of Mississippi.

“It means a lot to be in the same sentence as Dan Issel. It’s mind-boggling,” he said. “I was just out there playing to win.” said Jody Meeks

This is the second most points in the SEC since 1989 when Chris Jackson of the LSU Tigers dropped 55 against Mississippi.  Meeks coach Billy Gillespie was short for words after his star players performance last night.

“There have been so many great players — this is the greatest basketball tradition in the world at the collegiate level — and to be able to put your name up there with some of those greats is quite an accomplishment,” Gillispie said.

NBA teams are already drulling over the skill and talent of the Kentucky guard.  A potential star and first round pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, we’ll just have to wait and see.
